Missing persons has become one of the most serious issues in many countries around the world. It has been a fact to worry not only for those persons who lost their relatives but also for the law and order officials to search them and find them. So with this kind of problem statement in mind we have created a person identification and spotting system using the Internet-of-Things concept. Our system uses android mobile phone cameras and a server system coded with LBPH Facial recognition along with email sending functions. All these components are interconnected through Amazon AWS cloud in an Internet-of-Things fashion. This is a unique, novel, scalable and better approach, when compared to the previous works because instead of focusing on face detection and recognition in just a single device, our system involves interconnection of face detecting cameras with the face recognition and verification system which is running elsewhere. Also, our system includes the automatic email sending component interconnected with the identification system through cloud which has not been performed in any of the previous works. Experiments were conducted in real-time with real subjects at various locations around the university campus and the system worked very well where the average timings measured from the detection of face till notifying the user with the spotted location was within the range of 30 seconds to 1 minute and 40 seconds with an average value of accuracy ranging from 92 to 96 percent.

The most common operating system for smart phones, which are among the most common forms of computers today, is the android operating system. The android applications are executed on Dalvik Virtual Machines (DVMs) which are register-based, rather than stack-based such as Java Virtual Machines (JVMs). The differences between DVMs and JVMs make tools of programm analysis of JVMs are not directly applicable to DVMs. Operational semantics is a main tool to study, verify, and analyze android applications. This paper presents an accurate operational semantics androidS for android programming. The set of Dalvik instruction considered in the semantics is designed carefully to capture main functionalities of android programming and to enable the use of semantics to evaluate method of Application analysis. The semantics also simulates the interaction between users and applications during application executions. The semantics also respects constrains of state changes imposed by the life cycle of android applications.

The safety of intelligent vehicles has always been the focus of the society. While pursuing driving pleasure, drivers pay more attention to whether intelligent vehicles can bring a safe and well-controlled road experience. Safety depends on drivers' driving habits, but a well-equipped transportation system and the auxiliary equipment in intelligent vehicles cannot be ignored. The interaction between traditional vehicles and signal lights mainly depends on the drivers' eyes, but the influence of front large truck, signal lamp malfunction and other external factors may cause some interference under the process of the information exchange. Human observation is real-time but in-vehicle traffic lights are ahead of the observation, making drivers decide to pass the intersection or slow down. We proposed an in-vehicle signal reveal system to assist drivers at intersections based on Local Area Network (LAN). Firstly, android smart phones are used to simulate the process of vehicle (client) interaction with signal lights (terminal). When the vehicle arrives at the middle of two intersections, it will proactively transmit its position information to the traffic lights. The traffic lights will send the current traffic signal operating information to the vehicle through processing the vehicle position, and finally implement in-vehicle traffic lights. The advance warning of the signal lights in the car can effectively shorten the reaction time of drivers, for improving driving attention and avoiding fatigue driving. Meanwhile, the proposed promising complement with autonomous environment perception can significantly promote the development of assisted driving as well as automatic driving technologies. Even through V2V communication, traffic lights on the network can be formed at intersections where the display of traffic lights are blocked or damaged, for improving the safety of driving as well as reducing traffic disturbance.

Heterogeneous data sources management is a big challenge for complex projects, especially in the situation of sensor net work. The incompatibility of different data sources makes it complicated for a project to modify databases in use or adapt to new sensors. In this paper, we propose a middleware solution to address the problem. The middleware uses an abstract class to shield the differences among heterogeneous data sources and creates a data source service wrapper for each. Both permanent data info and real-time data flows should pass through the middleware during communication of data sources and application. And by implementing a corresponding data source service wrapper, it's very convenient to add a new data source. At the same time, the middleware uses XML to accomplish data mapping and transmission, so as to solve the incompatibility of data sources schema and ensure platform independence. We deployed the middleware to our E-Health project. Our experience has proved the flexibility and extensibility of the middleware.

We wanted to cover mobile computing in our curriculum without incurring the costs of adding a new course to the curriculum or hiring a new instructor to the faculty roster. We did so through collateral learning, by incorporating mobile computing into the projects of two existing upper-level Computer Science courses: Organization of programming Languages and Artificial Intelligence. We recount our experience using collateral learning of mobile computing over the last four years: motivation, logistics, course-specific details, reception by students, results of course evaluations, challenges faced and solutions devised. Our experience affirms that collateral learning is an excellent option for incorporating emerging topics such as drone programming, cybersecurity and parallel computing into the curriculum at resource-strapped Computer Science departments.

The use of smart phones and similar devices are increasing day by day and mobile devices are moving towards becoming the mainstream computing hardware. In parallel, the number of mobile applications is increasing exponentially. Besides the many advantages of being mobile, in these applications limited battery power is a fundamental constraint. With "Energy Aware" programming techniques, the new generation of software developers are willing to spread the battery life time as long as possible. In this study, trends of energy consumption are examined for various types of mobile software in terms of software component. For this purpose, The energy profile PowerTutor software is used and without the use of additional hardware, details of energy consumption figures are reported. For selected types of mobile software, energy consumption ratio of GSM radio, processor, screen, sound system and GPS components is examined and a general characterization is sought about these applications.
