The defocus blur in catadioptric omni-directional imaging is caused by large apertures and mirror curvatures. This problem becomes more obviously when introducing high resolution sensors. In order to overcome this drawback, this work proposes a simple modification to a conventional catadioptric system that allows for the recovery of an all-focus omni-directional image. The modification is designed by inserting a patterned occluder within the aperture of the camera lens, creating a coded aperture. Then this work introduces a specific deconvolution method, which can recover an all-focus omni-directional image from photograph(s) taken by the camera with coded aperture. Comparing to the conventional aperture, the coded aperture techniques identify the blur scale easier and more accurate. The recovered sharp image eliminates the defocus blur and shows the efficiency of the algorithm. The obtained sharp image can be combined for various catadioptric applications, including omni-directional monitoring systems, intelligent omni-directional systems and robotics, etc.

Frequent subgraph mining is an important research subject of graph mining. At present, there are many effective frequent subgraph mining algorithms, such as gSpan and FFSM. But these algorithms spend a lot of time solving the subgraph isomorphism or graph isomorphism problem, which affects the efficiency of the algorithm itself. According to the problem, we propose a novel frequent subgraph mining algorithm: FSMA, based on the automorphism mapping. The algorithm generate candidate subgraph through extending edges, and the extension location is determined by the automorphism mapping of subgraph. FSMA does not need to test the subgraph isomorphism or graph isomorphism throughout the process of mining frequent subgraph, so it achieves the time complexity of O(n·2~n) (n is the number of frequent edges in graph dataset).

A Robust Homotopy Continuation Method for Seeking All Real Roots of Unconstrained Systems of Nonlinear Algebraic and Transcendental Equations

A new homotopy developed for finding all real roots to a single nonlinear equation is extended to a system of nonlinear algebraic and transcendental equations written as f{x} = 0 to find all real roots, including those on isolas. To reach roots that may lie on isolas, the functions are squared. This causes all roots to be bifurcation points that are connected to each other through stemming branches. As a result, a new system of homotopy functions, including numerous bifurcation points, is formed as H{x,t} = (x - x(0)) (1 + f(2) - t), where x(0) is the starting point. Because the functions are squared, many systems of equations must be solved to find a starting point on a reduced system of homotopy functions written as H{x,t} = 1 + f(2) - t. Therefore, robustness is achieved at the expense of increased computation time. To improve the efficiency of the algorithm, the Levenberg-Marquardt method is used to find the starting point for the reduced homotopy system by solving a system of nonlinear equations with the degree of freedom equal to one. Then, a continuation method is used to track the paths from the resulting starting point to seek at least one root. Because all roots are bifurcation points, tracking the stemming branches from each subsequent root is the final step. The new algorithm was able to find successfully all the reported roots for 20 test problems that included a variety of algebraic and transcendental terms. In some cases additional roots were obtained.

This paper introduces a new modular approach to robotic grasping that allows for finding a trade off between a simple gripper and more complex human like manipulators. The modular approach to robotic grasping aims to understand human grasping behavior in order to replicate grasping and skilled in-hand movements with an artificial hand using simple, robust, and flexible modules. In this work, the design of modular grasping devices capable of adapting to different requirements and situations is investigated. A novel algorithm that determines effective modular configurations to get efficient grasps of given objects is presented. The resulting modular configurations are able to perform effective grasps that a human would consider "stable". Related simulations were carried out to validate the efficiency of the algorithm. Preliminary results show the versatility of the modular approach in designing grippers.

A multicriteria design technique for linear phase finite impulse response filter, based on multiobjective evolutionary optimization, is presented. In the proposed method, filter coefficients are optimized during the simulated evolution, which is driven to satisfy the given requirements in a frequency domain, as well as application specific constraints on a time domain signal. Multiobjective evolutionary algorithm combines concepts of non-dominated sorting with a selection based on the hypervolume measure. The algorithm efficiency is evaluated for the design of channel filter for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system, where the error vector magnitude of the output signal is incorporated into the filter design process. The obtained results show that the idea of filter optimization with combined frequency and time domain requirements can be a valuable extension to the available filter design methods.

The computational cost of the dynamic equations is very important in real time control applications of industrial robot manipulators. Basically, the computational cost depends on the joint properties, the method used for deriving the dynamic equations and the algorithm efficiency. In this study, the dynamic equations for the sixteen three and six degrees of freedom fundamental robot configurations were derived using Newton-Euler (N-E), Lagrange-Euler (L-E) and Hamiltonian (H) methods in symbolic form. The computational costs of these dynamic equations for both three and six degrees of freedom manipulators are obtained. Some comparisons considering the joint properties, the method and the workspace geometries of the manipulators are performed and some important conclusions are summarized.

We present a fast automatic text detection algorithm devised for a mobile augmented reality (AR) translation system on a mobile phone. In this application, scene text must be detected, recognized, and translated into a desired language, and then the translation is displayed overlaid properly on the real-world scene. In order to offer a fast automatic text detector, we focused our initial search to find a single letter. Detecting one letter provides useful information that is processed with efficient rules to quickly find the reminder of a word. This approach allows for detecting all the contiguous text regions in an image quickly. We also present a method that exploits the redundancy of the information contained in the video stream to remove false alarms. Our experimental results quantify the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm and show the strengths and weaknesses of the method as well as its speed (about 160 ms on a recent generation smartphone, not optimized). The algorithm is well suited for real-time, real-world applications.

Wang et al have designed a new fuzzy signature scheme based on the discrete logarithm. This scheme has proposed a signature protocol in which the signature can be fairly exchanged between signers. This paper has put forward an improved concurrent signature scheme, which can reduce the numbers of implementing positive protocols and negative protocols when exchange and open the signatures and improve the efficiency of the algorithm. At the same time, the correctness, the non-forgeability and the fairness of the signature can be increased.

In this paper, we consider nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) of diffusion/advection type underlying most problems in image analysis. As case study, we address the segmentation of medical structures. We perform a comparative study of numerical algorithms arising from using the semi-implicit and the fully implicit discretization schemes. Comparison criteria take into account both the accuracy and the efficiency of the algorithms. As measure of accuracy, we consider the Hausdorff distance and the residuals of numerical solvers, while asmeasure of efficiency we consider convergence history, execution time, speedup, and parallel efficiency. This analysis is carried out in a multicore-based parallel computing environment.

In this paper we propose new nonparametric Renyi, Tsallis, and L_2 divergence estimators and demonstrate their applicability to mutual information estimation and independent subspace analysis. Given two independent and identically distributed samples, a "naive" divergence estimation approach would simply estimate the underlying densities, and plug these densities into the corresponding integral formulae. In contrast, our estimators avoid the need to consistently estimate these densities, and still they can lead to consistent estimations. Numerical experiments illustrate the efficiency of the algorithms.
