Mastermind is code-breaking board game whose principle is to find as fast as possible the guess pattern of code pegs in color and position based on feedback realized by key pegs. The game is targeted at development of logical thinking. The process of the decoding can be realized also using computer. Mathematical analysis, strategy solution, algorithm development of solution and computer simulation program in MS Excel of decoding of the color regardless of the position ordering are shown in the paper.

This research project aims to provide a software framework to test and simulate optimization algorithms for a phase locked fiber laser array. The adaptive phase coherent fiber laser array system is a prominent innovation in the areas of optical communications and directed energy projection [1][2]. In comparison with a monolithic large aperture system, the phase locked array exhibits dramatic improvements in cost, size, and energy density at the center of the beam [2].

A general paradigm for lifting binary morphological algorithms to fuzzy algorithms is employed to construct fuzzy versions of several standard morphological operations. The lifting procedure is based upon an epistemological interpretation of both image and filter fuzzifications. algorithms are discussed for the following image processing tasks: shape detection, edge detection, and filtering union noise.

DLR's imaging spectrometer the Modular Optoelectronic Scanner (MOS) on the Indian remote sensing satellite IRS-P3 has orbiting since March 1996. MOS consists of two spectrometers, one narrow band spectrometer around 760 nm for retrieval of atmospheric parameters and a second one in the VIS/NIR region (13 bands, 400-1010 nm) with an additional line camera at 1,6 pm. The instrument was especially designed for the remote sensing of coastal zone water and the determination and distinction of its constituents. MOS was developed and manufactured at the Institute of Space Sensor Technology (ISST) and launched in an joint effort with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The high spectral resolution of MOS offers the possibility of using the differences in spectral signatures of remote sensing objects for quantitative determination of geophysical parameters. In ISST a linear estimator to derive water constituents and aerosol optical thickness has been developed, exploiting Principal Component Inversion (PCI) of modeled top-of-atmosphere and experimental radiance data sets. The estimator results in sets of weightening coefficients for each measurement band, depending on the geophysical situations (atmosphere-ocean-types, geographic and seasonal conditions etc.). Because of systematic misinterpretation due to nonadaquateness of model and real situation the further development implies the parallel improvement of used water models and recalibration with in-situ data. The paper will present for selected test sites of the European coasts results of algorithm application. It will show the improvement of the estimated water constituents by using regional specific model parameter. Derived maps of chlorophyll like pigments, sediments and aerosol optical thickness are presented.

With the projected global surge in hydrogen demand, driven by increasing applications and the imperative for low-emission hydrogen, the integration of machine learning(ML) across the hydrogen energy value chain is a compelling avenue. This review uniquely focuses on harnessing the synergy between ML and computational modeling(CM) or optimization tools, as well as integrating multiple ML techniques with CM, for the synthesis of diverse hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) catalysts and various hydrogen production processes(HPPs). Furthermore, this review addresses a notable gap in the literature by offering insights, analyzing challenges, and identifying research prospects and opportunities for sustainable hydrogen production. While the literature reflects a promising landscape for ML applications in hydrogen energy domains, transitioning AI-based algorithms from controlled environments to real-world applications poses significant challenges. Hence, this comprehensive review delves into the technical,practical, and ethical considerations associated with the application of ML in HER catalyst development and HPP optimization. Overall, this review provides guidance for unlocking the transformative potential of ML in enhancing prediction efficiency and sustainability in the hydrogen production sector.

Inorganic suspended matter as an indicator of terrestrial influence in Baltic Sea coastal areas - algorithm development and validation, and ecological relevance

Suspended particulate matter (SPM) consists both of an organic (OSPM) and an inorganic fraction (ISPM) and the latter can be used as an indicator for coastal influence in the Baltic Sea. The concentration of SPM can be derived from particle scatter if the specific scattering properties of the respective water body are known. In this paper we show that likewise, ISPM can be derived reliably from remotely sensed particle scatter. An empirical algorithm between particle scatter (AC9 data) and ISPM concentration (measured gravimetrically) was derived from in-water measurements. This regional algorithm was then applied to the iop_bpart level 2 product (i.e. the particle scatter measured at 443 nm) derived from OLCI data on Sentinel-A (S3A) using the C2RCC neural network and validated against an independent data set. The standard error of the derived OLCI match-up data was 10%, and was thus within the goal of the mission requirements of Sentinel-3. The generated S3 composite images from spring and autumn 2018 show that in the Baltic Sea most of the ISPM falls out rather close to the shore, whereas only a very small proportion of ISPM is carried further off-shore. This is also supported by in situ ISPM transects measured in the coastal zone. The ISPM images clearly highlight the areas that are most strongly influenced by terrestrial matter. Differences between the NE Baltic and the SE Baltic proper can be explained by the difference in hydrology and coastal influence as well as bathymetry and wind-wave stirring. The method is of interest for coastal zone management and for assessing the effect of seasonal changes in terrestrial run-off and wind-driven resuspension of sediments. It can also be used to evaluate the effect of climate change which has led to an increase of extreme storm and flooding events that are usually accompanied by increased erosion and run-off from land. Global satellite ocean color instruments provide the scientific community a high-resolution means of studying the marine biosphere. Satellite data product validation and algorithm development activities both require the substantial accumulation of high-quality in-situ observations. The NASA Ocean Biology Processing Group maintains a local repository of in-situ marine bio-optical data, the SeaWiFS Biooptical Archive and Storage System (SeaBASS), to facilitate their ocean color satellite validation analyses. Data were acquired from SeaBASS and used to compile a large set of coincident radiometric observations and phytoplankton pigment concentrations for use in biooptical algorithm development. This new data set, the NASA bio-Optical Marine algorithm Data set (NOMAD), includes over 3400 stations of spectral water-leaving radiances, surface irradiances, and diffuse downwelling attenuation coefficients, encompassing chlorophyll a concentrations ranging from 0.012 to 72.12 mg m(-3). Metadata, such as the date, time, and location of data collection, and ancillary data, including sea surface temperatures and water depths, accompany each record. This paper describes the assembly and evaluation of NOMAD, and further illustrates the broad geophysical range of stations incorporated into NOMAD. (C) 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

AnatomySketch: An Extensible Open-Source Software Platform for Medical Image Analysis algorithm development

The development of medical image analysis algorithm is a complex process including the multiple sub-steps of model training, data visualization, human-computer interaction and graphical user interface (GUI) construction. To accelerate the development process, algorithm developers need a software tool to assist with all the sub-steps so that they can focus on the core function implementation. Especially, for the development of deep learning (DL) algorithms, a software tool supporting training data annotation and GUI construction is highly desired. In this work, we constructed AnatomySketch, an extensible open-source software platform with a friendly GUI and a flexible plugin interface for integrating user-developed algorithm modules. Through the plugin interface, algorithm developers can quickly create a GUI-based software prototype for clinical validation. AnatomySketch supports image annotation using the stylus and multi-touch screen. It also provides efficient tools to facilitate the collaboration between human experts and artificial intelligent (AI) algorithms. We demonstrate four exemplar applications including customized MRI image diagnosis, interactive lung lobe segmentation, human-AI collaborated spine disc segmentation and Annotation-by-iterative-Deep-Learning (AID) for DL model training. Using AnatomySketch, the gap between laboratory prototyping and clinical testing is bridged and the development of MIA algorithms is accelerated.
