The message passing interface lets users develop portable message passing programs for parallel computing in C, C++, and Fortran. When combined with an MPI C/C++ library, Ch, an embeddable C/C++ interpreter for executing C/C++ programs interpretively, lets developers rapidly prototype MPI C/C++ programs without having to compile and link.

Today, internet of things (IoT) platforms offer proprietary interfaces and protocols. To enable interoperable interaction with those platforms we present the generic BIG IoT API that employs a novel approach for self-description and semantic annotation to fully adapt arbitrary IoT platforms. We have deployed this approach for multiple platforms from the mobility domain.

In this study, a hybrid parallelisation approach for the simulation of non-linear electromagnetic problems by means of the message passing interface (MPI) and the OpenMP application program interface for the finite-element method (FEM) is investigated. After an introduction, the metrics applied to evaluate the speedup and the efficiency are outlined. By parallelising the institute's in-house FEM-package 'iMOOSE' either by MPI or by OpenMP, an evaluation basis for the hybrid approach is being founded. The hybrid parallelisation approach is being evaluated on the high-performance computing cluster of university's centre for computing and communication.

Using swig to bind C++ to python

An increasingly popular approach to scientificomputing is to combine Pythonand compiled modules. Such an approach merges the high performance typically found in compiledroutines with the interface of a flexible, scalable, and easy-to-learn interpreted *** using to hand-code extensions to Python binds the latter to a given compiled asset inC++, programmers who used C++'s more advanced features (until recentlylacked the automated supportavailable in Fortran and C. One tool for creating Python bindings to the Simplified Wrapper andInterface Generator. SWIG-an open-source application used by a large and ever-expandingcommunity-began as an effort to expose physics packages in a large parallel simulation code tointerpreted languages. SWIG preprocesses and C++ code and generates library bindings in severalinterpreted languages including Python, Pert, Tcl, and Java. Recent improvements to SWIG providegreater support for binding C++ code. SWIG now creates, for example, bindings for some of C++'s moreadvanced features such as templates and exceptions. This article explores how SWIG does this byexamining a series of small C++ code examples.

Easing the development of android apps to create electronic prototypes: IOIO plus App Inventor

To validate the concept of an electronic system before thinking of commercial uses, a prototype needs to be developed first. However, technical knowledge in electronics and computer science (CS) is required. Due to the importance of these fields in the world of today, where almost everything is regulated by technology, several initiatives emerged to provide the general public with these knowledge. In this context, there is a focus on the education field where several efforts have been made to lower the entry level to electronics and CS fields, enabling even kids to learn the basic concepts at an early age and have the possibility to concretise their ideas and develop their own prototype. The study presents a solution to facilitate the task of programming electronic gadgets using graphical programming. The authors consider as case study an electronic system built around the IOIO board. The graphical programming interface was created using App Inventor, a web platform for creating android apps. Using the proposed system, several basic and complex gadgets were easily created by young school children with minimal skills in hardware assembly and software programming.

Empirical investigation: performance and power-consumption based dual-level model for exascale computing systems

Exascale computing systems (ECS) are anticipated to perform at Exaflop speed (10(18) operations per second) using power consumption <20 MW. This ultrascale performance requires the speedup in the system by thousand-fold enhancement in current Petascale. For future high-performance computing (HPC), power consumption is one of the vital challenges faced to achieve Exaflops through the traditional way of increasing clock-speed. One standard way to attain such significant performance is through massive parallelism. In the early stages, it is hard to decide the promising parallel programming approach that can provide massive parallelism to attain ExaFlops. This article commences with a short description and implementation of algorithms of various hybrid parallel programming models (PPMs) for homogeneous and heterogeneous cluster systems. Furthermore, the authors evaluated performance and power consumption in these hybrid models by implementing in two HPC benchmarking applications such as square matrix multiplication and Jacobi iterative solver for two-dimensional Laplace equation. The results demonstrated that the hybrid of heterogeneous (MPI + X) outperformed to homogeneous parallel programming (MPI + OpenMP) model. This empirical investigation of hybrid PPMs is a leading step for researchers and development communities to select a promising model for emerging ECS.

Regardless of test-driven development's well-known benefits, it has suffered slow adoption in GUI development. Because GUIs are one of an application's most important components, testing them is essential for improving the entire system's safety and robustness. Testing GUIs is difficult, but several recommendations and practices can simplify test-driven GUI development for Java Swing applications.

Context The currently existing literature about application program Interface (API) usability is heterogeneous in terms of goals, scope, and audience;and its connection to accepted definitions of usability is rarely made explicit. The use of metrics to measure API usability is focused only on measurable characteristics excluding those usability aspects that are related to the subjectivity of human opinions. Objective: Our objective is to build a comprehensive set of heuristics and guidelines for API usability that is a structured synthesis of the existing literature on API usability but which also covers other aspects that have been neglected so far. This set is explicitly connected with a usability model, something that allows us to check if we are addressing actual usability problems. Method: Our approach is to follow a systematic approach based on a comprehensive model of usability and context-of-use. From this comprehensive model we derived the set of heuristics and guidelines that are used to carry out a heuristic evaluation with usability experts and a subjective analysis with users. The influence of the context of use, something that is normally ignored, is explicitly analyzed. Results: Our heuristics and guidelines were integrated into a usability study of a sleep medicine API. In this study, we were able to identify several usability issues of the proposed API that are not explicitly addressed in the existing literature. The context of use helped us to identify those categories that were more relevant to consider in order to improve API usability. Conclusion: The literature on API usability is very technically-minded and tends to neglect the subjective component of usability. We contribute to a more global and comprehensive view of the usability of APIs that is not contradictory but complementary with metrics. Our criteria ease the always necessary usability evaluation with human evaluators and users.
