Exact Event-Driven Implementation for Recurrent Networks of Stochastic Perfect Integrate-and-Fire Neurons

In vivo cortical recording reveals that indirectly driven neural assemblies can produce reliable and temporally precise spiking patterns in response to stereotyped stimulation. This suggests that despite being fundamentally noisy, the collective activity of neurons conveys information through temporal coding. Stochastic integrate-and-fire models delineate a natural theoretical framework to study the interplay of intrinsic neural noise and spike timing precision. However, there are inherent difficulties in simulating their networks' dynamics in silico with standard numerical discretization schemes. Indeed, the well-posedness of the evolution of such networks requires temporally ordering every neuronal interaction, whereas the order of interactions is highly sensitive to the random variability of spiking times. Here, we answer these issues for perfect stochastic integrate-and-fire neurons by designing an exact event-driven algorithm for the simulation of recurrent networks, with delayed Dirac-like interactions. In addition to being exact from the mathematical standpoint, our proposed method is highly efficient numerically. We envision that our algorithm is especially indicated for studying the emergence of polychronized motifs in networks evolving under spike-timing-dependent plasticity with intrinsic noise.

A new non-local algorithm for the simulation of trees on the lattice Z(d) is proposed. We study the implementation and the properties of the algorithm, and show that it is decisively better than an algorithm which performs only local moves. We use the new algorithm to investigate the properties of lattice trees in two, three, four, eight and nine dimensions.

Based on the one-dimensional Sine map and the two-dimensional Henon map, a new two-dimensional Sine-Henon alteration model (2D-SHAM) is hereby proposed. Basic dynamic characteristics of 2D-SHAM are studied through the following aspects: equilibria, Jacobin eigenvalues, trajectory, bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponents and sensitivity dependence test. The complexity of 2D-SHAM is investigated using Sample Entropy algorithm. simulation results show that 2D-SHAM is overall hyperchaotic with the high complexity, and high sensitivity to its initial values and control parameters. To investigate its performance in terms of security, a new 2D-SHAM-based image encryption algorithm (SHAM-IEA) is also proposed. In this algorithm, the essential requirements of confusion and diffusion are accomplished, and the stochastic 2D-SHAM is used to enhance the security of encrypted image. The stochastic 2D-SHAM generates random values, hence SHAM-IEA can produce different encrypted images even with the same secret key. Experimental results and security analysis show that SHAM-IEA has strong capability to withstand statistical analysis, differential attack, chosen-plaintext and chosen-ciphertext attacks.

Autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) has important significance for understanding, researching and developing the ocean. The research of path planning plays an important role in the safety of AUV and the improvement of work efficiency. Aiming at the complex underwater environment, irregular obstacles and planning difficulties, this paper proposes a dimension reduction path planning method suitable for three-dimensional space path planning. The space is expressed by the combination of horizontal stratification and longitudinal cutting, which simplifies the environmental model and improves the dimensionality disaster of path planning and long planning time. Furthermore, the inverse pruning and node reconstruction methods are used to further optimize the shortening path, which improves the practical value of the path. And the algorithm is fast, which reduces the energy consumption during the AUV travel. The simulation results show that the design path planning method is simple and effective, and it is suitable for complex underwater environment.

Learning activities are increasingly performed in online learning environments. Automatic assessment is used in many systems to give students immediate and personalized feedback allowing them to solve exercises regardless of time and place. However, this creates new challenges for students because they are required to independently regulate their own learning. Because of the lack of direct guidance, it is easy for students to resort to bad study habits. In this paper, we investigate what kinds of harmful study habits can be observed in online learning environments that utilize automatic assessment. We study data from two computer science courses with programming exercises and algorithm simulation exercises. The results are in line with earlier findings that starting to study near the deadline is linked to inferior performance. This is also observed in a within-subject comparison which suggests that the relationship is causal. Furthermore, signs of trial-and-error problem solving are observed in some students and they are also correlated with inferior performance in the exercises and the exam.

In this article, we propose a service-driven architecture for wireless networks that incorporates the concept of multi-domain collaboration. This architecture inherits the physical infrastructure from existing cellular systems, while introducing a CS that configures the overlapped variable logical structure of the system according to service properties through a collaboration algorithm. simulation results demonstrate that out framework can increase the system throughput up to 75 % comparing with traditional cellular systems. Moreover, even if our theoretical analysis and simulations on the MDC architecture are based on single cell scenarios, they can also be applied to multi-cell cases by designing more sophisticated system architectures and algorithms following the same principles.

This work presents a self-consistent algorithm for the simulation of responsivity and detectivity of InGaAs/GaAs strained multi-period Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors. This algorithm takes into account the fundamental mechanisms involved in the InGaAs/GaAs detector detection process. We have calculated a practical InGaAs/GaAs detector by using this algorithm. The obtained results were in good agreement with the experiments at low temperature below 3.5 V.

Nowadays, the environments surrounding modern battlefield are becoming increasingly complicated, since the threats are not only from the ground but also from the sky. UAV with reconnaissance mission will take more risk when flying along an improper planned path, so path planning of UAV in complex 3-D environments is very significant and challenging. Aimed at the problem, this paper proposes a novel optimal path planning method for UAV based on the flight space partitioning, Dijkstra algorithm and potential field theory. Specifically, under the cases that the locations of threats are assumed to be known and the whole flight space is partitioned into a number of cells and each cell has a safest node. Then, a 3-D network is formed by connecting the nodes of adjacent cells and a shortest suboptimal path is marked on the network with Dijkstra algorithm. Finally, the optimal path is obtained with artificial potential field method. To verify the proposed algorithm, simulation results in two cases are shown.

A novel infrared mono-station passive location algorithm for a maneuvering target is presented based on infrared imaging, series images processing and three dimensional movement analysis. The algorithm results in the relative distance between the maneuvering target and the measurement station by using the measured information of infrared imaging target. It accurately reflects the actual situation of complex relative movement between the mobile target and the mobile measurement platform, effectively overcomes the bad influence of the gesture change in the target itself and the pseudo-gesture change in the target caused by the relative movement between the mobile measurement platform and the mobile target on ranging precision, objectively reflects the various actual states on the complex relative movement between the mobile measurement platform and the mobile target. It is applicable to such relative motion models between the maneuvering target and the maneuvering measurement station as the invariable velocity, invariable acceleration and variable acceleration and so on with high location precision, small cubage and great mobility. The correctness and validity of the algorithm are illustrated by both the computer digital simulation and the semi-practicality visible light imaging simulation. Under the conditions of satisfying the measurement precision requirements on the image and angle parameters of the target, the relative error of measuring distance is not larger than 5%. At the same time, the algorithm is also suitable for visible light mono-station passive location.
