In this paper, we consider a general bi-directional relay network with two sources and N relays when neither the source nodes nor the relays know the channel state information (CSI). A bi-directional relay selection scheme is proposed using differential analog network coding (BRS-DANC), and a simple linear detector is given to recover the received signals. In the proposed scheme, we provide an optimal and a sub-optimal methods to select the relay node from a single source by minimizing the average symbol error rate (SER). The performance of the proposed BRS-DANC scheme is analyzed, and a simple asymptotic SER expression is derived. It is shown that the SER performance of the proposed differential scheme is about 3 dB away from that of the coherent detection scheme.

In this paper, we develop efficient power allocation schemes for bidirectional relaying when analog network coding is used. As compared to unidirectional relaying, analog network coding based bidirectional relaying reduces number of transmissions in the network and increases overall system rate. First, we study optimal power allocation for a three node network where only one relay node is used. Then we propose an efficient power allocation strategy for a general cooperative network architecture where multiple relays are employed to assist the user nodes. Results show significant performance improvement in terms of overall system rate, with increase in the number of relays in the network.

This paper discusses different modulation schemes for the decoding of signals in analog network coding (ANC). analog network coding is a concept in which interference of the signals is considered as advantage rather than disadvantage. Router interferes the signal transmitted from two nodes that want communication between them. At the receiving end the node subtracts its own signal to decode the signal transmitted by the sender. Signal decoding at the receiving end is not a simple problem. Signal has to traverse through the channel to reach the receiver. Channel imparts many distortions in the signal in the form of magnitude and phase. Retrieval of the correct information of the signal in terms of its amplitude and phase is very important. The decoding of the signal at the receiving end depends upon number of factors and one of them is the modulation scheme used. In this paper we use different modulation schemes such as ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying), FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) and MSK (Minimum Shift Keying). We discuss how these modulation schemes affect the analog network coding process. Models are proposed for the retrieval of the signals. Simulations are performed to prove the results. Matlab/Simulink is used as a tool for simulations.

In underwater acoustic networks, the objective that researchers are pursuing is establishing a network with high reliability, high throughput and low energy consumption. network coding can enhance reliability and throughput of network. Moreover, the throughput of network will be significantly improved by analog network coding. Accordingly, with higher reliability and higher throughput, the energy consumption will be lower. In this paper, the linear network coding and analog network coding are combined creatively. Besides, a SNR estimation algorithm is used to choose packets instead of choosing packets randomly for decoding. Afterwards, for taking advantage of the redundant packets better, packets are refreshed via bit-by-bit comparison. At last, we present nmuerical experiments to evaluate the performance of this scheme.

In this paper, we propose a joint transmit/receive frequency-domain equalization (FDE) based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) analog network coding (ANC) in single-carrier (SC) bi-directional relay communications. In the proposed scheme, the relay station (RS) equipped with multiple antennas carries out antenna diversity and one-tap transmit FDE, and the base station (BS) and mobile terminal (MT) receivers, both equipped with single antenna, carry out one-tap receive FDE only. The FDE weights at RS, BS and MT are jointly optimized so as to minimize the end-to-end mean square error (MSE). We evaluate, by computer simulations, the bit error rate (BER) performance when using the proposed scheme, and discuss how the transmit FDE at RS operates and affects the BER performance.

In this paper, we propose to improve a Cooperative Automatic Repeat reQuest (C-ARQ) scheme through the optimization of the distribution of the average relay energy cost in a two sources one destination wireless system. We consider a BPSK modulated transmission over Rayleigh fading channels. We propose to use specific relay and destination treatment for different possible cases: both received packets are error free, only one received packet is detected erroneous or both received packets are detected erroneous at the destination. We derive semi-analytical bounds of the throughput and the average relay energy. We find the optimal relay energy distribution which maximizes the throughput by using dichotomy search. Numerical results confirm the accuracy of the derived closed form expressions and show the throughput improvement due to the relay energy optimization compared to the conventional cooperative ARQ scheme.

In this paper, we propose an iterative receiver for cooperative wireless systems. We consider wireless transmissions over Rayleigh fading channels between two sources nodes, one relay node and one destination node. The relay node uses analog network coding (ANC) scheme to help the communication between the sources and the destination. At the receiver, we propose a decoding scheme based on successive interference cancelation and iterative treatment applied to both direct received signals and relayed signal. Simulation results show that the proposed receiver performance approaches in few iterations the perlormance of the corresponding system in which the relay is a genie-aided node that estimates perfectly sources sequences. Also, our receiver performs, in case of different direct channels powers, more than classical iterative receiver not using an interference canceller.

analog network coding (ANC) is a hot topic in recent pioneer researches. Two end-sources can exchange information with the help of a relay by making use of the additive nature of electro-magnetic waves in the wireless two-way relay channel (TWRC). The relay amplify and forward the XORed signal to both of the two sources. In this paper, we assume that each source is equipped with a single antenna and the relay is equipped with multiple antennas. Neither the sources nor the relay can acquire the channel state information (CSI). We propose a novel modulation scheme based on differential modulation. The receivers in TWRC can eliminate the self-interference when their transmitting signals are independent. Then we derive the maximum likelihood (ML) detector for the ANC system with differential modulation signal. We compare the system bit error rate (BER) performance with coherent detection and perfect CSI. Theoretical and simulated results show that even without the aid of CSI, the performance of the proposed system is approximately 1-2dB away from the optimal coherent detection scheme. Differential distributed space-time coding (DSTC) techniques using several transmission protocols have recently been proposed to overcome the overhead involved with the acquisition of channel state information (CSI) required for coherent processing. In this paper, a novel amplify-and- forward differential DSTC technique for two-way wireless relay networks (TWRNs) is proposed, that uses the concept of analog network coding and which does not require CSI at any node to decode the information symbols. In our transmission scheme, the relays do not waste power to transmit known information. This is achieved by combining the symbol vectors of both terminals at the relays into a single symbol vector without decoding the information symbols. Furthermore, in our scheme, the direct link between the communicating terminals can be easily incorporated to further improve the diversity gain. Simulations show a substantially improved performance in terms of bit error rate (BER) of the proposed technique as compared to the known techniques.

Vehicular networks are a promising field in wireless networks enabling connection vehicles among themselves or between a vehicle and an infrastructure. These networks aim to offer several potential applications ranging from road safety applications and driver assistance to infotainment. However, these networks have limited coverage and capacity. Among the options that may help overcome these limitations, we can quote cooperative communications and analog network coding (ANC). The idea of this paper is to combine these two concepts in order to improve the vehicular network connectivity and capacity. The proposed solution is divided into three stages. The first stage aims at identifying the coding and relaying opportunities. The second stage uses a distributed scheme to select the Best Vehicular Relay among potential candidates when relaying is required, while the last stage performs our joint relaying and coding strategy on the received signals. In order to validate our approach, numerical analysis is performed to evaluate the performances in terms of raw Bit Error Rate (BER) and throughput. This confirmed our expectation showing that cooperative relaying achieves better performance than the direct transmission in terms of raw BER but decreases the throughput. However, by deploying analog network coding on the Best Vehicular Relay, the throughput is improved considerably at the price of a slight deterioration of the raw BER.
