Interactive information fault diagnosis technology is a new type of fault diagnosis technology which is integrated by information fusion, artificial intelligence, computer science and other disciplines. It can extract interactive information data of equipment in real time, analyze the characteristics of fault information, and then find the change and trend of equipment operating status. However, there are still some shortcomings in the practical application of this technology, for example, it is difficult to deal with a large number of complex interactive information data, and it is difficult to carry out effective fault diagnosis. Therefore, an intelligent fault diagnosis method with improved grey relational degree is proposed in this paper. This method can effectively extract the interactive information feature data of the equipment, and carry out the correlation analysis of the fault feature data through the grey correlation analysis algorithm, which provides a new idea for the fault diagnosis of the equipment. © 2024 SPIE.

The Microwave Tokamak eXperiment at LLNL was designed to explore the physics of microwave interactions in plasmas using high power millimeter wave sources. We have used 140 GHz power from two sources, a gyrotron capable of ∼ 1MW pulsed, 400 kW CW, and a free electron laser with 100-400 MW pulses of ∼ 10 ns for experiments, with results that we will describe here. Our interests center on non-linear absorption phenomena (FEL) and on heating, transport, and MHD control (FEL and gyrotron) in tokamak plasmas. In the first phase of the FEL experiments we were theoretically in the linear absorption regime, and our plasma transmission experiments gave results consistent with linear theory (with refraction included).

A car assembly plant is a large and complex system. Many thousands of tasks must be performed correctly in appropriate sequence if the plant is to achieve its objective of producing correctly assembled vehicles at the design rate. Consequently the design, construction, and running of such plants presents formidable management problems. The source of many of these problems is the interdependence of the numerous operations that must be carried out in the process of building a car. This paper describes CADAVER (Car Assembly line Dependency and VERification), a prototype system developed at CMI which is intended to assist plant designers and managers to understand and manipulate the interdependency relationships which exist between tasks carried out in the plant.

This paper considers the problem of wave propagation in a nonlinear elastic medium with a quadratic stress-strain relationship. The paper is limited to one-dimensional wave propagation. Under these conditions, the initial value problem is formulated into a hyperbolic system of conservation laws. The Riemann problem due to an initial step function excitation is considered first. Analytical solutions to the Riemann problem are obtained by solving the corresponding eigenvalue problem. In addition, a computer program is developed based on the high-resolution central scheme of Kurganov and Tadmor. The accuracy of this numerical procedure is verified by comparing the numerical results with the exact solutions. The second part of the paper considers several different types of initial excitations in order to determine special characteristics of the wave propagation due to material nonlinearity.

The primary goal of an image algebra is the development of a mathematical environment in which to express the various algorithms employed in image processing. From a practical standpoint, this means that the algorithms should appear as strings in an operational calculus, where each operator can ultimately be expressed as a string composed of some collection of elemental, or "basis," operators and where the action of the string upon a collection of input images is determined by function composition. For instance, rather than defining operations such as convolution and dilation in a pointwise manner, we desire closed-form expressions of these operators in terms of low-level operations that are close to the algebraic structure of the underlying mathematical entities upon which images are modeled. It is precisely such an approach that will yield a natural symbolic language for the expression of image processing algorithms.

Many of the future missions for mobile robots demand multi-robot systems which are capable of operating in large environments for long periods of time. One of the most critical capabilities is the ability to localize - a mobile robot must be able to estimate its own position and to consistently transmit this information to other robots and control sites. Although state-of-the-art GPS is capable of yielding unmatched performance over large areas, it is not applicable in many environments (such as within city streets, under water, indoors, beneath foliage or extra-terrestrial robotic missions) where mobile robots are likely to become commonplace. A widely researched alternative is Simultaneous Localization and Map Building (SLAM): the vehicle constructs a map and, concurrently, estimates its own position. However, most approaches are non-scalable (the storage and computational costs vary quadratically and cubically with the number of beacons in the map) and can only be used with multiple robotic vehicles with a great degree of difficulty. In this paper, we describe the development of a scalable, multiple-vehicle SLAM system. This system, based on the Covariance Intersection algorithm, is scalable - its storage and computational costs are linearly proportional to the number of beacons in the map. Furthermore, it is scalable to multiple robots - each has complete freedom to exchange partial or full map information with any other robot at any other time step. We demonstrate the real-time performance of this system in a scenario of 15,000 beacons.

Microvascular branching geometries determine the efficacy of the transport of nutrients and metabolic products to and from tissues in large-bodied organisms. The general 'plan' is that an artery supplies oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the tissue and a vein removes metabolic products from that tissue. The blood flow to the organ is controlled by the metabolic demand of the organ by a feedback mechanism controlling the arterial lumen diameter. The liver differs from other organs by having two vascular systems delivering its blood - the hepatic artery and the portal vein. The hepatic artery supplies the oxygen needed by liver cells, and the portal vein delivers the molecules absorbed by the gut which need to be processed by the liver tissue for use by other organs in the body. However, how the hepatic artery and portal vein interact is not fully understood in terms of how their relative flows are adjusted, either passively and/or actively, to meet the needs of the liver tissue. This dissertation explores the hypothesis that the hepatic artery's blood mixes with the portal vein's proximal to the hepatic sinusoids (where their mixing is traditionally thought to occur). This is performed utilizing micro-CT to image rat liver lobes injected with a contrast polymer. During the process of exploring this hypothesis, a number of image analysis tools needed to be developed. For one, understanding the level of accuracy by which geometrical measurements can be made by micro-CT is very important because vascular resistance to flow is proportional to the interbranch segment length, as well as inversely proportional to the fourth power of the lumen diameter. Moreover, a single vessel tree contained in a micro-CT image has hundreds, if not thousands of individual interbranch segments and knowledge of the interconnectivity relationship between the segments is important for modeling such properties as pressure distributions and relative blood flow rates. Sensors and computational capability have not reached the point to enable small robots to navigate autonomously in unconstrained outdoor environments at tactically useful speeds. This problem is greatly reduced, however, if a soldier can lead the robot through terrain that he knows it can traverse. An application of this concept is a small "pack-mule" robot that follows a foot soldier over outdoor terrain. The soldier would be responsible to avoid situations beyond the robot's limitations when encountered. Having learned the route, the robot could autonomously retrace the path carrying supplies and munitions. This would greatly reduce the soldier's workload under normal conditions. This paper presents a description of a developmental robot sensor system using low-cost commercial 3D vision and inertial sensors to address this application. The robot moves at fast walking speed and requires only short-range perception to accomplish its task. 3D-feature information is recorded on a composite route map that the robot uses to negotiate its local environment and retrace the path taught by the soldier leader.
