This paper presents the design of high altitude balloon experiment (HABE) attitude determination and control architecture. Inertial pointing forms the foundation of the HABE tracking system where the precise attitude control system is required to ensure target acquisition. The basic concept involves constructing an inertial line of sight (LOS) vector with target and HABE trajectory measurements and controlling the gimbal attitude to create a parallel LOS. algorithms are developed incorporating the gimbal dynamics and inertial sensor information to optimize the pointing control system's flexibility and accuracy. Coordinate transformations between inertial, sensor, and vehicle frames intensify the complexities in realizing the pointing control system design. Kalman filtering is incorporated, providing trajectory prediction and compensating measurements for extraneous noise and latencies. The complete architecture of the pointing control system is analyzed with both frequency domain models and time domain simulation to characterize performance predictions.

This paper describes a model based vision system in which a commercial 3-D computer graphics system has been used for object modeling and visual clue generation. Given the computer generated model image (i.e., color, depth, ...) a conventional CCD camera image and the corresponding scanned 3-D dense range map of the real scene, the object can be located in it. Our system, called three dimensional model based approach (3D-MBA), uses image pyramid of resolution and prediction-verification processes. To optimize the object recognition scheme, it first forms a set of hypotheses about the objects present in the scene and then proceeds by trying to confirm/reject them. If any part of the object hypothesis is missing, the system uses the object model to predict the shape, location, and orientation of that missing part. This paper focuses on how this is done using newly developed segmentation algorithms extracting `regions of interest' from range images (depth map) of the scene. Illustrative examples of object recognition in simple and complex scenes are presented.

A commercial FT-Raman instrument has been modified for use in on-line chemical composition analysis to control an industrial distillation column. Optical fibers are utilized to allow the placement of the instrument 35 meters from the process environment. Various process probes have been tested and compared. Computational algorithms are used to develop a mathematical model which correlates spectral characteristics to composition. Predictions from the model are presented at three minute intervals to allow statistical process control of a distillation column through operator intervention. Recent application studies and probe modifications are discussed.

With the deepening of the new round of power system reform, market players are more independent in their choice of suppliers, pricing and trading methods, and the characteristics of systematic, diversified and competitive electricity retail market are prominent. Electricity retailers need to be more scientific in their pricing to ensure they are competitive in terms of market share and profits. Therefore, a probabilistic model considering customer demand response and a two-stage robust model considering power demand uncertainty are proposed in this paper. The upper model sets the TOU price with the goal of maximizing the benefit of electricity retailers, while the lower model considers the uncertainty of electric vehicles. The simulation analysis of IEEE33-node power system shows that the two-stage robust model can guide the user's power consumption decision by adjusting the TOU price, balance the uncertainty of electric vehicles, and improve the benefit of electricity sales. © 2024 SPIE.

The methods of path planning for an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) are discussed with regards to algorithm speed and method of world representation. Existing methods of path solution are often too slow for real time execution and must be done off line by the Factory Management System (FMS). By using a linked list world model and a modification of Djikstras algorithm to allow suboptimal results, execution may be sped up by a factor of 10 to 50 with the suboptimal error relative to the optimal path cost being bounded.

In order to improve the response speed, adjustment accuracy and anti-interference performance of the outlet temperature of the heat exchanger of the thermal performance test bench. An algorithm combining fuzzy control, Smith prediction and traditional PID control is proposed, and use Matlab/Simulink to simulate the temperature characteristics and Anti interference characteristics of the system. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional PID and Fuzzy PID algorithms, the response speed of Smith fuzzy PID is 57S and 50S faster 8 than that of traditional PID and Smith PID, respectively, and the overshoot is 18% and 16% less than that of traditional PID and Fuzzy PID respectively. Combined with Smith prediction algorithm, the time lag problem is effectively solved. Therefore, the Smith fuzzy PID control method has a faster response to the outlet temperature control of the heat exchanger, a smaller overshoot, and a faster response to interference signals. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. The color rendering of whole-slide images (WSIs) depends on factors involving the sample, such as tissue type, preparation methods, staining type and staining protocol, as well as equipment, such as the WSI scanner, WSI viewer, and WSI display. Variations in any of these steps may change the color rendering and therefore affect the performance of pathologists in the interpretation of WSIs and the robustness of artificial intelligence algorithms. In the literature, color normalization techniques have been proposed to reduce the color variations. The purpose of this work is to develop an objective approach to characterizing color normalization methods used in digital pathology. We employed color normalization methods to normalize the color rendered by a WSI scanner and then compared the normalized color with the actual scan by that scanner. The normalization errors were evaluated on the pixel level using the CIE color difference ∆E metric that have been shown to correlate with visually perceived differences in human vision. A selected set of 310 patch images of breast tissues scanned by two scanners from the ICPR 2014 MITOS & ATYPIA contest was used. Images from one scanner were color normalized to match the color rendering of the other scanner. Four color normalization methods were compared - Macenko, Reinhard, Vahadane, and StainGAN. Experimental results show that average color differences between two scanners in terms of ∆E were reduced from 16.2 before normalization to the range of [13.7,16.9] after normalization for the Macenko, Reinhard, Vahadane methods, and to 8.3 for the StainGAN method. Apparently the StainGAN method is significantly superior to the other three methods in terms of the ∆E metric. As such, we demonstrated a quantitative method for objectively evaluating color normalization techniques. Remote sensing of atmospheric state parameters (such as temperature and mixing ratio profiles, trace gas column amounts) requires fast and accurate radiative transfer calculations. For the retrieval of a large number of species, a set of micro-windows containing single lines of the target species is generally used. However, spectral signatures of several species like CFCs are often covering large micro-windows and a forward calculation in a wide spectral region must be performed to access the concentration of these species in the atmosphere using remote sensing techniques. If line-by-line calculation of the absorption cross section is used, the calculation time is important and not dedicated to operational analysis of spectral atmospheric measurements. A new retrieval algorithm has been developed at LPMA to determine vertical profiles in such conditions. In order to decrease the calculation time, pre-calculated absorption cross section look-up tables are used, allowing quick generation of absorption cross section without significant loss of accuracy. The simulation of the measurements on wide spectral region is very sensitive to instrumental characteristics like spectral variation of the instrument line shape or accurate calibration of the spectra and the corresponding modelling problems will be carefully examined. A description of the new version of the LPMA atmospheric retrieval algorithm will be presented illustrated by results obtained from balloon solar occultation spectra recorded in the stratosphere. Retrievals of ClONO2 using independent spectroscopic input will be presented and analysis in term of inorganic chlorine burden.

With the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, the logistics system behind it faces various challenges such as complex routes, diverse transportation modes, and unpredictable customs clearance procedures. To address these challenges, this study proposes a design and simulation of an intelligent cross-border e-commerce logistics system based on genetic algorithm technology of artificial intelligence. The proposed system utilizes genetic algorithm techniques to optimize the logistics route planning, transportation mode selection, and customs clearance process. The genetic algorithm is employed to search for the optimal combination of routes, transportation modes, and customs procedures, considering various factors such as cost, time, and reliability. The system takes into account real-time data, including transportation costs, transit times, customs regulations, and historical shipment information, to make informed decisions and continuously improve the logistics efficiency. The simulation of the proposed system is conducted using historical cross-border e-commerce shipment data. The system is evaluated based on performance metrics such as transportation cost, delivery time, and customer satisfaction. The results demonstrate that the intelligent cross-border e-commerce logistics system based on genetic algorithm technology can effectively optimize the logistics process, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction. © 2024 SPIE.

The request of pattern recognition has been frequently brought up by both mask and wafer engineers. Despite of different intentions, pattern recognition is usually the first step of many applications and hence plays a major role to accomplish certain tasks. For the purpose of this work, pattern recognition is defined as searching a specific polygon or a group of particular patterns from a chip layout. Operator scan is truly not an efficient approach of pattern recognition, in particular, for cases with huge design database of advanced semiconductor integrated circuits. Obviously, an automation system of pattern recognition is necessary and benefits the data preparation process. Two categories of pattern recognition are discussed in the present study, "fuzzy search" and "exact match." Each category has its own application, but the searching algorithms could be much different. Details of searching algorithms are given for both categories of pattern recognition. Due to the nature of industrial standard, the scope of the present application is limited to database with GDSII format. Hence, coordinate searching is internally used inside the searching engine.
