Image processing places enormous computational demands on current computer systems and in part motivates the design of fine-grained, massively parallel machines. While several architectures have been proposed for image applications, the approach taken with the Connection Machine has been to use a very large number of simple processors, each with a small amount of local memory, and each capable of communicating in an efficient manner with all other processors. In this report, we give our experience with the Connection Machine on a number of computer vision and vision related problems.

Although search recommendation algorithms have been widely used, they also face a large bottleneck: it is difficult to improve recommendation accuracy and reduce user cost-effectiveness. Leaderboards adopts the popular goods priority recommendation strategy, without considering the user behavior data in the decision-making process, as well as differentiation factors between users make recommendations less effective, which in turn affects the conversion rate. Therefore, this paper proposes a personalized recommendation algorithm framework based on the B2C list, on the one hand, by considering the consumer user's current behavioral data to carry out the development trend of predictive recommendation, on the other hand, by information such as the average price and quantity of each major category of goods purchased by the consumer to categorize users, and then combined with the user's preference for the cross-information on the commodity to carry out the differentiation of commodity recommendation, so as to formulate a popular commodities list. The proposed framework has been analyzed and validated through legal advice website data to ensure its feasibility, but further analysis and research is needed due to the large number of B2C industry categories and the complexity of the data. © 2024 SPIE.

An empirical method to estimate the solar incoming radiation has been improved using AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer)-NOAA14 data in the framework of the ARTIST (Arctic Radiation and Turbulence Interaction Study) experiment. This method, using several bulk formulas, gives an estimation of the incoming solar radiation and results are compared with the surface-based and aircraft-based measurements. The first step of the method is the development of a cloud detection algorithm for the area and for the period of interest. The area is the Arctic Ocean near the Svalbard Islands and the period is from 15 March to 16 April 1998, the transition period from winter to spring and in this particular case from the Polar Night to a period of quite normal insolation. Several bulk formulas, right for the Polar condition, are tested comparing the estimate insolation fluxes with the direct measurements made with a pyranometr mounted aboard the Polar2 aircraft and an other pyranometer at the research base at Ny-Alesund. The comparison could define the best parameterization for the available data.

To fully leverage the complementary advantages of the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithms for various optimization problems, this paper introduces an ABC-DE hybrid evolutionary algorithm based on individual preference for population selection. This method divides the population into subpopulations using a preference-based selection mechanism and employs ABC and DE for diverse subpopulation search strategies. Additionally, it implements a new resource allocation mechanism that increases computational efforts for promising solutions. Comparative analysis on the CEC2014 benchmark suite with five other current ABC and DE improved algorithms confirms that the proposed hybrid evolutionary algorithm effectively enhances convergence speed, accuracy, and robustness. © 2024 SPIE.

Problems such as motion artifact and effects of ambient lights have forced developers to design different signal processing techniques and algorithms to increase the reliability and accuracy of the conventional pulse oximeter device. To evaluate the robustness of these techniques, they are applied either to recorded data or are implemented on chip to be applied to real-time data. Recorded data is the most common method of evaluating however it is not as reliable as real-time measurements. On the other hand, hardware implementation can be both expensive and time consuming. This paper presents a low cost MATLAB-based pulse oximeter that can be used for rapid evaluation of newly developed signal processing techniques and algorithms. Flexibility to apply different signal processing techniques, providing both processed and unprocessed data along with low implementation cost are the important features of this design which makes it ideal for research and development purposes, as well as commercial, hospital and healthcare application.

Data processing of a line profile is one of the most important procedures in a diffraction experiment. The main problem is connected with the presence of K-alpha1 and K-alpha2 wave components in X-ray radiation that produces the principal errors while determining the angular position or width of a diffraction line. By using computer methods in data processing, it is possible to realize effectively the Rachinger method of separation of K-alpha1 and K-alpha2 components. In this paper, computer simulation of diffraction profiles was used to analyze the possibilities of the Rachinger method. A separation criterion based on searching true principal parameters, namely the distance and intensity interrelation between K-alpha1 and K-alpha2 components, was proposed. The separation method is incorporated into the data processing for a portable diffractometer developed by authors from Polytechnical Institute (UERJ). The data processing includes control of an experimental procedure for the case of macro and microstress measurements.

Implicit correlations exist between multi-source geospatial data, the association relation can't be displayed intuitively and retrieved effectively, which leads to the difficulty in data utilization and data sharing. Aimed at this situation, association relation topic maps is constructed using topic map tools Ontopia in this article. Besides, to increase the efficiency of building topic map, the automatic generation algorithm of association relation topic map which based on C# is proposed. The result of experiment shows that the association relation topic map can be constructed correctly by using Ontopia tools and automatic generation algorithm. © 2021 SPIE.

Pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) algorithms for image preprocessing have minimal requirements for interconnects and essentially no memory requirements. They are an effective technique for rapid intensity segmentation and noise smoothing as an initial step in many image processing algorithms. A test array with 32x32 active PCNN pixels has been undergoing initial evaluation. Its performance is discussed and comparison with software versions of the PCNN algorithm is given.

Background Pose estimation has been developed and is frequently used in motion capture and other applications. But it is still unclear "what exactly drives the development of pose estimation". And no summary of the pose estimate milestones has been provided. Objective The purpose of this paper is to examine the evolution of the field of pose estimation, identify significant developments (in terms of time, person, publications, institutions, nations, and their internal connections), and identify significant turning points and milestones. In addition, this paper aims to investigate pose estimation research. Methods This paper conducts analysis of related literatures using the method of literatureomics based on 4873 literatures related to pose estimation that were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Perform co-authorship and keyword co-occurrence analysis and visualization using VOSviewer, and identify emerging keywords and reference literature using CiteSpace. Additionally, analyze milestone events over time by combining them with thematic modeling discussions. Conclusions This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of over 20 years of research on pose estimation, identifying the countries, institutions, authors, journals, and publications involved in this field. Pose estimation has grown in popularity thanks to Deep Learning and COCO datasets, and it will be extensively employed in the surgical sector. © 2024 SPIE.
