We consider a class of fractional evolution equations with nonlocal integral conditions in Banach spaces. New existence of mild solutions to such a problem are established using Schauder fixed-point theorem, diagonal argument and approximation techniques under the hypotheses that the nonlinear term is Caratheodory continuous and satisfies some weak growth condition, the nonlocal term depends on all the value of independent variable on the whole interval and satisfies some weak growth condition. This work may be viewed as an attempt to develop a general existence theory for fractional evolution equations with general nonlocal integral conditions. Finally, as a sample of application, the results are applied to a fractional parabolic partial differential equation with nonlocal integral condition. The results obtained in this paper essentially extend some existing results in this area.

A finite element method with mesh-separation-based approximation technique and its application in modeling crack propagation with adaptive mesh refinement

This paper presents a FEM with mesh-separation-based approximation technique that separates a standard element into three geometrically independent elements. A dual mapping scheme is introduced to couple them seamlessly and to derive the element approximation. The novel technique makes it very easy for mesh generation of problems with complex or solution-dependent, varying geometry. It offers a flexible way to construct displacement approximations and provides a unified framework for the FEM to enjoy some of the key advantages of the Hansbo and Hansbo method, the meshfree methods, the semi-analytical FEMs, and the smoothed FEM. For problems with evolving discontinuities, the method enables the devising of an efficient crack-tip adaptive mesh refinement strategy to improve the accuracy of crack-tip fields. Both the discontinuities due to intra-element cracking and the incompatibility due to hanging nodes resulted from the element refinement can be treated at the elemental level. The effectiveness and robustness of the present method are benchmarked with several numerical examples. The numerical results also demonstrate that a high precision integral scheme is critical to pass the crack patch test, and it is essential to apply local adaptive mesh refinement for low fracture energy problems. Fractional-order active disturbance rejection repetitive control for fractional-order systems

This paper investigates the problem of fractional-order active disturbance rejection repetitive control (FADRRC) for a class of fractional-order systems with unknown external disturbances. The proposed controller enhances the robustness and tracking performance of the classical active disturbance rejection control, especially for the periodic reference signals. A fractional-order extended state observer (FESO) is first incorporated into the repetitive controller to estimate both the fractional-order system state and the unknown external disturbances. Next, the linear bandwidth-parameterization method is used to tune the parameters of both the controller gain and the gain of the observer. Then, the design problem of the FADRRC law is transformed into the stability problem of the fractional-order system. Sufficient stability conditions are derived in terms of the small gain theorem. Finally, numerical simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

On Some Weighted 1-Laplacian Problem on R^N with Singular Behavior at the Origin

In this work, we prove the existence of a nontrivial solution to a quasilinear elliptic problem defined on the whole Euclidean space R-N, N >= 2, and involving a weighted 1-Laplacian operator. The nonlinear term has a singular behavior at the origin. This solution is obtained through an approximation technique, which consists in considering the problem with the 1-Laplacian operator as a limit of a family of problems with the p-Laplacian operators when p -> 1(+). For that aim, a new version of Anzellotti's L-infinity-divergence-measure pairing theory is established and new arguments are used.

Companies depend on mining data to grow their business more than ever. To achieve optimal performance of Big Data analytics workloads, a careful configuration of the cluster and the employed software framework is required. The lack of flexible and accurate performance models, however, render this a challenging task. This article fills this gap by presenting accurate performance prediction models based on Stochastic Activity Networks (SANs). In contrast to existing work, the presented models consider multiple work queues, a critical feature to achieve high accuracy in realistic usage scenarios. We first introduce a monolithic analytical model for a multi-queue YARN cluster running DAG-based Big Data applications that models each queue individually. To overcome the limited scalability of the monolithic model, we then present a fixed-point model that iteratively computes the throughput of a single queue with respect to the rest of the system until a fixed-point is reached. The models are evaluated on a real-world cluster running the widely-used Apache Spark framework and the YARN scheduler. Experiments with the common transaction-based TPC-DS benchmark show that the proposed models achieve an average error of only $5.6\%$5.6% in predicting the execution time of the Spark jobs. The presented models enable businesses to optimize their cluster configuration for a given workload and thus to reduce their expenses and minimize service level agreement (SLA) violations. Makespan minimization and per-stage analysis are examined as representative efforts to further assess the applicability of our proposition.

A new approach to analyze the equilibrium and transient behaviors of particulate systems and the subsequent application to multiphase fluid systems

Fast and robust computation for population balance models is a crucial requirement for simulating particulate systems. Despite all the recent advances in developing relevant computational algorithms, either efficiency or robustness can only be achieved at the expense of the other. However, optimal compromise is possible by having prior estimates of the system's internal length and time scales. Thus, an approximation technique is introduced in this study to extract equilibrium and transient behaviors for a particulate system considering coalescence and breakage phenomena. The approximation method is developed by simplifying assumptions on the available analytical solution for a spatially homogeneous population balance equation with simple kernels. The derived equilibrium and transient equations suggest that the system is governed by a dimensionless group that can describe the equilibrium distribution of the system as well as the rate and the direction that the system is likely to evolve. The method is applied to two different sets of complex breakage and coalescence kernels used for liquid-liquid dispersed systems. The approximated time and length scales were validated with numerical results;thus, the approximation can be used to generate targeted element-based orthogonal collocation grids for fast and robust computation of transient and steady-state particulate systems. This approach can significantly decrease the computation time, typically by 40-70 % for steady-state conditions.(c) 2022 The Authors. Modelling the transmission behavior of measles disease considering contaminated environment through a fractal-fractional Mittag-Leffler kernel

This work utilises a fractal-fractional operator to examine the dynamics of transmission of measles disease. The existence and uniqueness of the measles model have been thoroughly examined in the context of the fixed point theorem, specifically utilising the Atangana-Baleanu fractal and fractional operators. The model has been demonstrated to possess both Hyers-Ulam stability and Hyers-Ulam Rassias stability. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis of the model was performed, including examination of key parameters such as the fundamental reproduction number, the measles-free and measles-present equilibria, and assessment of global stability. This research has shown that the transmission of measles disease is affected by natural phenomena, as changes in the fractal-fractional order lead to changes in the disease dynamics. Furthermore, environmental contamination has been shown to play a significant role in the transmission of the measles disease.

Multi-objective Bi-Level Optimization Problem (MBLOP) is defined as a mathematical program where one multi-objective optimization task is constrained with another one. In this way, the evaluation of a single upper level solution necessitates the evaluation of the whole lower level problem. This fact brings new complexities to the bi-level framework, added to the conflicting objectives and their evaluation which need a large number of Function Evaluations (FEs). Despite the number of works dedicated to solve bi-level optimization problems, the number of methods applied to the multi-objective combinatorial case is much reduced. Motivated by these observations, we propose in this paper an approximation-based version of our recently proposed Bi-level Multi-objective Chemical Reaction Optimization (BMCRO), which we called BMCROII. The approximation technique is adopted here as a surrogate to the lower level leading then to generate efficiently the lower level optimality. Our choice is justified by two main arguments. First, BMCRO applies a Quick Non-Dominated Sorting Algorithm (Q-NDSA) with quasi-linear computational time complexity. Second, the number of FEs savings gained by the approximation technique can hugely improve the whole efficiency of the method. The proposed algorithm is applied to a new multi-objective formulation of the well-known Bi-level Multi Depot Vehicle Routing Problem (BMDVRP). The statistical analysis demonstrates the outperformance of our algorithm compared to prominent baseline algorithms available in literature. Indeed, a large number of savings are detected which confirms the merits of our proposal for solving such type of NP-hard problems.

Resource allocation in power domain NOMA-based cooperative multicell networks

In this paper, we propose a novel resource allocation scheme for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based cooperative cellular networks where in each cell, two pairs of transmitter-receiver want to communicate via the base station (BS) which serves as a decode-and-forward (DF) relay. In the first hop, the transmitters simultaneously transmit their information and the BS applies joint decoding method. The BS transmits the received information towards the receivers based on NOMA technique. The receivers apply the successive interference cancellation (SIC) where the SIC ordering of receivers is determined based on the direct channel gain. We formulate the resource allocation problem as an optimization problem which is non-convex. To tackle the non-convexity, we adopt the successive convex approximation (SCA) with difference of two concave functions (D.C.) as the approximation technique. We also study the computational complexity of our proposed scheme. Finally, we study the performance of our scheme by simulations and compare it with existing transmission schemes like the orthogonal frequency multiple access (OFDMA) and the case where both of the first hop and the second hop adopt PD-NOMA as well as the case where a special sort of subcarrier pairing is performed between the first and second hops.
