The past two decades have witnessed tremendous research activities in optimization methods for communication networks. One important problem in communication networks is the Weighted Ring Arc-Loading Problem (combinatorial optimization NP-complete problem). This problem arises in engineering and planning of the Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) systems. Specifically, for a given set of non-split and uni-directional point-to-point demands (weights), the objective is to find the routing for each demand (i.e., assignment of the demand to either clockwise or counter-clockwise ring) so that the maximum arc load is minimised. In this paper, we propose a Hybrid ant colony optimization algorithm to solve this problem. We compare our results with the results obtained by the standard Genetic algorithm and Particle Swarm optimization, used in literature.

This paper studies container loading optimization problem. Edge detection as an important detection algorithm can effectively extract image information, reduce calculation complexity and which is the basis of image various subsequent proceedings. In this paper, ant colony optimization algorithm was adopted to detect classical image and SAR oil film image edges. Classical cameraman image and two Mexico gulf oil spill images were chosen to extract edges by setting reasonable parameters and adaptive thresholds, and finally accurate oil image edge detection was implemented. Experimental results show that, ant colony optimization algorithm can effectively extract the outline of SAR oil film target texture, maintain the continuity of oil film, show ideal speckle inhibition capacity, ensure the accuracy of detection, which has wide application prospect in SAR image edge detection.

Minutiae detection is a crucial process in an automatic fingerprint identification system. Most fingerprint comparison algorithms are based on minutiae matching. However, the local orientation changes very rapidly in the singular point area. It is difficult to locate the singular point precisely. The ant colony optimization algorithm (ACOA) is extensively used in multi-objective and optimal problems. But the ACOA is still not used in fingerprint image processing. In this paper, we suggest an improved ant colony optimization algorithm to extract the upper core point of fingerprints. Finally, the proposed algorithms are tested with some fingerprint images and show significant improvement in the experiments.

Cloud computing environment for the efficient resources allocation is an important issue in the field of cloud computing. The resources in Cloud computing application platform are distributed widely and with great diversity. User demands of real-time dynamic change are very difficult to predict accurately. The heuristic ant colony algorithm could be used to solve this kind of problems, but the algorithm has slow convergence speed and parameter selection problems. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes an optimized ant colony algorithm based on particle swarm to solve cloud computing environment resources allocation problem.

In this paper, an approach for designing an adaptive fuzzy model predictive control (AFMPC) based on the ant colony optimization (ACO) is studied. On-line adaptive fuzzy identification is used to identify the system parameters. These parameters are used to calculate the objective function based on predictive approach and structure of RST control. The optimization problem is solved based on an ACO algorithm, used at the optimization process in AFMPC to calculate a sequence of future RST control actions. The obtained simulation results show that proposed approach provides better results compared with Proportional Integral-ant colony optimization (PI-ACO) controller and adaptive fuzzy model predictive control (AFMPC).

The chest computed tomography (CT) is the most commonly used imaging technique for the inspection of lung lesions. In order to provide the physician more valuable preoperative opinions, a powerful computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) system is indispensable. In this paper, we aim to develop an efficient tracking framework to extract the lobe fissures by the proposed modified ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm. In this procedure, we will increase the consistency of pheromones on the lobe fissure. Hence, the gray-value of lobe fissure will be improved, and it may promote the accuracy of segmentation procedure. In order to validate the proposed system, we have tested our method in a database from 15 lung patients. The experiments indicate our method results more satisfied performance in most cases, and can help investigators detect lung lesion for further examination.

Based on particle swarm optimization algorithm, this paper presents a grid scheduling optimization algorithm combing the advantages of ant colony optimization algorithm. The algorithm processes task scheduling through particle swarm optimization algorithm to get a group of relatively optimal solutions, and then conducts small-area local search with ant colony optimization algorithm. Theoretical analysis and results of the simulation experiments show that this scheduling algorithm effectively achieves load balancing of resources with comprehensive advantages in time efficiency and solution accuracy compared to the traditional ant colony optimization algorithm and particle swarm optimizationalgorithm, and can be applied to task scheduling in grid computing.
