In order to improve the precision of the sprayer field operation and reduce the overlapping rate as well as the missing rate during the spray process, an auxiliary navigation system based on Baidu map JavaScript API (applicationprogramming interface) was designed to prevent overlapping spray and missing spray. Technologies such as serial communication, GPS (Global Positioning System) positioning, Baidu map API, path planning and geographic information system were integrated in this system. Accordingly, the functions of vehicle positioning, path planning, job navigation, doodle in operated areas, real-time data collection and automatic processing in spray process could be achieved. In order to verify the reliability and stability of the designed navigation system, an experimental platform was developed for auxiliary navigation system based on the self-developed 3WPG-3000 high clearance self-propelled sprayer. In addition, an RTK GPS and a computer were also integrated in this system. Moreover, experiments of AB line navigation and free line navigation were carried out. The results indicated that the overlapping rate of the AB line navigation and the free line navigation as well as the missing rate of them were 2.54%, 0.26% and 4.43%, 0.88% respectively, which meet the needs of sprayer field operation.

The description of an innovative framework built on top of Web based visual programming environment is the primary aim of this contribution. In the last decade, many frameworks oriented to visual languages have been introduced in literature to improve the skill on programming languages, but at the best of our knowledge, no framework has been specially designed to support collaborative work on heterogeneous distributed environments. Therefore, SIRENE introduces a new framework in which beginners and experts can cooperate to develop algorithms by using a visual and iconic paradigm. Students, in the classroom or connected from everywhere, can he involved into the definition of the algorithm, can asynchronously modify the common working space, show a visual function to expert, thus the server hosts a shared space in which the algorithms can be visualised and modified by all of the SIRENE clients. SIRENE is primarily a visual framework oriented to collaborative approaches in which each user can visualise the evolution or implementation of some algorithms and modify it during its development by other users.

We describe the design and implementation of the new, little-endian Linux on Power operating environment, with a particular emphasis on its applicationinterfaces. The new environment was designed to simplify porting of applications from other processor architectures to Power. It uses little-endian data formats to reduce the need for code adaptation and debugging during porting, and to simplify the use of commodity off-the-shelf system components, such as I/O adapters and accelerators. We took advantage of introducing a new operating environment to optimize the platform application binary interface (ABI) for new programming patterns and paradigms, resulting in enhanced out-of-the-box performance. The new ABI responds to increasing componentization of applications by reducing the overhead involved in function calls with an emphasis on accelerating calls to short functions as well as calls to runtime-resolved functions, i.e., functions in shared libraries, function pointers, virtual methods, and interface functions.

Cognitive applications are complex and are composed of multiple components exhibiting diverse workload behavior. Efficient execution of these applications requires systems that can effectively of handle this diversity. In this paper, we show that IBM POWER9 (TM) shared memory systems have the compute capacity and memory throughput to efficiently handle the broad spectrum of computing requirements for cognitive workloads. We first review the GraphBLAS interface defined for supporting cognitive applications, particularly whole-graph analytics. We show that this application-programming interface effectively separates the concerns between the analytics application developer and the system developer and simultaneously enables good performance by permitting system developers to make platform-specific optimizations. A linear algebra formulation and execution of betweenness centrality kernel in the High-Performance Computing Scalable Graph Analysis Benchmark, for 256 million vertices and 2 billion edges graphs, delivers a sixfold reduction in execution time over a reference implementation. Following that, we present the results of benchmarking the forward propagation step of deep neural networks (DNNs) written in GraphBLAS and executed on POWER9. We present the rationale and evidence for weight matrices of large DNNs being sparse and show that for sparse weight matrices, GraphBLAS/POWER (R) has a two orders-of-magnitude performance advantage over dense implementations. applications requiring analysis of graphs larger than several tens of billion vertices require distributed computing environments such as Apache Spark to provide resilience and parallelism. In the last few years, multimedia technologies in general, and Real-Time multimedia Communications (RTC) in particular, are becoming mainstream among WWW and smartphone developers, who have an increasing interest in richer media capabilities for creating their applications. The engineering literature proposing novel algorithms, protocols and architectures for managing and processing multimedia information is currently overwhelming. However, most of these results do not arrive to applications due to the lack of simple and usable APIs. Interestingly, in this context in which APIs are the critical ingredient for reaching wide developer audiences, the scientific literature about multimedia APIs and their usability is scarce. In this paper we try to contribute to fill this gap by proposing the RTC Media API: a novel type of API designed with the aim of making simple for developers the use of latest trends in RTC multimedia including WebRTC, Video Content Analysis or Augmented Reality. We provide a specification of such API and discuss how it satisfies a set of design requirements including programming-language agnosticism, adaptation to cloud environments, support to multisensory multimedia, etc. After that, we describe an implementation of such an API that has been created in the context of the Kurento open source software project, and present a study evaluating the API usability performed in a group of more than 40 professional developers distributed worldwide. In the light of the obtained results, we conclude that the usability of the API is adequate across the main development activities (i.e. API learning, code creation and code maintenance), with an average usability score of 3.39 over 5 in a Likert scale, and that this result is robust with respect to developers' profiles, cultures, professional experiences and preferred programming languages.

The Wendelstein 7-X steady state plasma control and data acquisition system has been successfully commissioned and well established to investigate the plasma startup and run the first complex physics programs during the initial operation phase of W7-X. The main components of W7-X and a set of operational diagnostics have been integrated into the CoDaC system. The various different requests from the experimenters could be satisfied using the well established set of tools and interfaces - demonstrating their qualification for continuous operation. The influence of advertising on social networks and its effect on young people's self-image has been studied. This study first explored the frequency of published videos reposted on social networks using different application programming interfaces as search engines. The study also implemented self-valuation surveys assessed by experts and distributed among mental health professionals who assessed the influence of these social networks. Finally, the survey was designed regarding social networks and body assessment and distributed among Cordoba university students (N = 328). The majority of health professionals concluded that there is an elevated influence of social networks on eating disorders, assessing advertising as a risk factor with a value of 4.60 out of 5. Young people's perceptions of their body image indicate that women's degree of satisfaction is highly correlated with the frequency of their connections to social networks, with the body image those women present and with the effect of advertising. Conversely, this high correlation and influence does not exist in men.

Whilst robots are increasingly being deployed as social agents, it is still difficult to program them to interact socially. To create usable tools for programming these robots, tool developers need to know what abstraction levels are appropriate for programming social robot applications. We explore this through the iterative design and evaluation of an API for programming social robots. The results show that high level primitives, with a close mapping to social interaction, are suitable for programming social robot applications. However, the abstraction level should not be so high that it takes away too much control from programmers. This has the potential to enable programmers to produce high quality social robot applications with less programming effort. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Access to affordable medications continues to be one of the most pressing issues for the treatment of disease in developing countries. For many drugs, synthesis of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) represents the most financially important and technically demanding element of pharmaceutical operations. Furthermore, the environmental impact of API processing has been well documented and is an area of continuing interest in green chemical operations. To improve drug access and affordability, we have developed a series of core principles that can be applied to a specific API, yielding dramatic improvements in chemical efficiency. We applied these principles to nevirapine, the first non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used in the treatment of HIV. The resulting ultra-efficient (91% isolated yield) and highly-consolidated (4 unit operations) route has been successfully developed and implemented through partnerships with philanthropic entities, increasing access to this essential medication. We anticipate an even broader global health impact when applying this model to other active ingredients.
