The use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to process Electroencephalograph (EEG) signals has been introduced in recent years with great success in the field of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI). Nevertheless, in order to advance towards a CNN-based BCI prototype, they must be efficiently mapped into low-power and low-cost hardware, enabling a real-time, portable and Internet-independent brain-computer communication. This work presents the implementation of an EEGNet-based model into an ARM Cortex M4F microcontroller, available on the arduino Nano 33 Sense. Starting from models trained over the Physionet Motor Movement/Imagery dataset, 8-bit integer post-training quantization has been considered to reduce computing complexity, with a mean downgrade of 2.64 +/- 0.77% in accuracy. Moreover, their computational impact and memory footprint have been characterized by measuring the associated operations and Random-Access Memory (RAM) usage. Finally, a selected model has been implemented on the ARM Cortex M4F, with a latency of 137 ms and an energy per inference of 2.55 mJ, a 40% lower than other EEGNet implementation on the same microcontroller.

The acquisition of experimental equipment has become a problem, due to its high costs. To partially solve this problem, the scientific community has used the arduino data acquisition board (DAB). This board has a low-cost and allows the automation of equipment in a simple and practical way. However, using only the arduino board is no longer enough, it is now necessary to combine it with the implementation of an user-friendly interface. Through this combination, it is possible to develop sophisticated laboratory equipment. The aim of this work is to describe step by step and in a simple way the development and implementation of a low-cost experimental equipment based on arduino for use in higher education. Also, this work tries to encourage users to develop their own laboratory equipment, and solve their equipment needs. The novelty of this work pretends to be that any user without a deep knowledge of electronics and programming can easily assemble their own lab equipment, avoiding high equipment fees. In this work, three simple examples are shown, and any teacher, researcher, or student can easily reproduce them. With the combination of three previous examples, it is possible to develop sophisticated laboratory equipment, for example a Ph Meter with temperature sensor and stirring setup. The commercial cost of this lab equipment is approximately 600 USD, but with this homemade setup, the total cost drops to 75 USD.

Radar technology has been a cornerstone of numerous applications, from aviation to meteorology, offering invaluable capabilities for object detection and tracking. Traditional radar systems, while powerful, often come with significant costs and complexities, limiting their accessibility in various fields. In response to these limitations, this research endeavors to design and implement a radar system using arduino microcontrollers and ultrasonic sensors. This innovative approach leverages the flexibility and affordability of the arduino platform and the distance measurement precision of ultrasonic sensors to create a radar-like system. The research encompasses the development of the hardware, data acquisition, signal processing, and real-time visualization, providing an accessible and cost-effective alternative for radar-based applications. The study explores the integration of arduino technology and ultrasonic sensors into radar systems, with a focus on simplicity, affordability, and practicality. By bridging the gap between traditional radar systems and DIY electronics, this research aims to democratize radar technology and open doors for applications in robotics, smart cities, industrial automation, and education. The step response of first-order systems is vital in control systems and electronics. Understanding this behaviour is key but often challenging. This article uses arduino with PWM to teach the step response in RC circuits, since arduino enables real-time data acquisition and visualisation, connecting theory to practice. The research seeks to illustrate the step response of an RC circuit using arduino, deepen knowledge of first-order systems, and offer a technique for collecting experimental data. All of this, since combining practical experiments with theoretical concepts boosts student involvement and understanding of dynamic systems. The work includes theoretical foundations, experimental procedures, and a brief discussion on the educational value of these activities.

The massive quantity of electricity gets used in lights through roadways in India. Still, roadways remain empty for nearly all of the day after at night, with a handful of cars passing during the entire time. In India, the typical roadway and bridge illumination system isn't automated. The number of vehicles and visitors is particularly high in the streets at night, and the lights are on all night. A greater proportion of light is squandered on roads ineffectively. This paper shows a street light system is utilized with different innovations. Power LEDs are utilized due to its excellent electrical efficiency, extra duration, cost-effectiveness, and capacity to lower pollution levels. Using a smart street light system, we will save our electrical costs. In addition, smart street lights will control power more effectively by reducing the risk of the automated street light system warming as well as the risk of incidents. Wasting energy by keeping the street lights on all night, we can build an affordable, high-performance smart street light system with the arduino, LDR sensors. In this article, we'll discover how to create an automatic street light which turns itself on or off while a car or other object is passing by. © 2023 IEEE.

Pollution of the air is a major problem all around the globe now-a-days. Human activities and natural processes are both potential causes of air pollution. Particles and gases in the atmosphere that is harmful to human health. It affects the majority of big cities in both developing and developed countries. That's why it's so important to have a system for constant monitoring of pollution and air quality. Using a simple, low-cost sensor and an arduino microcontroller, we were able to create an air pollution detector. The detector's benefits are its dependability, stability, quick reaction recovery, and longevity. This hardware is suitable for portable measurement and understandable data collecting;it is inexpensive, user-friendly, low-cost, and requires minimal power. It features processing software that can precisely analyze the data it has acquired. Easy air quality monitoring is made possible by straightforward equipment with practical applications in industry. This setup makes use of a number of different parts, including an arduino Uno and a MQ135 gas sensor. When compared to its competitors, arduino offers superior speed and compatibility. The MQ135 gas detection device is able to properly measure the amount of dangerous gases in the atmosphere and display the results in Parts Per Million (PPM). © 2023 IEEE.

India,which is a promising global leader and an economic hub, is still trapped in the clutches of various patriarchal problems like kidnapping, murder, molestations, dowry, crime against women, worst among all is rape. The atrocities against the women can be stopped with the help of this proposed safety device. The proposed safety device includes a microcontroller, an emergency pushbutton switch, and a heartbeat sensor. Whenever emergency situation is sensed, the device acquires the current location of the woman in distress and forwards it to emergency contacts via Global System for Mobile (GSM) module. The Global Positioning System(GPS) module is used to track the location. The information processed by microcontroller is sent to the user using GSM modem (interfaced to the MCU) which then sends an SMS to the predefined mobile number. When a woman is in danger and need self-defense, she can press the switch allotted to her. The complete system is initialized and a SMS with location will be sent immediately to the concerned person with a single press of the switch. The heartbeat rate data is also sent along with the coordinates of the person's location as a text message to the number using GSM and GPS. © 2023 IEEE.

Normal plant management systems relies majorly on human monitoring and care. Some of the disadvantages are uneven watering, inadequate nutrition supply to the plants, time consuming, lack in precision of plant health parameters, not having real time visibility, inefficient resource usage of water and energy. In order to overcome these drawbacks, a deep learning-based Plant management system is proposed in this work. By automating the system, there are several advantages. In this project, an arduino Based Plant Automation System that waters plants automatically based on the amount of soil moisture detected by the sensors is designed. The device provide fertilizer based on detecting plant diseases through image processing software. Some advantages of the proposed system include Accurate Monitoring of plants health parameters. Automated watering, fertilizing, providing real time alerts and notifications, improved plant health and growth, energy and resource efficiency, remote access and control etc. Some areas where this system can be deployed are Smart homes, Indoor gardening, Horticulture research, Sustainable Agriculture and Vertical Farming. © 2023 IEEE.

Battery health monitoring systems (BHMS) are the key component of the entire energy conversion system for various applications. In order to ensure the long and healthy life of the dynamic battery storage, proper BHMS is vital and a critical coordinated system for the monitoring of battery health in many applications as telecommunications, uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid EVs, and others marine transportation applications. It is evident that battery health monitoring must be done alongside any use of a source of battery in transportation applications. Simulation analysis monitors the Battery SoC level and voltage variation at regular intervals. Further, this paper describes the low-cost hardware implementation of a battery health monitoring system using an Internet of Things (IoT) based control system to increase the accuracy and efficiency of battery health monitoring with the aid of arduino microcontroller, node MCUESP8266, and with a Think-speak server. © 2023 IEEE.

Integration of Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for calculating roll, pitch, and yaw is presented in this paper. This paper presents the design of a low-cost IMU for calculating the attitude of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. In order to create a cheap inertial measurement unit that includes an accelerometer and gyroscope. Using the expanding microcontroller software environment, sensor integration with a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope simulates 6 degrees of freedom orientation sensing. An inexpensive hardware implementation of many sensors is now possible thanks to the inclusion of computationally onboard microcontroller software like arduino, which is used in a variety of aerospace applications. © 2023 IEEE.
