Numerical Analysis of Single Microstrip Antenna and antennas array in Spherically Layered Media

This communication presents a comprehensive numerical analysis of single microstrip antenna and antennas array in spherically layered media, using the method of moments (MoM). The curvilinear Rao-Wilton-Glisson (CRWG) triangular basis functions are employed to simulate the equivalent current on the antenna surface. First, the dyadic Green's functions using Debye potential are deduced. Then, their efficient computation procedures are carried out to improve calculation efficiency. Finally, the characteristic basis function method is employed to save memory and calculation time by reducing dimension of the impedance matrix. The results of this study are in good agreement with those of the FEKO software, and they show that the method proposed in this communication is more efficient than FEKO in the analysis process.

Modern wireless network requires often use of a wideband antenna system. Here, the Tapered Slot Antenna (TSA) is discussed to solve the problem of optimal solution taking into account parameters of antenna and its cost and easy construction. The short TSA without dielectric is proposed as an element of antennas array in frequency range above 2,4GHz. The modeling of antenna by means of the WIP-D program is described. The measurements results of one element and antennas array are presented. The obtained frequency range was 30 % for VSWR<2 and above 18% for VSWR<1.3.

This work focuses precisely on design and study of an antenna, printed on Epoxy-Glass substrate, operating at L2 = 1227.6 MHz frequency. This device consists of a patch antenna array to be integrated, in a GNSS/GPS network, with the aim of detecting ionosphere disturbances associated with land-based perturbations. To address such concerns, we studied a patch antennas array, consisting of four square elements. The performances of the antennas have been measured in terms of return loss, frequency of operation, bandwidth, and radiation pattern. The numerical experiments have been performed thanks to HFSS electromagnetic simulator. As a first step, a simple square printed radiation structure was designed. In a second step, a square shape (2 * 2) antennas array has been studied.

Fast-time STAP based on BSS for heterogeneous ionospheric clutter mitigation in HFSWR

High-frequency surface-wave radar (HFSWR) is widely used in vessel and aircraft detection, sea-state sensing and wind-field mapping. Target detection suffers from the ionospheric clutter, which is reflected by the ionosphere. Adaptive beamforming (ABF) has been used for ionospheric clutter mitigation. However, the performance of ABF is limited by the heterogeneous ionospheric clutter and degrees of freedom (DOF) of the antennas array. In order to improve the performance, here, the one-dimensional ABF is expanded to two-dimensional fast-time space-time adaptive processing (STAP), which combines beam and range domains to obtain more DOFs than that in the ABF. In addition, the blind sources separation (BSS) method is also used to improve the spatial covariance matrix estimation accuracy of STAP in the heterogeneous ionospheric clutter background. The simulation and real data results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed BSS-STAP method in HFSWR.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems allow array antennas to transmit different waveforms and enable flexible transmit beampattern synthesis. Most existing transmit beampattern synthesis methods focus on narrowband MIMO radar system configurations. In this study, the authors propose a novel technique to design transmit waveforms for wideband MIMO radar systems. This technique is based on the optimisation of the cross-spectral density matrix and achieves a low peak-to-average power ratio as desired in practical radar systems. Simulation results are provided to verify the low PAR waveform design capability corresponding to arbitrary beampatterns.

A Non-Uniform Circular Antenna array Failure Correction Using Firefly Algorithm

The element failure of antenna arrays disturbs the sidelobe power level. In this paper, the problem of circular antenna array failure is mitigated using firefly algorithm (FA) by controlling the amplitude excitation of array elements. A fitness model has been developed to obtain the error between pre-failed (original) sidelobe power pattern and measured sidelobe power pattern and this function has been minimized using FA. Numerical examples of different circular array structures with element failure correction are presented to show the capability of the proposed approach.

Performance Analysis of Antenna arrays in Tunnel Environment

Previous works have shown that multiple-input-multiple-output techniques such as space-time block code applied to tunnel environments present better performances than a single-input-single-output transmission, despite the small angular spread of the rays in this environment. Nevertheless, taking the guiding effect of the tunnel into account, one can wonder whether the simplest diversity schemes, in terms of complexity and implementation, may be a challenging solution, at least if compact arrays are used. The objective of this letter is thus to compare the performances of transmission schemes using diversity either at both ends of the link or at only the receiving side. The determination of symbol error rate is based on Monte Carlo simulations using channel matrices measured in a straight arched tunnel.

Low Elevation Angle Estimation Using an Iterative array Processing Method

Multipath phenomenon reduces the performance of elevation angle estimation, intensively. In this study, a precise even symmetry relation and novel iterative array processing method have been presented based on the fixed beam method for estimating the elevation angle of low-altitude targets in specular and diffuse multipath environment. We propose an iterative beamforming process for retaining antenna aperture with precise even symmetry to eliminate multipath. The Kalman filter (KF) prediction have been used to reduce the computational load of the proposed method, and the frequency diversity and KF estimation to smooth sudden fluctuations in angle estimation. The proposed method estimates the elevation angle with very high precision as shown in simulation results in the multipath environment without the need for any advance knowledge.

A Space-Time Extended MUSIC Estimation Algorithm for Wide Band Signals

The direction of arrival (DOA) estimation and the time of arrival (TOA) estimation using an antennas array are two key problems in signal processing. Recently, joint estimation of DOA and TOA has attracted considerable attentions for several applications, such as for telecommunications, military and medical. In this paper, a new method is proposed for wide band signals localization. This algorithm is presented with high-resolution localization capabilities, based on the Extended MUSIC algorithm. The capacities of the proposed approach are compared with high resolution algorithms. The new method showed interesting performance in terms of resolution and precision. In addition, the algorithm will show a good ability to estimate a number of sources that exceed the number of sensors in the antennas array which is a constraint in other algorithms.
