We demonstrate the advantages of using geometry-based high-order finite element approximations for the solution of dispersion-dominant wave-dependent problems like structuralacoustics. Our approach uses an hp-finite-element framework that is tightly coupled to a geometry-based system for curved mesh generation, adaptation and analysis attribution. This enables robust automation of the entire solution process with minimal manual intervention. We give examples involving the structural-acoustics response of three-dimensional visco-elastic structures and show that high-order methods provide significantly higher accuracy per unit computational cost, including wall-clock time and memory needs, when compared to low-order approximations. Our results show that a high-order approximation can match the solution accuracy of a low-order approximation using 43 times fewer unknown degrees-of-freedom. We also highlight the critical role of accurate geometry representation to achieve these gains.

Conventional computing systems require some form of an OS or kernel to run applications. These include minimal OSs and small kernels such as tiny Linux kernels, and embedded OSs. In a bare machine computing (BMC) system there is no OS or kernel, thus enabling applications to be completely self-supporting while eliminating OS vulnerabilities and overhead. These applications, which are currently written in C/C++ with some assembly code, run on desktops or laptops with Intel x86 CPUs, and integrate the necessary BMC software and hardware interfaces. This paper provides internal details of several such BMC interfaces showing how they are designed, implemented and integrated with OS-independent applications. BMC interfaces could he adapted in future for use in database servers for Big Data applications, controllers for software defined networking, and IoT devices or smart phones with a view towards improving security and performance.

Web-based technologies for teaching and using molecular simulation

Computing power and molecular simulation methodology have improved dramatically over the past decade, and for some systems molecular models are reaching a point where they can provide information that approaches or surpasses the quality of real experimental data. Molecular simulation can also be a potent tool for developing qualitative understanding, and this feature suggests widespread use of molecular simulation as a tool for teaching. Broader use of molecular simulation for these purposes requires tools that promote understanding and application of simulation software. We present an "object-oriented" view of molecular simulation that can help conceptualize and organize its elements, and discuss software development tools that we have constructed that enable non-experts in simulation or graphical programming to create instructive molecular simulations. We finish with an example of one such simulation applet, which we have used in the classroom. Tools described here are available on the web at ***/etomica. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Robotic process automation has been maturing with significant speed and organizations that started using RPA during the past years now automate the "low hanging fruit" with the best return on investment. The organizations strive to utilize RPA to get a higher value. However, the deployment of RPA on multiple processes is complex and demanding in terms of costs and resources. In this research, we focused on the reduction of the RPA bot duration by using the applications' API in the RPA automation. We compared the duration of RPA bots on three processes. The three processes were automated with RPA technology via GUI and also via API. The results indisputably show that using API in RPA automation has a positive impact on its duration. RPA bot using API was, in some cases, ten times faster than RPA bot using GUI. The average duration change of using API against GUI was in the interval from 84.01% to 91.87%. This change shows the enormous acceleration of RPA bot and the impactful benefits of the use of API in RPA automation of processes. We may thus conclude that API is a good complement to RPA automation. RPA developers and RPA architects should use API when it is possible for better utilization of RPA robots.

The concept of programmable nodes and active networks introduces programmability into communication networks. Code and data can be sent and modified on their ways to destinations. Recently, various research groups have designed and implemented their own execution platforms for active networks. Each design has its own benefits and drawbacks. Hence, there exist interoperability problems among them. Therefore in this paper, we introduce a concept that is similar to the socket programming for writing network programs. A set of simple interfaces, the Active Network Socket programming (ANSP), for programming active applications is established. The resulting active applications will be able to work on top of all other execution environments in future. The ANSP offers a concept that is similar to 'write once, run everywhere.' It is an open programming model that active applications can work on all execution environments. It solves the heterogeneity within the active networks. This is especially useful when active applications need to access all regions within a heterogeneous network to deploy special service at critical points or to monitor the performance of the entire networks. Instead of introducing a new platform, our approach provides a thin, transparent layer on top of existing environments that can be easily installed for all active applications. Automatically recommending API-related tutorial fragments or Q& A pairs from Stack Overflow (SO) is very helpful for developers, especially when they need to use unfamiliar APIs to complete programming tasks. However, in practice developers are more likely to express the API-related questions using natural language when they do not know the exact name of an unfamiliar API. In this paper, we propose an approach, called SOTU, to automatically find answers for API-related natural language questions (NLQs) from tutorials and SO. We first identify relevant API-related tutorial fragments and extract API-related Q& A pairs from SO. We then construct an API-Answer corpus by combining these two sources of information. For an API-related NLQ given by the developer, we parse it into several potential APIs and then retrieve potential answers from the API-Answer corpus. Finally, we return a list of potential results ranked by their relevancy. Experiments on API-Answer corpus demonstrate the effectiveness of SOTU.

Robotic technologies for inspection purposes of large-scale structures have grown in interest. Such technologies are encouraged to reduce the risk in which human operators are involved and to reduce costs due to downtime of the equipment. In the Energy sector, high interest is placed on powerplant components where their correct operation is paramount. Inspired in the synthetic vision systems for aerial vehicles that use three-dimensional space (3D) to provide pilots with clear and intuitive means of understanding their flying environment, here we propose the use of the 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) model of structural components of a power plant to define an off-line flight path for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This method is feasible to implement because nowadays the CAD model of structural elements is readily available. Since this work focuses on structural inspection, only the surface characteristics of the model are required. To acquire, analyze and process the 3D model, first, the STL file is produced to obtain surface points and vectors normal to the surface. Later, by introducing other variables such as wall offset and controlled trajectory between each outline and each subsequent layer, the flight path is generated. This method would support efforts where the UAV is required to fly with no GPS available and/or beyond line of sight (BLOS). The effort was conducted using the MATLAB software and the multiple processes involved are discussed in detail. The final trajectory was validated using the Gazebo simulator which employs robust kinematic and dynamic models.

Ontologies define data organization and meaning in Knowledge Graphs (KGs). However, ontologies have generally not been taken into account when designing and generating application programming interfaces (APIs) to allow developers to consume KG data in a developer-friendly way. To fill this gap, this work proposes a method for API generation based on the artefacts generated during the ontology development process. This method is described as part of a new phase, called ontology exploitation, that may be included in the last stages of the traditional ontology development methodologies. Moreover, to support some of the tasks of the proposed method, we developed OATAPI, a tool that generates APIs from two ontology artefacts: the competency questions and the ontology serialization. The conclusions of this work reflect that the limitations found in the state-of-the-art have been addressed both at the methodological and tooling levels for the generation of APIs based on ontology artefacts. Finally, the lines of future work present several challenges that need to be addressed so that the potential of KGs and ontologies can be more easily exploited by application developers.

A flight is considered to be delayed when it arrives 15 or more minutes later than scheduled. Delays attributed to the National Airspace System are one of the most common type of delays. Such delays may be caused by Traffic Management Initiatives (TMI) such as Ground Stops (GS), issued at affected airports. Ground Stops are implemented to control air traffic volume to specific airports where the projected traffic demand is expected to exceed the airports' acceptance rate over a short period of time due to conditions such as inclement weather, volume constraints, closed runways, etc. Ground Stops can be considered to be the strictest Traffic Management Initiative (TMI), particularly because all flights destined to affected airports are grounded until conditions improve. Efforts have been made over the years to reduce the impact of Traffic Management Initiatives on airports and flight operations. However, these efforts have largely focused on other Traffic Management Initiatives such as Ground Delay Programs (GDP), due to their frequency and duration compared to Ground Stops. Limited work has also been carried out on Ground Stops because of the limited amount of time that traffic management personnel often have between planning and implementing Ground Stops and external factors that influence decisions of traffic management personnel. Consequently, this research primarily focuses on the prediction of weather-related Ground Stops at Newark Liberty International (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) airports, with the secondary goal of gaining insights into factors that influence their occurrence. It is expected that this research will provide stakeholders with further insights into factors that influence the occurrence of weather-related Ground Stops at both airports. This is achieved by benchmarking Machine Learning algorithms in order to identify the best suited algorithm(s) for the prediction models, and identifying and analyzing key factors that influence the occurrence of wea
