Sequential models which analyze system API calls have shown promise for detecting unknown malware. Athiwaratkun and Stokes recently proposed a two-stage model which uses a long short-term memory (LSTM) model for learning a set of features which are then input to a second classifier. Kolosnjaji et al., first use a convolutional neural network followed by an LSTM to predict unknown malware. However, neither of these models consider the parameters which are input to the system API calls. These input parameters offer significant information regarding malicious intent. In this paper, we extend Athiwaratkun's model to include each system API call's two most input parameters. We then show that the proposed model dominates these previously proposed models in terms of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

The paper considers the development of modules that allow to work with data using automated methods for processing and analyzing information on urban infrastructure with use of a single work procedure. The main contribution of this paper is the proposed methods for collecting and initial processing of information on infrastructure and real estate objects using different resources and technologies for extracting information. Also, the paper deals with the algorithm of interaction with the API of the Russian state site “ReformaGKH” and management of obtained data. Key software solutions for building the multiservice informational and analytical online platform of integrated geospatial data processing to support decision-making on urban areas development are described.

Dealing with the evolution of operating systems is challenging for developers of mobile apps, who have to deal with frequent upgrades that often include backward incompatible changes of the underlying API framework. As a consequence of framework upgrades, apps may show misbehaviours and unexpected crashes once executed within an evolved environment. Identifying the portion of the app that must be modified to correctly execute on a newly released operating system can be challenging. Although incompatibilities are visibile at the level of the interactions between the app and its execution environment, the actual methods to be changed are often located in classes that do not directly interact with any external element. To facilitate debugging activities for problems introduced by backward incompatible upgrades of the operating system, this paper presents FILO, a technique that can recommend the method that must be changed to implement the fix from the analysis of a single failing execution. FILO can also select key symptomatic anomalous events that can help the developer understanding the reason of the failure and facilitate the implementation of the fix. Our evaluation with multiple known compatibility problems introduced by Android upgrades shows that FILO can effectively and efficiently identify the faulty methods in the apps.

Mobile application development has emerged as one of the most focused areas in software industry due to exponential growth of mobile users and applications. The focus of the current mobile industry is on direct implementation, rather than analysis and design. Model-driven engineering practices are ignored, which results in low reusability and lack of portability along with other challenges. In addition, mobile applications also have to support multiple platforms, as an application written for one platform (e.g., Android) cannot run on another platform (e.g., Windows Phone). Each of the platforms in turn suffers from fragmentation. This results in multiple versions of an application that need to be simultaneously maintained. This is a huge burden on the development team, both in terms of cost and effort, due to various platforms that an application supports. This paper proposes a model-driven approach to generate mobile applications for multiple platforms. We carefully identify a subset of UML and propose a modeling methodology for this purpose. We use real use-cases for requirement gathering, class diagram for structural modeling, while state machine are used for behavioral modeling. We focus on modeling business logic layer for the mobile application. We also propose a UML profile for modeling mobile domain specific concepts. Our approach uses Action Language for Foundational Subset of UML (ALF) to specify actions in the state machines. Our approach allows the modeler to automatically generate business logic code for multiple platforms. The approach is supported by an automated tool MAG (Mobile application Generator). We apply our model-driven approach on an industrial case study 'Scramble' app developed by 'Next In' to demonstrate its viability.

Facebook, the most popular and largest Online Social Network (OSN) is a virtual community where people interact and connect with each other by creating a profile and share opinions and interests in different ways. In recent years, we have witnessed a massive participation of people in these communities which has resulted in the generation and availability of large volumes of personal and sensitive data in the public domain. Public disclosure of this information has exaggerated worries about the loss of privacy. In this work, we study the exposure and pattern of information disclosure of user-profiles on Facebook to understand how secure and private the personal profile information is. To do so, we extracted the public profile information of 134K Facebook users and examined the same in terms of disclosure of information and privacy loss. Most of the personal information is permissive by default to external entities by Facebook. Although a user has the provision of customizing privacy controls to make the information restricted to his neighborhood. Our findings depict that most of the users have remained unaware of these privacy controls as we see a large volume of profile information is in the public domain. We conducted a statistical analysis of the user profile data to understand the type of information disclosed by most of the users. We also carried out a gender-wise and age-distribution analysis on the extracted data. Furthermore, we have also discussed an alternative approach to Facebook's Graph application programming Interface (API) for obtaining profile data.

application programming interface (API) plays an important role in modern software development, a well designed API can provide tremendous convenience for developers. However, designing an excellent API is not a trivial task, each field in the API should avoid any ambiguity. Besides, in some special cases, for instance, a Chinese developer might not accurately translate the meaning of a Chinese API field into its English counterpart. Therefore, there exists a tremendous requirement in designing high quality API field. In this paper, a fine-tuning pre-trained model based method is proposed for API field design task. Firstly, we consider the design of API fields as a translation task, converting the fields from another language into English. Secondly, we fine-tune a pre-trained model for API field design task. In the end, we curate two datasets to illustrate our method and the experiment results demonstrate that our method has a better performance in designing API field.

Mobile applications require quality assurance approaches tailored to their peculiarities, such as context awareness and platform diversity. Furthermore, time limitations and budget restrictions in mobile application development are typical characteristics that need to be addressed. In a prior work, we proposed the usage of a mobile-specific failure pattern classification to focus quality assurance of mobile applications in order to achieve higher quality assurance effectiveness. In this contribution, we evaluate whether the proposed classification is reliable with regard to its effectiveness for finding quality issues, its completeness in terms of fault and failure classes, and its adequacy when used in a methodological approach. To this aim, we performed three experimental studies: a survey consulting experts of this field, a case study performed in industry, and project comparisons performed by analyzing issue tickets of several open-source mobile application projects. The overall results showed that the classification is reliable due to its effectiveness in finding failures of mobile applications during testing. However, each evaluation phase identified several possible extensions, which were added right after each evaluation study. Besides, the classification was confirmed as being well structured for use as part of a methodological approach.

From a neurocentric perspective, H. sapiens-generated technology can be seen as our neocortex - primarily the prefrontal and sensorimotor cortices - extending and augmenting our physiological perceptual and motor structures by projecting itself into the external environment. Moreover, given our brain-based creation and subjective ranking of ideational importance, the emerging capability to directly enhance neurocognitive functionality presents a singularly foundational scientific and technological undertaking. Here I propose Exocortical Cognition (ECC) - a transdisciplinary augmented cognition framework based on a review of the literature, accelerating progress in and convergence of a range of independent areas of science and technology, and the application of technology forecasting techniques. If realized, Exocortical Cognition would significantly enhance human cognitive function and memory capacity while bridging the often-presumed gap between human and future machine intelligence.

Aperture is an open, adaptable and extensible Web 2.0 visualization framework, designed to produce visualizations for analysts and decision makers in any common web browser. Aperture utilizes a novel layer based approach to visualization assembly, and a data mapping API that simplifies the process of adaptable transformation of data and analytic results into visual forms and properties. This common visual layer and data mapping API, combined with core elements such as contextually derivable color palettes, layout and symbol ontology services is designed to enable highly creative and expressive visual analytics, rapidly and with less effort. This paper introduces the Aperture framework, describing key features of the programming API and reference implementation, presents example use cases, and proposes an approach for measuring technical performance metrics for software development, and operational performance metrics for visualization support of analysis and decision making.
