A Mobile Augmented Reality Framework Based on Reusable Components

In recent years, Augmented Reality (AR) has experienced a great growth in the interest of researchers and general public. Commercial applications such as AR browsers, games, and marketing campaigns are gradually becoming more available;however, the need for a flexible authoring solution still remains. The aim of this paper is to present a novel framework to create marker based augmented reality applications for mobile devices. The framework is composed of five main subsystems: a) presentation: with a game engine as the core component, b) tracking: which performs all the computer vision algorithms, c) interaction: composed of a custom visual editor which processes all the inputs to the framework, d) world model: used to store and provide access to the digital representation of the world, and e) context: used to provide status information of the entire system. All the subsystems were used to provide for users a comprehensive way to develop and share prefabricated objects that allow reusability across applications. A particular case, of an interactive "pARabola plotting" application, is presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the framework. The application was tested in four mobile devices running android OS. The experimental results demonstrate the ability of the framework to create usable mobile AR applications, observing better visual and interaction results on the higher quality mobile devices.

DROIT: Dynamic Alternation of Dual-Level Tainting for Malware Analysis

Taint analysis for android malware has received much attention in recent research. Existing taint techniques operate either at Java object level or at deeper instruction level. Object-level tracking is suitable for malware written in Java byte-code, but not for native ones. Instruction-level tracking captures the finest data flow. However, it leads to obscure semantic reconstruction and low performance. In this paper, we present DROIT, a taint tracker which dynamically alternates between object-level and instruction-level tracking on demands. DROIT tracks data flow at Java object level in general. When its Dalvik VM exits the byte-code execution, DROIT automatically switches to instruction-level tracking, and vice versa. The trigger-based DROIT can alternate between the two levels in an efficient manner, and can provide dual-level whole image of the data flow, rather than fragments. Tracking at the dual levels also eases the semantic reconstruction significantly. The experiment with android information-stealing trojans showed that DROIT can handle Java-based malware, those composed in native code, and those alternating between the two levels (e.g., DroidKungFu), respectively.

MobiGUITAR Automated Model-Based Testing of Mobile Apps

As mobile devices become increasingly smarter and more powerful, so too must the engineering of their software. User-interface-driven system testing of these devices is gaining popularity, with each vendor releasing some automation tool. However, these tools are inappropriate for amateur programmers, an increasing portion of app developers. MobiGUITAR (Mobile GUI Testing Framework) provides automated GUI-driven testing of android apps. It's based on observation, extraction, and abstraction of GUI widgets' run-time state. The abstraction is a scalable state machine model that, together with test coverage criteria, provides a way to automatically generate test cases. When applied to four open-source android apps, MobiGUITAR automatically generated and executed 7,711 test cases and reported 10 new bugs. Some bugs were android-specific, stemming from the event- and activity-driven nature of android.

The users of modern buildings require more and more comfort and for fulfilling habitation requirements they expect more achievements. Air-conditioning, refrigeration, lighting system, security and camera system, telecommunication system and computer network have been added beside the traditional heating and ventilation. Concurrently with the requirements of the users, the demands of the operation economy of these kinds of objects with multifunctional technology grow, too. The paper describes a creation design of automated control and remote management of irrigation system by the use of low-cost device Arduino and operating system android. The irrigation system consists of several modules which can be divided into three parts: control part, regulatory part and server part. The design brings comfort, automation and mostly energy savings for intelligent systems.

Now a days the multitouch interfaces interactions with computing devices are changing rapidly. The common problems related to users for user authentication are selecting weak textual passwords or forgetting password. Hence we used biometric gesture based multitouch authentication system. In a biometric authentication system, the user gesture is given to the system. This system has enrollment and verification stage. In Enrollment stage, user's gestures are registered in the system by acquiring and storing biometric templates corresponding to the users. In verification stage, the users gestures is compared with the stored biometric users gesture in template, where all touch points are correctly labeled and ordered consistently and thus, system authenticate a user. The verification process starts with the user multi-touch gestures, which are mapped with x, y coordinates, time-stamps and labels. The 5 touch points from 5 fingertips are serially stored by the device. When all 5 touch point get correctly labeled, the fingertip points are normalized to length, location and orientation. The Dynamic Time Warping matching algorithm is used to compute the distance between each of the normalized stored user gestures and current user gesture. Finally, a dissimilarity score is calculated from the distances obtained and a decision is then made by comparing the dissimilarity score with a threshold to authenticate a user. Multitouch gesture based authentication system is implemented by using android OS in Samsung tablet. We created android app with login, user name, register three gestures trial as input and then gesture verification. With the euclidean or jaccard distance, only one distance is measured at a time with 80% accuracy.

The purpose of the development of the Thai Buddhist lifestyles application based on the android operating system is to develop a database system for the lifestyle of Thai Buddhist to serve as a channel for disseminating information about Buddhist ceremony so that most people in the country can appreciate the difference of the two Thai Buddhist dominations. The sources of information were obtained by the student at The Education Center of Buddhist on Sunday of Rajadhiwaswihara temple (Dhammayut domination) and from senior monks while the developer had undergone the ordination at Nimanorradi temple (MahaNikaya domination). It can be concluded that when a new media technologies was made available to the people, it can stir great interests and help gain easy access to Religions information since the system can be adapted to users easily due to the fact that the data is stored and available on the users devices. This is also beneficial to the students who used the program and the youth can use such technology to reach the creativity and benefits. The results were satisfactory as follows: Means for teachers and students were 4.05 and 3.97 respectively, and standard deviation for specialists and users were 0.563 and 0.644 respectively.

Evidences collected from smartphones users show a growing desire of personalization offered by services for mobile devices. However, the need to accurately identify users' contexts has important implications for user's privacy and it increases the amount of trust, which users are requested to have in the service providers. In this paper, we introduce a model that describes the role of personalization and control in users' assessment of cost and benefits associated to the disclosure of private information. We present an instantiation of such model, a context-aware application for smartphones based on the android operating system, in which users' private information are protected. Focus group interviews were conducted to examine users' privacy concerns before and after having used our application. Obtained results confirm the utility of our artifact and provide support to our theoretical model, which extends previous literature on privacy calculus and user's acceptance of context-aware technology.
