In this paper, we propose and demonstrate an architecture-centric interoperability analysis method for system-of-systems (SoS). The method analyzes both the operational and technical interoperability of a SoS. We demonstrate the method by analyzing the interoperability of a SoS composed of unmanned ground and air vehicles for a notional search and rescue mission. Completion of the interoperability analysis leads to the specification of interoperability requirements on the system. The paper verified the ability of the interoperability analysis method to identify and expose interoperability challenges and to define interoperability requirements through field experiments with the SoS. The paper contributes an interoperability analysis method, which programs can use to identify and specify interoperability requirements based on an analysis of the architectural products available in the early phases of a program.

Realistic Simulation of Rice Plant

The existing research results of virtual modeling of rice plant, however, is far from perfect compared to that of other crops due to its complex structure and growth process. Techniques to visually simulate the architecture of rice plant and its growth process are presented based on the analysis of the morphological characteristics at different stages. Firstly, the simulations of geometrical shape, the bending status and the structural distortion of rice leaves are conducted. Then, by using an improved model for bending deformation, the curved patterns of panicle axis and various types of panicle branches are generated, and the spatial shape of rice panicle is therefore created. Parametric L-system is employed to generate its topological structures, and finite-state automaton is adopted to describe the development of geometrical structures. Finally, the computer visualization of three-dimensional morphologies of rice plant at both organ and individual levels is achieved. The experimental results showed that the proposed methods of modeling the three-dimensional shapes of organs and simulating the growth of rice plant are feasible and effective, and the generated three-dimensional images are realistic.

Designing security architectures (SA) that are maintained independently from the overall architecture is a well-researched and established approach for modeling the security perspective of software systems. However, this approach involves several drawbacks in the documentation of SAs. These include an increase in redundancies in the design documents, synchronization errors due to concurrent modification of separate models, and expert knowledge required to design SAs, which is a crucial constraint due to the lack of experts in the security domain. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper presents the foundations, vision, research plan, and preliminary results of a novel architecture modeling approach that aims to eliminate the necessity of designing separate SAs and support architects in modeling secure software systems. The approach establishes a guided process for tracing security requirements to the modeling elements in the architecture description. Additionally, it utilizes security properties to make design recommendations in the modeling process and separate the security-related parts of an architecture description from its other parts.

Architectural design modeling has emerged as a discipline in a complex system development. To implement early safety analysis, techniques for architectural design have been extended to concern the safety property. Various safety standard profiles, quantitative and qualitative analysis methods are proposed for assessment. However, few of them focuses on the feedback of the safety properties or analysis results on the adjustment to improve original architecture. In this paper, we present an approach to combine safety analysis with architecture modeling. First, we extend the meta-model of our architecture description language - Breeze/ADL with safety elements for design. Second, safety specifications are generated from Breeze/ADL, and then to be converted into OpenFTA for FTA (Fault Tree Analysis). Our Breeze/ADL also supports rule definitions to adjust the architecture, to cope with safety problems. Moreover, model checking will be applied to verify the correctness of the adjustment. Finally, the tool Breeze/SA demonstrates the feasibility of our approach.

Due to lack of desired model for traditional network architecture, services which are newly deployed can't be analyzed and verified quickly or efficiently. To address this problem, this paper puts forward a description method for network architectures which includes two parts: the modeling method and the formal model. First of all, we give a modeling method from the essence of the service interactions for network architecture;secondly, on the base of the modeling method, the formal model which is a description method for network architecture is provided;finally, we provide an application case with the description method. It is verified that the description method does well in the description of the network architectures and it can satisfy the need of analyzing the deploying of new services.

Temporal Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable architecture (CGRA) is a typical category of CGRA that supports single-cycle context switching and time-multiplexing hardware resources to perform both spatial and temporal computations. Compared with the spatial CGRA, it can be used in area and power budget-constrained scenarios, with the sacrifice of the throughput. Therefore, achieving minimum Initialization Interval (II) for higher throughput is the main objective in many works for temporal CGRA mapping. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper we present and evaluate the SPADE (System level Performance Analysis and Design space Exploration) methodology through an illustrative case study. SPADE is a method and tool for architecture exploration of heterogeneous signal processing systems. In this case study we start from an M-JPEG application and use SPADE to evaluate alternative multi-processor architectures for implementing this application. SPADE follows the Y-chart paradigm for system level design;application and architecture are modeled separately and mapped onto each other in an explicit design step. SPADE permits architectures to be modeled at an abstract level using a library of generic building blocks, thereby reducing the cost of model construction and simulation. The case study shows that SPADE supports efficient exploration of candidate architectures;models can be easily constructed, modified and simulated in order to quickly evaluate alternative system implementations.

Subject of this paper is the functional description and refinement of a connector service to manage dynamic interactions in multi-service agent platforms. At first, the concept of architectural frames will be introduced as a common development framework for application systems and interpreted for the class of agent systems. For the program-technical realization and execution of agent application systems, services are needed meeting the concepts of the architecture-based approach. Since platform services are based on application-independent building blocks and concepts, they are derived and developed by examining, analyzing and abstracting requirements of application-technical building blocks on platforms. This will be discussed for the aspect of interagent connections: a common process model of interagent connections will be introduced at next. Analyzing its partial processes, process types are identified and assigned to components of the connector service. The connector service will be modeled object-orientedly and mapped onto a multi-service agent platform named ADE corresponding to concepts of the architecture-based approach.

Growing requirements on the correct design of high performance multimedia systems in a short time force us to use IP's blocks in many designs. However, their correct integration in a design implies more complex verification problems. In this paper, we present a C++/SystemC based simulation flow at multiple levels of abstraction. Our approach is to use SystemC to describe both application and a set of algorithmic IP cores to be incorporated throughout the design flow. Our methodology supports design refinement through four main abstraction levels, offers verification techniques at each level and allows the use of EDA co-verification tools. The use of C++/SystemC to model all parts of the system provides great flexibility and enables faster simulation compared to existing methodologies. An illustrative case study for wavelet based compression system design shows that our methodology supports efficient algorithmic specification, where IP models can be easily incorporated, modified and simulated in order to quickly evaluate alternative system implementation.

The Multi-Attribute Prediction Language (MAPL), an analysis metamodel for non-functional qualities of systems-of-systems, is introduced. MAPL features analysis in five nonfunctional areas: service cost, service availability, data accuracy, application coupling, and application size. In addition, MAPL explicitly includes utility modeling to make trade-offs between the qualities. The paper introduces how each of the five non-functional qualities is modeled and quantitatively analyzed based on the ArchiMate standard for enterprise architecture modeling and the previously published Predictive, Probabilistic architecture modeling Framework, building on the well-known UML and OCL formalisms. The main contribution of MAPL lies in combining all five nonfunctional analyses into a single unified framework.
