Real-time analysis and predictability of the health functional food market using big data

This study conducted a real-time analysis of the health functional food market using big data. To assess the scope of big data in market analysis, big data of the health food category were compared and analyzed with actual market data. Data were first collected using a program to obtain data, through application programming interfaces, followed by SPSS to compare and analyze the actual market index and shopping search word data. The correlation between the online search data and the actual market was high, indicating that online search data can be used to predict the trend of the actual market. Various types of data, such as items and major functional ingredients, can be collected and analyzed through the program developed for this study, which is also used to predict the market trend. The results demonstrate how APIs can be used to predict market size in the food industry effectively.

Transport Services: A Modern API for an Adaptive Internet Transport Layer

Transport services (TAPS) is a working group of the the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). TAPS defines a new recommended API for the Internet's transport layer. This API gives access to a wide variety of services from various protocols, and it is protocol-independent: the transport layer becomes adaptive, and applications are no longer statically bound to a particular protocol and/or network interface. We give an overview of the TAPS API, and we demonstrate its flexibility and ease of use with an example using a Python-based open source implementation.

Fancier: A Unified Framework for Java, C, and OpenCL Integration

Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have evolved from very specialized designs geared towards computer graphics to accommodate general-purpose highly-parallel workloads. Harnessing the performance that these accelerators provide requires the use of specialized native programming interfaces, such as CUDA or OpenCL, or higher-level programming models like OpenMP or OpenACC. However, on managed programming languages, offloading execution into GPUs is much harder and error-prone, mainly due to the need to call through a native API (application programming Interface), and because of mismatches between value and reference semantics. The Fancier framework provides a unified interface to Java, C/C++, and OpenCL C compute kernels, together with facilities to smooth the transitions between these programming languages. This combination of features makes GPU acceleration on Java much more approachable. In addition, Fancier Java code can be directly translated into equivalent C/C++ or OpenCL C code easily, which simplifies the implementation of higher-level abstractions targeting GPU or parallel execution on Java. Furthermore, it reduces the programming effort without adding significant overhead on top of the necessary OpenCL and Java Native Interface (JNI) API calls. We validate our approach on several image processing workloads running on different Android devices.

In modern geolocation practices, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have effectively addressed positioning challenges in open-sky environments. However, the recent rise in jamming and spoofing incidents, along with intrinsic limitations of GNSS, particularly in GNSS-challenged or denied environments, has highlighted the need for alternative positioning solutions. Under such conditions, GNSS accuracy can degrade significantly, with real-time positioning errors ranging from a few meters to several tens of meters. Additionally, generating reliable ground truth in these environments is often difficult, which limits validation and development of alternative systems. To improve positioning accuracy in environments where GNSS signals are unreliable, landmark-based positioning methods offer a viable solution. These methods leverage the known coordinates of visible landmarks to improve location *** study evaluates Google’s Visual Positioning System (VPS), a cloud-based service designed to provide precise localization using smartphones. Accessible via the Google Cloud API (application programming Interface), VPS operates by uploading images captured by smartphones, along with approximate positional data, to Google's servers. The servers then match these images against its vast Google Street View database. Under favorable conditions, such as the presence of distinctive landmarks and high-quality imagery, VPS can achieve sub-meter level accuracy, surpassing traditional GNSS methods, even when augmented by additional sensors. This research investigates the ability of self-propagating malware to detect network redirection, a technique that reroutes malicious traffic to a controlled environment for analysis. We hypothesized that malware programs might use round-trip time (RTT) as a signal to detect redirection. To test this, we executed a large dataset of malware samples in a controlled environment and analyzed their behavior, measured by application programming interface (API) call patterns. Our results indicate that the malware samples were not sensitive to network redirection, as there were no significant differences in their behavior between redirected and nonredirected scenarios. These findings suggest that network redirection remains a valuable tool for analyzing malicious traffic, even in the face of potential evasion techniques.

With the advent of QR Codes, mobile devices, and computers, users can exchange information quickly but not se-curely. QR Codes-based attacks are rising rapidly, threatening the trust of this extensively used technology. Whether you use it at a restaurant, conference, or payment station, QR Codes inherently rely on user trust to safeguard transactions. Phishing scams using fake codes have increased by over 50%, while using QR vector malware attacks have increased by over 2400% since 2020 [3]–[5]. These alarming results suggest that integrity protections must be reinstated to restore public trust. This research addresses these challenges by leveraging Artificial intelligence (AI) and third-party services to detect QR Codes-based threats. We propose a Secure QR Codes system employing anomaly detection, risk signaling, and four machine-learning models trained on standard and malicious QR Codes. Using encryption engines, AI-based predictions, application programming Interface (API), proxy services, and AI assessment modules, the integrated solution identified over 96% simulated real-world attacks like phishing, exfiltration, injection, and code execution. Our approach detects QR Codes with modified structures. It provides a practical, non-proprietary, web-deployable solution to predict and mitigate these threats, restoring trust in QR Codes systems across various applications.

This paper presents the BicopShield, a novel, opensource educational device developed within the AutomationShield initiative to support hands-on learning in control engineering. It allows students to explore key concepts from control theory, such as system identification and feedback control, through a mechatronic bicopter system. Featuring a low-cost, replicable design with off-the-shelf components and 3D-printed parts, BicopShield is suitable for classroom and take-home applications. The device's application programming interface (API) is available in C/C++ for Arduino IDE, and for MATLAB/Simulink. This paper details the BicopShield's design, API, and sample exercises, demonstrating its use in reinforcing theoretical knowledge through practical application.

Domain-driven design (DDD) is often applied when implementing microservices or communicating through APIs in distributed systems. APIs expose a published language that provides a view on entire domain models or subsets of such models. Hence, tactical DDD patterns such as Aggregate, Service, and Entity may not only structure API implementations, but also guide API specification work. In our previous work, we described endpoint-level patterns for this context. In this paper, we present three complementary patterns, namely Aggregated Domain Operation on API Endpoint, Event-Based API Endpoint Operation, and CRUD-Based API Operation. These patterns aim to derive API operations from the operations of Domain Services and Entities as well as Domain Events. We also discuss variants of these patterns, such as their combination with the patterns Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) and Publish/Subscribe. Our pattern mining work is based on a data set from an empirical study of 32 grey literature sources investigating practitioner views on deriving API designs from DDD models.

Microservices architecture is a promising approach for developing reusable scientific workflow capabilities for integrating diverse resources, such as experimental and observational instruments and advanced computational and data management systems, across many distributed organizations and facilities. In this paper, we describe how the INTERSECT Open Architecture leverages federated systems of microservices to construct interconnected science ecosystems, review how the INTERSECT software development kit eases microservice capability development, and demonstrate the use of such capabilities for deploying an example multi-facility INTERSECT ecosystem.

Objective: Integrated, real-time data are crucial to evaluate translational efforts to accelerate innovation into care. Too often, however, needed data are fragmented in disparate systems. The South Carolina Clinical & Translational Research Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) developed and implemented a universal study identifier-the Research Master Identifier (RMID)-for tracking research studies across disparate systems and a data warehouse-inspired model-the Research Integrated Network of Systems (RINS)-for integrating data from those systems. Materials and Methods: In 2017, MUSC began requiring the use of RMIDs in informatics systems that support human subject studies. We developed a web-based tool to create RMIDs and application programming interfaces to synchronize research records and visualize linkages to protocols across systems. Selected data from these disparate systems were extracted and merged nightly into an enterprise data mart, and performance dashboards were created to monitor key translational processes. Results: Within 4 years, 5513 RMIDs were created. Among these were 726 (13%) bridged systems needed to evaluate research study performance, and 982 (18%) linked to the electronic health records, enabling patientlevel reporting. Discussion: Barriers posed by data fragmentation to assessment of program impact have largely been eliminated at MUSC through the requirement for an RMID, its distribution via RINS to disparate systems, and mapping of system-level data to a single integrated data mart. Conclusion: By applying data warehousing principles to federate data at the "study" level, the RINS project reduced data fragmentation and promoted research systems integration.
