Computing power and molecular simulation methodology have improved dramatically over the past decade, and for some systems molecular models are reaching a point where they can provide information that approaches or surpasses the quality of real experimental data. Molecular simulation can also be a potent tool for developing qualitative understanding, and this feature suggests widespread use of molecular simulation as a tool for teaching. Broader use of molecular simulation for these purposes requires tools that promote understanding and application of simulation software. We present an "object-oriented" view of molecular simulation that can help conceptualize and organize its elements, and discuss software development tools that we have constructed that enable non-experts in simulation or graphical programming to create instructive molecular simulations. We finish with an example of one such simulation applet, which we have used in the classroom. Tools described here are available on the web at ***/etomica. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Conventional computing systems require some form of an OS or kernel to run applications. These include minimal OSs and small kernels such as tiny Linux kernels, and embedded OSs. In a bare machine computing (BMC) system there is no OS or kernel, thus enabling applications to be completely self-supporting while eliminating OS vulnerabilities and overhead. These applications, which are currently written in C/C++ with some assembly code, run on desktops or laptops with Intel x86 CPUs, and integrate the necessary BMC software and hardware interfaces. This paper provides internal details of several such BMC interfaces showing how they are designed, implemented and integrated with OS-independent applications. BMC interfaces could he adapted in future for use in database servers for Big Data applications, controllers for software defined networking, and IoT devices or smart phones with a view towards improving security and performance.

Unexpected main bearing failure on a wind turbine causes unwanted maintenance and increased operation costs (mainly due to crane, parts, labor, and production loss). Unfortunately, historical data indicates that failure can happen far earlier than the design lives of the component. Root cause analysis investigations have pointed to problems inherent from manufacturing as the major contributor, as well as issues related to event loads (e.g., startups, shutdowns, and emergency stops), extreme environmental conditions, and maintenance practices, among others. Altogether, the multiple failure modes and contributors make modeling remaining useful life of main bearings a very daunting task. In this paper, we present a novel physics-informed neural network modeling approach for main bearing fatigue. The proposed approach is fully hybrid and designed to merge physics-informed and data-driven layers within deep neural networks. The result is a cumulative damage model where the physics-informed layers are used model the relatively well-understood physics (L10 fatigue life) and the data-driven layers account for the hard to model components (e.g., contribution due to poor greasing conditions).

In today's conditions, parents have to work for home economics. For this reason, it is not always possible for parents to meet their children's needs, to protect them from dangers and to help them. Parents agree with a fee-paying caregiver to ensure that their children's needs are provided. Looking after a child by a caregiver can create a variety of security problems for the mother and the father. In addition, because of the child's development levels, there is always the possibility of encountering an extreme situation everywhere. This project has been developed for observing Alzheimer's patients as well as children. Alzheimer's disease is a disorder of phases. The individual with this disorder is in need of care after a certain level. For this reason, observation of the individuals with this disease and their caregivers is also important for safety. In this completed project, Raspberry Pi microcomputer has been used. A camera has been placed on the chest line. An image is taken every 5 minutes by the camera. This image is transferred to the REST API based web service. In addition, facial analysis has been performed on the photographs using image processing techniques. The faces found have been stored in a separate directory on the REST API based web service. The SIM808 GSM / GPS module has been used to enable the system to be active everywhere. Family members can follow the images transferred by the module with the help of the user panel in the web service.

Developers increasingly rely on API tutorials to facilitate software development. However, it remains a challenging task for them to discover relevant API tutorial fragments explaining unfamiliar APIs. Existing supervised approaches suffer from the heavy burden of manually preparing corpus-specific annotated data and features. In this study, we propose a novel unsupervised approach, namely Fragment Recommender for APIs with PageRank and Topic model (FRAPT). FRAPT can well address two main challenges lying in the task and effectively determine relevant tutorial fragments for APIs. In FRAPT, a Fragment Parser is proposed to identify APIs in tutorial fragments and replace ambiguous pronouns and variables with related ontologies and API names, so as to address the pronoun and variable resolution challenge. Then, a Fragment Filter employs a set of non-explanatory detection rules to remove non-explanatory fragments, thus address the non-explanatory fragment identification challenge. Finally, two correlation scores are achieved and aggregated to determine relevant fragments for APIs, by applying both topic model and PageRank algorithm to the retained fragments. Extensive experiments over two publicly open tutorial corpora show that, FRAPT improves the state-of-the-art approach by 8.77% and 12.32% respectively in terms of F-Measure. The effectiveness of key components of FRAPT is also validated.

Since the 2000s, so-called cloud computing infrastructures have had a profound impact on the capitalist relationship among labor, software, and organizations. This infrastructuring did not only affect the outsourcing of servers and databases but extends to the on-demand delivery of middleware and operating systems through so-called platforms-as-a-service (PaaS). As a result, the capitalist relationship between labor, organization, power, and software has shifted - both regarding the ways in which software development is organized and the ways in which work processes are organized through software. Such a shift is particularly evident in the development and application of so-called customer relationship management (CRM) software, which is used to plan and record sales and work processes. No longer limited to performance measurement and automated management within sales processes, the widely used Salesforce CRM software is leveraged to document and assess the work performance of employees meticulously, among other applications. To demonstrate how PaaS became central organizational media by reformatting labor and power asymmetries, the paper provides a critical analysis of the CRM software of Salesforce and the various actors and interfaces entangled with its PaaS. Thereby, the paper develops a critical media theoretical framework to analyze how the political economy of adapting PaaS is entangled with power dependencies between organizations and the labor of coding and implementing. Drawing on a platform historiographical analysis of Salesforce developer interfaces, the paper shows how organizational hierarchies and asymmetries manifest in the work of implementing specific sets of operational rules in software development (the work of formatting) and the platform capitalist standardization of work coordination in existing organizations (the formatting of work).

Deep convolutional neural networks have been successfully used in image classification, image segmentation, and many other recognition tasks in computer vision. Nevertheless, building specialized models for industrial applications, is still a challenging task (as these problems often lack the rich and fully tagged databses, such as the one found in ImageNet [1, 2]). We used the "Airbus Ship Detection Challenge" as a case study to demonstrate how transfer learning can aid in building models for image classification and segmentation within an industrial setting. The training set is highly biased as there is only 22% of the satellite images with ships on it. On top of that, images are very noisy, with clouds, haze, ships near coastal lines and ports, etc.. Our proposed solution used two deep neural networks: a convolutional neural network for image classification (selecting images with ships on it) followed by a residual network for image segmentation (returning the ship locations within the image). More specifically, the image classification was done through a VGG16 network [3] while the image segmentation was done through a U-Net [4] (we tested both VGG16 and InceptionV3 [5] as encoders). For this application, our results show that a) using transfer learning from models previously created for ImageNet, we were able to achieve a 30% savings in computational cost associated with training while keeping the same accuracy level, and b) both VGG16 and inception led to accurate U-Net models for image segmentation, even though there is slightly smaller computational cost when using inception.

We demonstrate the advantages of using geometry-based high-order finite element approximations for the solution of dispersion-dominant wave-dependent problems like structuralacoustics. Our approach uses an hp-finite-element framework that is tightly coupled to a geometry-based system for curved mesh generation, adaptation and analysis attribution. This enables robust automation of the entire solution process with minimal manual intervention. We give examples involving the structural-acoustics response of three-dimensional visco-elastic structures and show that high-order methods provide significantly higher accuracy per unit computational cost, including wall-clock time and memory needs, when compared to low-order approximations. Our results show that a high-order approximation can match the solution accuracy of a low-order approximation using 43 times fewer unknown degrees-of-freedom. We also highlight the critical role of accurate geometry representation to achieve these gains.

APIs have been recognized in the CHI community and beyond as designed objects worthy of usability analysis. Some work in this vein has investigated the learnability of APIs in particular. Drawing on activity theory, we argue that APIs can also potentially have broader learning consequences for their users. By mediating interactions with code, APIs can shape their users' understanding of computing problems. We thus suggest that, by envisioning high-level API affordances as scaffolds, API designers can not only enhance users' productivity, but they can also help drive adoption of software components attempting to radically innovate on their past inheritance. We propose scaffold design recommendations that can augment existing API usability frameworks.

Healthcare-related research studies often deploy ecological momentary assessment techniques to sample information from participants in their natural environment. This paper presents an online system to support remote access of ecological self-report and actigraphy-based measurements for individuals with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and their caregivers. The presented framework includes a custom mobile app and makes use of a web-based application programming interface for data collection with wrist-worn actigraphy devices. The system was evaluated with a research protocol to measure sleep, fatigue, and pain for individuals with ALS and their caregivers (N=8) over a consecutive seven-day period. Though daily self-report response rates were widespread (0%-100%) and the remote actigraphy collection varied in reliability, novel relationships between individuals with ALS and their caregivers were identified from the collected data. Online, ecological systems can support real-time remote monitoring and/or interventions to help understand diseases like ALS and advance healthcare research.
