A two-step carry-free negabinary signed-digit(NSD) addition/subtraction algorithm and the fast conversion algorithm from NSD to negabinary in the carry-look-ahead mode have been investigated. All the arithmetic operations can be performed with binary logic. By programming the binary reference bits, addition and subtraction can be realized in parallel with the same binary logic functions. Correspondingly, a compact general-purpose optoelectronic arithmetic-logic array system using electron trapping device is suggested. Various complex logic functions can be performed by programming the illumination of the data arrays without additional temporal latency of the intermediate results. Experimental results will be presented.

Signal reconstruction from its power spectrum is an important technique widely useful in different application fields. However, uniqueness is generally hard to be guaranteed by usual approaches due to nonlinearity of the power spectrum measurement models. In this paper a very general structure of the 1-dimensonal signal with given power spectrum is established and on basis of this formulism some conditions are introduced to guarantee the uniqueness of solution in signal reconstruction. Such conditions are about the information of the interference signals and according to which an algorithm is established for signal construction. The algorithm is simple, efficient and its solution is unique in case of linear-phase signals. Some generalized and more practical conditions are also discussed. © 2024 SPIE.

Adaptive tuned vibration absorbers for attenuation of harmonic vibration may be realized through the use of active materials in absorber designs. For example, the variable elastic modulus of shape memory alloy may be used to incorporate variable springs in an absorber, such that the absorber natural frequency may be on-line tuned. The difficulty then becomes the control of the tuned condition of the absorber. One method for controlling the tuned condition of the absorber is to drive the relative phase between the primary system and the absorber to a desired value. The classical phase-locked loop is one method that might be used to achieve this control goal. An alternative method is to utilize a simple PI controller that uses the relative phase as an error signal. The map between the control input to the active material elements and the resulting relative phase can be modeled as a first-order linear system in series with a static nonlinearity with certain characteristics. This paper presents an analysis of the stability of the phase tracking of an adaptive tuned vibration absorber made of active material. The necessary characteristics for the map between the control signal and the resulting relative phase are presented. A control algorithm is developed that results in asymptotic stability of the system in the presence of an uncertain fixed excitation frequency. Results of implementation of an experimental ATVA on a primary system are presented.

Since the study of the purification and separation of mixed signals has always been one of the core directions of algorithm application, we have analyzed the problem of sound blind source separation of several people or dozens of people, and deeply understood the main algorithms used to solve the blind source separation problem and its improvement methods. Here we want to analyze ICA (Independent Component Analysis) firstly and describe some of the basic knowledge required for ICA separation, then talk about the derivation of the detailed Fast-ICA algorithm and use it to solve the sound source separation problems and the decryption problem of pictures. Finally, based on the direction of convergence velocity, Fast-ICA's improved method is proposed, which is more robust and faster convergence than the original method. © 2024 SPIE.

Phase shifting mask technology will be necessary to produce integrated circuits at the 130 nm node using KrF wavelength steppers. in order to successfully accomplish this goal, it is necessary to detect and repair phase shifting defects that may occur in the manufacture of these reticles. An inspection algorithm has been developed to improve the phase shift defect detection rate of an UV reticle inspection system and is based upon the simultaneous use of the transmitted and reflected light signals. This paper describes the phase defect sensitivity improvement over transmitted light only pattern inspection results and simultaneous transmitted and reflected light based contamination inspection results.

In this paper we describe how a robot detects its state with respect to a goal using only visual information and consequently how it learns to reach that goal navigating in a free environment. The state detection is carried out using a feed-forward neural network, with several multiple input and output units, trained using the quickprop method that is an optimized variant of the back-propagation algorithm. The color images captured by the onboard camera of the robot, are color coded and pre-processed to construct a robust set of inputs to the net, taking account of the trade-off between the dimension of the input set and the lost of information in the image. The simple goal-reaching behavior, finally, is learned using a reinforcement learning algorithm with which the robot associates a proper action to each detected state. To speed up this learning phase an initial state-action mapping is learned in simulation. Starting from this basic knowledge, the real robot will continue to learn the optimal actions for reaching the goal since new unexplored situations can occur in the real environment. The results obtained experimenting this approach on the real robot Nomad200 are described in the paper.

We introduce the Advanced Thin Film Inspection System (ATFIS), a state-of-the-art automatic visual inspection (AVI) system developed by IBM that integrates sophisticated subsystems to inspect advanced multilayer electronic packaging. The image acquisition and 'image segmentation' (material discrimination) is based on a high-radiance illumination, multiband line scan cameras and the Low-level Image Segmentation Architecture (LISA). LISA employs a decision-theoretic approach that classifies pixels according to a decision function defined over a multidimensional 'feature space' (for example, local or global image statistics). The image processing and pattern analysis is based on the Parallel Image Processing System for Inspection (PIPSI) architecture. PIPSI's key features include exploitation of emerging hardware and software technologies; highly programmable to adapt quickly to changing functional requirements; and exploitation of image and operator parallelism, making it highly scalable to meet manufacturing requirements. The pattern analysis algorithm is a synthesis of reference-based comparison and design-rule analysis.
