Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings play a critical role in cancer care by fostering collaboration between different health care professionals to develop optimal treatment recommendations. However, meeting scheduling and coordination rely heavily on manual work, making information-sharing and integration challenging. This results in incomplete information, affecting decision-making efficiency and impacting the progress of MDT. This project aimed to optimize and digitize the MDT workflow by interviewing the members of an MDT and implementing an integrated information platform using the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard. MDT process re-engineering was conducted at a central Taiwan medical center. To digitize the workflow, our hospital adopted the NAVIFY Tumor Board (NTB), a cloud-based platform integrating medical data using international standards, including Logical Object Identifiers, Names, and Codes, Systemized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms, M-code, and FHIR. We improved our hospital's information system using application programming interfaces to consolidate data from various systems, excluding sensitive cases. Using FHIR, we aggregated, analyzed, and converted the data for seamless integration. Using a user experience design, we gained insights into the lung cancer MDT's processes and needs. We conducted 2 phases: pre- and post-NTB integration. Ethnographic observations and stakeholder interviews revealed pain points. The affinity diagram method categorizes the pain points during the discussion process, leading to efficient solutions. We divided the observation period into 2 phases: before and after integrating the NTB with the hospital information system. In phase 1, there were 83 steps across the 6 MDT activities, leading to inefficiencies and potential delays in patient care. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI),it is foreseeable that the accuracy and efficiency of dynamic analysis for future power system will be greatly improved by the integration of dynamic simulators and *** explore the interaction mechanism of power system dynamic simulations and AI,a general design for AI-oriented power system dynamic simulators is proposed,which consists of a high-performance simulator with neural network supportability and flexible external and internal application programming interfaces(APIs).With the support of APIs,simulation-assisted AI and AIassisted simulation form a comprehensive interaction mechanism between power system dynamic simulations and AI.A prototype of this design is implemented and made public based on a highly efficient electromechanical *** of this prototype are carried out in four scenarios including sample generation,AI-based stability prediction,data-driven dynamic component modeling,and AI-aided stability control,which prove the validity,flexibility,and efficiency of the design and implementation for AI-oriented power system dynamic simulators.

Classification with costly features in hierarchical deep sets

Classification with costly features (CwCF) is a classification problem that includes the cost of features in the optimization criteria. Individually for each sample, its features are sequentially acquired to maximize accuracy while minimizing the acquired features' cost. However, existing approaches can only process data that can be expressed as vectors of fixed length. In real life, the data often possesses rich and complex structure, which can be more precisely described with formats such as XML or JSON. The data is hierarchical and often contains nested lists of objects. In this work, we extend an existing deep reinforcement learning-based algorithm with hierarchical deep sets and hierarchical softmax, so that it can directly process this data. The extended method has greater control over which features it can acquire and, in experiments with seven datasets, we show that this leads to superior performance. To showcase the real usage of the new method, we apply it to a real-life problem of classifying malicious web domains, using an online service.

Blockchain Technology for Healthcare: Facilitating the Transition to Patient-Driven Interoperability

Interoperability in healthcare has traditionally been focused around data exchange between business entities, for example, different hospital systems. However, there has been a recent push towards patient-driven interoperability, in which health data exchange is patient-mediated and patient-driven. Patient-centered interoperability, however, brings with it new challenges and requirements around security and privacy, technology, incentives, and governance that must be addressed for this type of data sharing to succeed at scale. In this paper, we look at how blockchain technology might facilitate this transition through five mechanisms: (1) digital access rules, (2) data aggregation, (3) data liquidity, (4) patient identity, and (5) data immutability. We then look at barriers to blockchain-enabled patient-driven interoperability, specifically clinical data transaction volume, privacy and security, patient engagement, and incentives. We conclude by noting that while patient-driving interoperability is an exciting trend in healthcare, given these challenges, it remains to be seen whether blockchain can facilitate the transition from institution-centric to patient-centric data sharing. Full- and partial-admission performance of the simplex turbine

The turbines used in rocket-engine applications are often partial-admission turbines, meaning that the flow enters the rotor over only a portion of the annulus. These turbines have been traditionally analyzed, however, assuming full-admission characteristics. This assumption enables the simulation of only a portion of the 360-deg annulus with periodic boundary conditions applied in the circumferential direction. Whereas this traditional approach to simulating the flow in partial-admission turbines significantly reduces the computational requirements, the accuracy of the solutions has not been evaluated or compared to partial-admission data. In the current investigation, both full-admission and partial-admission three-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes simulations were performed. for a partial-admission turbine designed and tested at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. The results indicate that the partial-admission nature of the turbine should be included in simulations to properly predict the performance and flow unsteadiness of the turbine.

How APIs Create Growth by Inverting the Firm

Traditional asset management strategy has emphasized building barriers to entry or closely guarding unique assets to maintain a firm's comparative advantage. A new "inverted firm" paradigm, however, has emerged. Under this strategy, firms share data seeking to become platforms by opening digital services to third parties and capturing part of their external surplus. This contrasts with a "pipeline" strategy where the firm itself creates value. This paper quantitatively estimates the effect of adopting an inverted firm strategy through the lens of application programming interfaces (APIs), a key enabling technology. Using both public data and those of a private API development firm, we document rapid growth of the API network and connecting apps since 2005. We then perform difference-in-difference and synthetic control analyses and find that public firms adopting public APIs grew an additional 38.7% over 16 years relative to similar nonadopters. We find no significant effect from the use of APIs purely for internal productivity: the pipeline strategy. Within the subset of firms that adopt public APIs, those that attract more third party complementors and those that become more central to the network see faster growth. Using variation in network centrality caused by API degradation, an instrumental variables analysis confirms a causal role for APIs in firm market value. Finally, we document an important downside of public APIs: increased risk of data breach. Overall, these facts lead us to conclude that APIs have a large and positive impact on economic growth and do so primarily by enabling an inverted firm strategy.

Web-based workflow framework with CORBA

Workflow is an important class of applications in the daily business. A number of web-based workflow systems have been developed recently as a natural extension to traditional workflow systems to exploit the growing popularity of the Internet. However, most of them are designed based on the specific application at hand. In this paper, we distill out the fundamental elements of a workflow system into a general workflow framework. The framework provides appropriate application programming interfaces for programmers to fill in the application specific requirements of a workflow system at hand. This is realized through two object-wrappers: the Task interface and the Resource interface, which support the specification of the tasks involved in the workflow schedule and the resources accessed respectively. A major characteristic of the framework is that the particular workflow schedule under execution is fluid, in the sense that the tasks involved as well as their precedence relationships can be modified dynamically. Consistency constraints will be examined in this paper which determine when such modifications are allowed. To maximize flexibility, we adhere our design to the CORBA architecture, which has been becoming highly popular in recent years, thus allowing tasks and resources of different types to interoperate in our framework. We demonstrate the feasibility of our framework with a small prototype that allows tasks in a workflow system to be scheduled and executed.

A flexible middleware for multimedia communication: Design, implementation, and experience

Distributed multimedia applications require a variety of communication services. These services and different application requirements have to be provided and supported within: 1) end-systems in an efficient and integrated manner, combining the precise specification of quality-of-service (QoS) requirements, application interfaces, multicast support, and security features and 2) the network. The Da CaPo++ system presented in this paper provides an efficient end-system middle-ware for multimedia applications, capable of handling various types of applications in a modular fashion. application needs and communication demands are specified by values in terms of QoS attributes and functional properties, such as encryption requirements or multicast support, Da CaPo++ automatically configures suitable communication protocols, provides for an efficient runtime support, and offers an easy-to-use, object-oriented application programming interface. While its applicability to real-life applications was shown by prototype implementations, performance evaluations have been carried out yielding practical experiences and numerical results.

Background: Ongoing innovation in phylogenetics and evolutionary biology has been accompanied by a proliferation of software tools, data formats, analytical techniques and web servers. This brings with it the challenge of integrating phylogenetic and other related biological data found in a wide variety of formats, and underlines the need for reusable software that can read, manipulate and transform this information into the various forms required to build computational pipelines. Results: We built a Python software library for working with phylogenetic data that is tightly integrated with Biopython, a broad-ranging toolkit for computational biology. Our library, ***, is highly interoperable with existing libraries, tools and standards, and is capable of parsing common file formats for phylogenetic trees, performing basic transformations and manipulations, attaching rich annotations, and visualizing trees. We unified the modules for working with the standard file formats Newick, NEXUS and phyloXML behind a consistent and simple API, providing a common set of functionality independent of the data source. Conclusions: *** meets a growing need in bioinformatics for working with heterogeneous types of phylogenetic data. By supporting interoperability with multiple file formats and leveraging existing Biopython features, this library simplifies the construction of phylogenetic workflows. We also provide examples of the benefits of building a community around a shared open-source project. *** is included with Biopython, available through the Biopython website, http://***.
