architecture modeling, simulation, and test verification are performed to meet the requirements of multi-domain modeling and simulation of tractor power shift transmission (PST). The principles of architecture modeling and high level architecture (HLA) are analyzed, and the PST architecture modeling connotation and simulation system structure are studied. Then the dynamic principles of PST mechanical, hydraulic and control subsystems are analyzed in the preparation phase, sliding friction phase and holding phase of clutch engagement. To build the PST system simulation model, the simulation models and components of the three subsystems are established, and the object and interaction classes of the simulation object model (SOM) for each component are defined. After that, the parameter mapping relationship between the components is analyzed, the interfaces between the simulation components and HLA are encapsulated, and the simulation component running sequence is analyzed. Finally, the PST clutch engagement law under tractor shift conditions is simulated and tested. The relative error and correlation coefficient between the simulated and test data of shift solenoid valve drive current are used as indexes to evaluate the PST system simulation model. The results show that the simulated drive current curves are consistent with the test ones. The maximum error between the simulated and test shift time appears at the third gear downshift point, with a value of 7.89%, and the minimum correlation coefficient value between the simulated and the test drive current at all shift points is 0.92, which indicate that the PST system simulation model is effective and accurate.

This paper presents a new collection of architecture modeling software analytics for identification of common errors and omissions committed by both new and experienced users of model-based engineering tools. These analytics are based on architecture modeling heuristics that have been gained through the author's past 15 years of modeling experience and practice, and are novel in that they can be expressed in a multitude of conceptual modeling languages making them modeling tool-agnostic. The analytics enable students and practitioners to quickly and automatically identify typical architecture model properties impacting model quality and maturity and correct them, enabling time formerly spent on the labor-intensive and error-prone chore of manually finding and fixing the issues to be reinvested in more advanced tasks, such as conducting verification and validation of the design described by the model. The paper includes some examples, a summary of conclusions, and next steps towards improving and deploying these analytics to relieve more humans of the manually intense labor of checking models for properties that impact quality and maturity.

SAMM: an architecture modeling methodology for ship command and control systems

Ship command and control systems (SCCSs) are composed of large-scale, complex, real-time and software-intensive systems that complete tasks collaboratively. Open architecture has been introduced to design the architecture of SCCSs and has been refined into functional architecture (FA) and technical architecture (TA) to meet architectural requirements such as adapting fast-speed functional and technical changes. Thereby, specifying the architecture of SCCSs, based on FA and TA, becomes a key issue for stakeholders of the domain. In this paper, we propose an architecture modeling methodology (named as SAMM) for describing the architecture of SCCSs. SAMM is derived by following a systematic and generic framework-modeling Goal, domain-specific Conceptual model, architecture Viewpoint, and architecture description Language (GCVL), which guides domain experts to devise domain-specific architecture modeling methodologies of large-scale software-intensive systems. SAMM contains three viewpoints and 22 models, and a UML/SysML-based architecture description language. An industrial application of SAMM, along with the subsequent application of the derived SAMM architecture model (i.e., a deployed SCCS prototype) was conducted to evaluate SAMM. A questionnaire-based survey was also conducted to subjectively evaluate whether SAMM meets the modeling goals and its applicability. Results show that SAMM meets all modeling goals and is easy to apply.

A new approach to image-based realistic architecture modeling with featured solid library

To overcome restrictions of present modeling techniques, and to approach quick and convenient 3D architecture modeling, we present a realistic modeling system on the basis of a featured solid library. The system incorporates reference library techniques to build up realistic models from a single image. In our approach, parameterized solid components are mapped to 2D featured projection graphs on image plane, and matching features of all component graphs with the resource image results in 3D realistic scene, whether complex or irregular. Besides, a suite of texture toolkit is implemented to rectify flaws of texture mapping and to enhance modeling reality. Our approach works feasibly and robustly with single-vision images taken from arbitrary view angles, and the efficiency of our approach is proved in systematic modeling experiments. As our approach complemented image-based modeling techniques in construction CAD and digital city systems, it could be of popular use in relevant modeling software. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. A multi-layered approach to product architecture modeling: Applied to technology prototypes

Companies that wish to include novel technology in the product portfolio may need to test and evaluate the technology with the use of prototypes to learn its benefits. Without clear knowledge of the benefits of the technology to the products in the portfolio, in the form of increased performance, added functions, or material savings, the prototype development can be hard to manage. In this article, two contributions are made. The first adds to the vocabulary of prototyping, defining technology prototype, a prototype used for testing a novel technology in the context of an existing product. The second is a tool to model and manage technology prototypes: the Technology Prototype Product architecture Tool (TePPAT). The TePPAT is a product architecture tool with three main sections: Purpose, Concept, and architecture. The TePPAT was tested in four industry cases, all part of a public-private partnership project to support the development of technology prototypes using electro-active polymer transducer technology. The findings showed that the TePPAT supported the development teams in the four cases. It is concluded that the TePPAT can support multidisciplinary development teams in modeling and managing technology prototypes and can be correlated with improvements in the team collaboration, communication, and development performance.

The draft international standard under development ISO 26262 describes a safety lifecycle for road vehicles and thereby influences all parts of development, production, operation and decommissioning. All systems affected by the standard, like anti-trap protection or advanced driver assistance systems, contain hierarchical electric and electronic parts. After publishing the final version, they all should be designed, assessed and documented to the demands of ISO 26262. The intercommunication structure of the distributed automotive control system, consisting of electronic control units (ECU), sensors and actuators, and functions computed by this control system, are specified by the electric and electronic architecture (EEA). In the context of the ISO 26262, the EEA contributes to the intercommunication of distributed, safety related functions plus the determination of architectures. This article discusses the impact of the standard on the EEA development and the handling of safety requirements demanded by ISO 26262 during early development phases.

Coarse-grained reconfigurable architecture (CGRA) is a promising accelerator design choice due to its high performance and power efficiency in the computation or data-intensive application domains, such as security, multimedia, digital signal processing, machine learning, and high-performance computing. CGRA consists of coarse-grained processing elements (PEs) and interconnects that determine the architecture flexibility to support different applications and also affect the performance and power efficiency significantly. Although multiple types of interconnects have been proposed, a parameterized unified model is still lacking. In this paper, we propose a flexible and scalable CGRA template with a novel interconnect model that can unify the typical neighbor-to-neighbor, switch-based, and FPGA-like interconnects. Furthermore, we present TRAM, an open-source template-based reconfigurable architecture modeling framework that integrates the Chisel-based CGRA modeling, architecture intermediate representation (IR) and Verilog generation, dataflow graph (DFG) mapping, simulation, and evaluation. The mapping flow contains graph-based placement and routing, critical-path-driven data synchronization, and simulated-annealing-based optimization. We evaluate the impacts of the rich design parameters, which demonstrate the significance of such a flexible template to facilitate architecture optimization. Compared with the related work, TRAM can achieve a 4.1x smaller DFG latency and a faster mapping speed for both the 8x8 and 16x16 CGRAs. Moreover, TRAM is able to attain an extremely high PE utilization of 94.4% on average by architecture tuning.

We present a method to recover a 3D texture-mapped architecture model from a single image. Both single image based modeling and architecture modeling are challenging problems. We handle these difficulties by employing constraints derived from shape symmetries, which are prevalent in architecture. We first present a novel algorithm to calibrate the camera from a single image by exploiting symmetry. Then a set of 3D points is recovered according to the calibration and the underlying symmetry. With these reconstructed points, the user interactively marks out components of the architecture structure, whose shapes and positions are automatically determined according to the 3D points. Lastly, we texture the 3D model according to the input image, and we enhance the texture quality at those foreshortened and occluded regions according to their symmetric counterparts. The modeling process requires only a few minutes interaction. Multiple examples are provided to demonstrate the presented method.
