Research on RFID anti-collision in Multi-label Environment

This paper introduces several common binary tree anti-collision algorithms. They are binary tree algorithm, dynamic binary tree algorithm, and backward binary tree algorithm. Then, based on these algorithms, an improved binary tree algorithm is proposed. Simulation and results analysis show that the improved binary anti-collision algorithm has higher performance than other binary tree algorithms, and improves the efficiency of RFID card reader searching card in multi-label environment.

Adaptive couple-resolution blocking protocol for repeated tag identification in RFID systems

RFID applications such as monitoring an object for a long time need to identify tags repeatedly within the scope of the reader. Re-identification process can be improved using the information obtained from the previous tag identification process. Couple-resolution blocking (CRB) protocol utilizes the blocking technique that prevents staying tags from being collided by newly arriving tags. Staying tags can be efficiently re-identified by utilizing the retained information. After staying tags are separately all identified, arriving tags are identified. In this paper, we argue that CRB may work more poorly than other protocols which do not consider the repeated tag identification, such as query tree (QT) and collision tree (CT) protocol, when only few tags stay. To tackle the problem, we propose an adaptive CRB (ACRB) protocol. In ACRB, the reader estimates the tag staying ratio during the re-identification process for staying tags. If the estimated ratio is lower than a certain threshold, the blocking technique is immediately abandoned. Instead, staying tags and arriving tags are identified together without considering the retained information. In addition, we propose to improve CRB further using CT protocol, instead of QT protocol. Through computer simulation, we show that ACRB improves the identification efficiency of CRB, especially when the tag staying ratio is low.

In RFID systems, some applications require to identify tags repeatedly. Many protocols have been proposed for this purpose, which quickly reidentify staying tags within communication range of the reader using the information obtained from the previous tag identification process. However, none of them considers the capture effect and may not work properly in real wireless communication environments. When multiple tags reply simultaneously to a reader and the capture effect takes place, the reader considers the strongest signal as a successful transmission and the others are ignored. In this paper, we analyze the impact of the capture effect on the identification performance of couple-resolution blocking (CRB) protocol. Modifying CRB protocol, we also propose a new capture effect-aware anti-collision protocol. Via computer simulation, we show that about 40% of slots can be reduced with the proposed protocol from the state-of-the-art protocol, GBT in a random topology when more than 20% of tags stay in the communication range of the reader.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is an auto-identification technology which has been widely applied to many fields for its great deal of advantages, and anti-collision algorithm is one of its core technologies. Based on the deep study on the traditional and some main currently anti-collision algorithms and its deficiencies analysis, a new anti-collision model: two-time-slotted binary search algorithm is presented in this paper, which the number of times of the search command is reduced because the responds of the radio-frequency tags in the operation scope of the RFID reader are assigned to different time slot, and the anti-collision process is optimized by the simplification of requests and responses between reader and tags. Furthermore, the complete process of the above algorithm is also expounded minutely. The simulation of the new algorithm is done by the software Quartus II, and the simulation result shows that the amount of communication data is reduced greatly, the search efficiency is improved obviously, and the tag's identification becomes more accurate under the same conditions.

Precise-Optimal Frame Length Based collision Reduction Schemes for Frame Slotted Aloha RFID Systems

An RFID systems employ efficient anti-collision algorithms (ACAs) to enhance the performance in various applications. The EPC-Global G2 RFID system utilizes Frame Slotted Aloha (FSA) as its ACA. One of the common approaches used to maximize the system performance (tag identification efficiency) of FSA-based RFID systems involves finding the optimal value of the frame length relative to the contending population size of the RFID tags. Several analytical models for finding the optimal frame length have been developed;however, they are not perfectly optimized because they lack precise characterization for the timing details of the underlying ACA. In this paper, we investigate this promising direction by precisely characterizing the timing details of the EPC-Global G2 protocol and use it to derive a precise-optimal frame length model. The main objective of the model is to determine the optimal frame length value for the estimated number of tags that maximizes the performance of an RFID system. However, because precise estimation of the contending tags is difficult, we utilize a parametric-heuristic approach to maximize the system performance and propose two simple schemes based on the obtained optimal frame length-namely, Improved Dynamic-Frame Slotted Aloha (ID-FSA) and Exponential Random Partitioning-Frame Slotted Aloha (ERP-FSA). The ID-FSA scheme is based on the tag set estimation and frame size update mechanisms, whereas the ERP-FSA scheme adjusts the contending tag population in such a way that the applied frame size becomes optimal. The results of simulations conducted indicate that the ID-FSA scheme performs better than several well-known schemes in various conditions, while the ERP-FSA scheme performs well when the frame size is small.

Traditional control of tower crane is mainly accomplished by PLC. As complex anti-sway collision algorithms and remote upgrading proposed, the traditional controller can not meet these requirements. This paper introduces a novel type of tower crane controller constructed mainly by DSP28335, and details how the controller hardware designed and software accomplished. For anti-collision requirement, the paper gives specific algorithm and the theory of instructions. At the same time, remote upgrading can be accomplished by GPRS. Experimental results show that the new controller was fully realized the function of the original PLC controller. Not only can it realize the action required of the tower crane safely and stably, but also it can execute anti-collision algorithms effectively. After upgrading, the controller can run safely and stably.

This paper is going to present a new algorithm called "PP" (a RFID anti-collision algorithm based on pipeline and pre-detecting mechanism) to solve the problem of collisions among the tags in RFID system. This algorithm provides a hardware architecture consisting of two antennas: a pre-detection antenna for pre-detecting and a reading antenna for tag reading, the two processes of which will work respectively and concurrently based on pipeline system. Compared with other related researches, this algorithm that avoids the waste of time in the process of pre-detecting and free from the limitation the ratio of the length of detection slot to reading slot will contribute to a non-stop reading operation. Our simulation illuminates that the proposed PP algorithm outperforms the existing ones in efficiency, stability and the leakage rate of tags.
