NFV Orchestration Framework Addressing SFC Challenges

In the context of NFV and agile service production, virtualization of resources and SFC play a key role in automating network services deployment. designing NFV management and orchestration to provide dynamic SFC as a service is addressed by the proposed NFV orchestration framework. 1 The framework is designed to facilitate the development of NFV architecture components with a focus on SFC orchestration, placement algorithms, required monitoring, and network services stitching. The proposed framework can be used to compare placement algorithms as well as develop and evaluate other service function chaining solutions using a variety of SDN controllers to interact with heterogeneous underlying networking technologies. This article presents the SFC orchestration framework, an implementation, and a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of its components in an experimental environment.

Comparison and analysis of Recursive-RANSAC for Multiple Target Tracking

In both simulated and real experiments, the recursive random sample consensus (R-RANSAC) algorithm has shown promise as an efficient multiple target tracking (MTT) filter. In this paper, we introduce a generalized and modular framework for the R-RANSAC algorithm, analyze the sensitivity of the R-RANSAC tuning parameters, and compare R-RANSAC to five well-known MTT algorithms. We show that R-RANSAC offers a unique balance between low computational complexity, excellent track continuity, and good performance in cluttered environments.

Modeling the Tracking Area Planning Problem Using an Evolutionary Multi-Objective algorithm

When planning the Tracking Areas (TAs) for a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the main concern of mobile operators is to achieve the minimization of both location update cost and paging cost. This paper proposes a new green field TA planning model using multi-objective optimization with constraints, aiming at finding a better trade-off between the two conflicting objectives. This new model integrates the network geographical information, therefore making it more realistic. Considering the impact of constraints, we design an evolutionary multi-objective algorithm based on a population decomposition strategy for the proposed model. Information about infeasible solutions can be fully utilized by population decomposition and thus thealgorithmic efficiency can be greatly improved. A new coding scheme inspired by the famous four-color theorem is specially designed for this multi-objective TA planning model. Computer simulations are conducted and the quality of the new model is confirmed by comparing the results of the multi-objective model with those of a single-objective model. The essential role of the population decomposition strategy has also been identified by comparing the proposed algorithm with the Multi-objective Evolutionary algorithm based on Decomposition ( MOEA/D).

Symmetry can be widely found in natural phenomenon. Regular polygons and polyhedra are the most basic and important symmetrical structures in 2D and 3D Euclidean space. Four-dimensional regular polytopes (4-RPs) are the 4D analogs of regular polyhedra in three dimensions and regular polygons in two dimensions. This article focuses on detecting attacks to power system with the help of cyber-physical co-modeling. The foundational algorithm used to detect attacks is a new dynamic state estimator that can provide real-tie models of the system improving over legacy state estimators and three-phase linear state estimators. Social Influence analysis in Social Networking Big Data: Opportunities and Challenges

Social influence analysis has become one of the most important technologies in modern information and service industries. It will definitely become an essential mechanism to perform complex analysis in social networking big data. It is attracting an increasing amount of research ranging from popular topics extraction to social influence analysis, including analysis and processing of big data, social influence evaluation, influential users identification, and information diffusion modeling. We provide a comprehensive investigation of social influence analysis, and discuss the characteristics of social influence and the architecture of social influence analysis based on social networking big data. The relationship between big data and social influence analysis is also discussed. In addition, research challenges relevant to real-world issues based on social networking big data in social influence analysis are discussed, focusing on research issues such as scalability, data collection, dynamic evolution, causal relationships, network heterogeneity, evaluation metrics, and effective mechanisms. Our goal is to provide a broad research guideline of existing and ongoing efforts via social influence analysis in large-scale social networks, and to help researchers better understand the existing work, and design new algorithms and methods for social influence analysis.

Locating Various Ship License Numbers in the Wild: An Effective Approach

Ship License Numbers (SLNs) play a significant role in intelligent waterway transportation systems. However, there is a dearth of published papers concerning the location of SLNs. In this paper, we present an effective coarse-to-fine approach for locating various SLNs. The proposed method contains four main steps. First, for ships in the wild, the coarse problem of locating SLNs is posed as the detection of specific text groups. In this phase, the proximity and similarity laws of Gestalt Theory are collaboratively used to create text-group hypotheses and detect the meaningful region groups that may contain text in input images. In the second step, four SLN prior features are first summarized. An SLN prior-based fine location process is then conducted to determine the locations of text candidates that actually contain characters and text, i.e., the candidate SLNs. Two connected component classification and merging algorithms are proposed based on height continuity and vertical/horizontal projection analysis. Third, a connected-component scatter-based fake-SLN elimination algorithm is developed. The accurate positions of the SLNs in the input image are obtained in this stage. Finally, partially located SLNs are compensated by a method that characterizes the color and brightness similarity features of characters in the same SLN. The proposed approach is then applied to two collected datasets. The approach is proved to be effective with an overall ship-level location accuracy of 70.38% and a SLN-level F-measure of 0.642 on 950 images with 1374 labeled SLNs.

Violation Learning Differential Evolution-Based hp-Adaptive Pseudospectral Method for Trajectory Optimization of Space Maneuver Vehicle

The sensitivity of the initial guess in terms of optimizer based on an hp-adaptive pseudospectral method for solving a space maneuver vehicle's (SMV) trajectory optimization problem has long been recognized as a difficult problem. Because of the sensitivity with regard to the initial guess, it may cost the solver a large amount of time to do the Newton iteration and get the optimal solution or even the local optimal solution. In this paper, to provide the optimizer a better initial guess and solve the SMV trajectory optimization problem, an initial guess generator using a violation learning differential evolution algorithm is introduced. A new constraint-handling strategy without using penalty function is presented to modify the fitness values so that the performance of each candidate can be generalized. In addition, a learning strategy is designed to add diversity for the population in order to improve the convergency speed and avoid local optima. Several simulation results are conducted by using the combination algorithm;simulation results indicated that using limited computational efforts, the method proposed to generate initial guess can have better performance in terms of convergence ability and convergence speed compared with other approaches. By using the initial guess, the combinational method can also enhance the quality of the solution and reduce the number of Newton iteration and computational time. Therefore, the method is potentially feasible for solving the SMV trajectory optimization problem.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used in both military and civilian applications. However, the cooperation of small and mini drones in a network is capable of further improving the performance and the coverage area of UAVs. There are numerous new challenges to be solved before the widespread introduction of multi-UAV-based heterogeneous flying ad hoc networks (FANET), including the formulation of a stable network structure. Meanwhile, an efficient gateway-selection algorithm and management mechanism is required. However, the stability control of the hierarchical UAV network guarantees the efficient collaboration of the drones. In this article, we begin by surveying the FANET structure and its protocol architecture. Then, a variety of distributed gateway-selection algorithms and cloud-based stability-control mechanisms are addressed, complemented by a range of open challenges.
