M4 Structures Studio (M4SS) is a physics-based structural modeling tool capable of rapidly defining aircraft structural layouts. Additionally, the structural layouts maintain a parametric relationship to a geometry model. Previous work has demonstrated the ability for M4SS to interface with geometric models developed within the Engineering Sketch Pad (ESP) framework. The effort outlined in this paper focuses on furthering that integration by developing an M4SS Analysis interface Module (AIM) for the ESP-based Computational Aircraft Prototype Synthesis (CAPS) library. The AIM will allow M4SS to interface with other tools within a CAPS problem. Additionally, enhancements were made to M4SS to streamline AIM development and improve its utility. The improved M4SS and ESP integration is demonstrated on a scaled flutter model based on the X-56.

This paper presents a system able to generate an abstraction framework over a RDF-based, semantic triplestore, offering Object-Oriented application programming interfaces to be made available for external applications. The system only requires a well-defined RDF schema and a minimal supervision by the user, and is able to produce all of the components of the API framework at their different layers, ranging from data source classes up to higher-level modules in terms of web service interfaces, in order to provide CRUD operations over the underlying semantic data. The system is sufficiently generic to accept any RDF repository with its schema as input, and can be easily configured to fine-tune the automatic generation of the API components to suit the needs of specific applications. The system has been deployed and tested on top of a large semantic repository featuring a schema where multiple real-world conceptualizations are defined, including one representing a learning model specifically designed for advanced e-learning management platforms.

This paper addresses the challenges posed by new 5G-IoT (Internet-of-Things) satellite constellations in telecommunication. The focus is on the development of an efficient and autonomous management system for such constellations. The authors previously presented a management tool and a simulator capable of computing visibility events across multiple locations, including ground stations, user equipment, and target areas. Here, the contact simulator has been upgraded to incorporate key features such as inter-satellite links, Kalman filter for orbit determination, and the implementation of link budgets. These advancements enable improved management and optimization of IoT satellite constellations in the evolving telecommunication landscape. The structure of the tool is restated with minor advancements in automation and efficiency.

Background: Referring patients to specialty care is an inefficient and error-prone process. Gaps in the referral process lead to delays in patients' access to care, negative patient experience, worse health outcomes, and increased operational costs. While implementation of standards-based electronic referral options can alleviate some of these inefficiencies, many referrals to tertiary and quaternary care centers continue to be sent via fax. Objective: We describe the design process and architecture for a software application that has been developed and deployed to optimize the referrals intake process by automating the processing and digitization of incoming specialty referral faxes, extracting key data elements and integrating them into the electronic health record (EHR), and organizing referrals. Methods: A human-centered design approach was used to identify and describe the inefficiencies in the external referral process at our large, urban tertiary care center. Referrals Automation, an application to convert referral faxes to digital referrals in the EHR, was conceptualized based on key stakeholder interviews and time and motion studies. This application was designed using Substitutable Medical applications and Reusable Technologies (SMART) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) platforms to allow for adaptability into other healthcare organizations. Results: Referrals Automation software was developed as a healthcare information technology solution to streamline the fax to referral process. The application was implemented into several specialty clinics. Metrics were built-in to the applications to evaluate and guide the further iteration of these features. Conclusions: Referrals Automation will enhance the referrals process by further streamlining and organizing the patient referral process.

This paper presents Songle Sync, a web-based platform on which hundreds of Internet-connected devices-including smartphones, computers, and other physical computing devices-can be controlled to synchronize with music playback. It uses music-understanding technologies to dynamically synthesize music-driven multimedia performances from a musical piece of choice. To simultaneously control hundreds of devices, a conventional architecture keeps always-on connections between them. However, it does not scale and suffers from latency and jitter issues when there are various devices with potentially unstable networks. We address this with a novel autonomous control architecture in which each device is notified of forthcoming musical events (e.g., beats and chorus sections) to automatically drive various changes in multimedia performances. Moreover, we provide a development kit of an event-driven multimedia framework for JavaScript, example programs, and an interactive tutorial. To evaluate the platform, we compared latencies, jitters, and amounts of network traffic between ours and the conventional architecture. To examine use cases in the wild, we deployed the platform to drive over a hundred of a variety of devices. We also developed a web browser-based application for a multimedia performance with music playback. It provided audiences of hundreds with a bring-your-own-device experience of synchronized animations on smartphones. In addition, the development kit was used in a two-day hackathon. We report lessons learned from these studies and discuss the future of the Internet of Musical Things.

Various security APIs (application programming interfaces) are being used in a variety of application areas requiring the information security function. However, these standards are not compatible, and the developer must use those APIs selectively depending on the application environment or the programming language. To resolve this problem, we propose the standard draft of the information security component, while SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) using the confidentiality and integrity component interface has been implemented to verify validity of the standard proposal. The implemented SSL uses the lower-level SSL component when establishing the RMI (Remote Method Invocation) communication between components, as if the security algorithm had been implemented by adding one more layer on the TCP/IP.

The Communications Resource Manager (CRM) provides communications at a specified Quality of Service (QoS) for networked multimedia workstations in an environment where the network and workstation resources are changing. The CRM enables a consistent application interface and manages all workstation communications resources. It established network connections on behalf of applications, monitors their progress and notifies applications when network QoS events take place. applications can then modify their behavior (compression rate, number of simultaneous media, media type) to cope with the change. The CRM provides mechanisms to negotiate at call setup time the level of multimedia support provided. If optimal resources are not available, call quality degradation paths allow call establishment at the highest QoS possible. Call admission based on on-going network performance monitoring and application performance feedback from the CRM can be used to prevent further QoS degradation by refusing to attempt connections when insufficient resources are available. The CRM enables existing multimedia workstations to communicate in an environment with known QoS. The CRM flows naturally into emerging QoS techniques for end-to-end ATM services. Because the CRM operates at the application level it is also applicable to the ATM interconnection of LANs whereas current ATM Forum proposals are not.

Safety Assessment is paramount in aircraft design, and increasing aircraft complexity has led to the need for aircraft safety assessments in the early design stages. For unconventional aircraft or aircraft with novel propulsion or system technologies, it becomes even more critical to investigate safety as early as possible in the design process to avoid unfeasible aircraft configurations and system architectures. In this context, the Particular Risk Analysis (PRA) and the Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA) are essential to assess early. Both of them require a threedimensional (3D) model of the aircraft and systems. To analyze many aircraft configurations and system architectures, the 3D parametric model and the PRA and ZSA require automation. This paper reviews methodologies for performing the ZSA and PRA from a systems point-of-view and proposes parametric zone definition, identification of risk zones, and a conceptual level analysis of the component placement strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated with a main landing gear ZSA and a tire burst PRA case study for a conventional aircraft. The presented work is a step towards integrating system safety analysis into multidisciplinary analysis and optimization environments, thus increasing conceptual design maturity and reducing development time.

In this paper, the authors propose a smart homecare system built on an Android smartphone. The database and application programming interface (API) are set up on the server side. The database collects information from various sensors and stores it, and the API acts as a bridge between the mobile phone and the database. The API prevents the leakage of private data. In the associated Android smartphone app, two functions are provided: instant monitoring based on in-home sensor data and fall detection using the three-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and orientation sensor inbuilt into the smartphone. When the sensor data are abnormal, the remote controller is notified immediately. Moreover, the remote controller can view real-time images by using an IP camera to guarantee home safety. As for fall detection, given that falls cause severe injuries in elder people and children, the proposed app can detect a fall event, send a help message, and indicate the user's location by using the global positioning system and Google Maps API. According to the simulation results obtained in this study, the proposed system exhibited a fall-detection sensitivity of 92.5% and specificity of 97.6%, thus proving that the system can be effectively used for home care.

System-on-chip design is highly reliant on efficient tooling and commonly agreed standards. IP-XACT is the de-facto industry standard for exchanging design data, yet tool flows fail to fully leverage the information within. We present a Python application programming interface for Kactus2, an open-source IP-XACT design tool to improve the utilization of the standard in tool flows. The Python programming language is well understood, fast to develop and easy to interface with which motivated the language choice. We demonstrate the API applicability in a use case as a part of a recently taped-out System-on-Chip ASIC implementation.
