This demo considers the construction of an image processing software system for collaborative work in networked environment. This system relies on OpenGL and its GLSL subsystem. Unfortunately, even commercial softwares use OpenGL only for rotating and zooming. Moreover, there is a feature that almost all of the image editing softwares are missing: if the distortion of the transfer curve of the printing process is known, the edited picture may be predistorted before applying the final step for linear image transfer [1]. In the case of medical pictures (e.g.: color fundus images), sharpening, edge detection, contrast enhancement, contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization, gray world normalization, histogram equalization or intensity adjustment tasks arise [2]. The speed up factor is the primary concern for the batch processing, while the software is targeted to fulfill the demands for one image in real time.

Virtually all major real-time operating systems such as QNX, VxWorks, LynxOS, and most real-time variants of Linux expose processor affinity APIs to restrict task migrations. Initially motivated by throughput and isolation reasons, the ability to flexibly control migrations on a per-task basis has also proved to be useful from a schedulability perspective. However, as the motivation to use processor affinities is highly application-specific, the two interests can conflict, i.e., the fixed, user-specified processor affinities chosen for non-schedulability reasons can actually limit any possible gains in schedulability. This paper specifically addresses the scenario where processor affinities are given as input, and investigates the following question: while maintaining API compatibility (i.e., without changing the interface exposed to the programmer), is it possible to improve schedulability beyond what Linux and Linux-like systems currently offer, without violating the original affinity restrictions? To answer this question, we explore the similarities between priority-based scheduling with processor affinities and the assignment problem with seniority and job priority constraints, studied previously by Caron et al. in an operations-research context, to derive a more generic model of migrations. Based on vertex-weighted bipartite matchings, the proposed model exploits the idea of shifting high-priority tasks among processors in their affinity set, in order to accommodate lower-priority tasks that have more constrained processor affinities. The proposed approach is analyzed with a novel shifting-aware schedulability analysis based on linear programming. An empirical evaluation in terms of schedulability shows shifting to be effective, although performance naturally degrades if migration overheads are high.

The growing ecosystem of Web APIs and IoT devices enables us to create a mashup within a short period of time. However, it is difficult to find appropriate Web APIs and IoT devices. Moreover, investigating a combination of Web APIs and IoT devices is much more difficult. The growing ecosystem enables us to achieve ideas in alternative ways, although it is difficult to find such alternative ways. We propose a recommendation system that takes the quality characteristics and such alternative ways into account. The system is implemented using a Steiner tree approximation algorithm, which can recommend a combination of Web APIs and IoT devices suitable for mashups. We tested the system in two aspects, i.e., the validity and performance of the algorithm. The validity was proved by running the system against a graph of actual Web APIs and IoT devices. The performance was proved by running the system against large graphs generated using a pseudorandom number generator. The system can output a result within 8 s against 28,200 nodes and five terminals, which is a considerably shorter time than that required by skilled developers to come up with a combination.

Intelligent APIs, such as Google Cloud Vision or Amazon Rekognition, are becoming evermore pervasive and easily accessible to developers to build applications. Because of the stochastic nature that machine learning entails and disparate datasets used in their training, the output from different APIs varies over time, with low reliability in some cases when compared against each other. Merging multiple unreliable API responses from multiple vendors may increase the reliability of the overall response, and thus the reliability of the intelligent end-product. We introduce a novel methodology - inspired by the proportional representation used in electoral systems - to merge outputs of different intelligent computer vision APIs provided by multiple vendors. Experiments show that our method outperforms both naive merge methods and traditional proportional representation methods by 0.015 F-measure.

New kinds of applications with lots of threads or irregular conununication patterns which rely a lot on point-topoint MPI communications have emerged. It stresses the MPI library with potentially a lot of simultaneous MPI requests for sending and receiving at the same lime. To deal with large numbers of simultaneous requests, the bottleneck lies in two main mechanisms: the tag-matching (the algorithm that matches an incoming packet with a posted receive request), and the progression engine. In this paper, we propose algorithms and implementations that overconw, these issues so as to scale up to thousands of requests if needed. In particular our algorithms are able to perform constant-time tag-matching even with any-source and any-tag support. We have implemented these mechanisms in our New-Madeleine communication library. Through micro-benchmarks and computation kernel benchmarks, we demonstrate that our MPI library exhibits better performance than state-of-the-art MPI implementations in cases with many simultaneous requests.

Indian subcontinent is diverse with several spoken languages in use and a wide range in literacy levels of the inhabitants. In this scenario, speech recognition based solution fits best to enable all strata of population access information. While speech recognition based solutions in the Western countries have moved into commercial use, they are far from being used in Indian scenario, mainly due to lack of language resources. Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) for Indian languages, including Indian English for India specific conditions is still maturing. In this paper, we show how existing resources can be effectively reused, to build usable speech based solution for resource deficient languages. We specifically employ PocketSphinx and Google Speech API to evaluate our ideas.

Developers often release different versions of their applications to support various platform/programming-language application programming interfaces (APIs). To migrate an application written using one API (source) to another API (target), a developer must know how the methods in the source API map to the methods in the target API. Given a typical platform or language exposes a large number of API methods, manually writing API mappings is prohibitively resource-intensive and may be error prone. Recently, researchers proposed to automate the mapping process by mining API mappings from existing code-bases. However, these approaches require as input a manually ported (or at least functionally similar) code across source and target APIs. To address the shortcoming, this paper proposes TMAP: Text Mining based approach to discover likely API mappings using the similarity in the textual description of the source and target API documents. To evaluate our approach, we used TMAP to discover API mappings for 15 classes across: 1) Java and C# API, and 2) Java ME and Android API. We compared the discovered mappings with state-of-the-art source code analysis based approaches: Rosetta and StaMiner. Our results indicate that TMAP on average found relevant mappings for 57% more methods compared to previous approaches. Furthermore, our results also indicate that TMAP on average found exact mappings for 6.5 more methods per class with a maximum of 21 additional exact mappings for a single class as compared to previous approaches.
