In order to lower the risk of illness transmission among people and among members of the medical community, hand cleanliness is more crucial than ever. You should wash your hands numerous times in the afternoon, as has been advised since the COVID pandemic started. In addition to reducing the transmission of germs from one individual to another, hand sanitizer eliminates pathogens that are already on our hands. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased interest in contactless disinfection methods. The device described in this paper uses an arduino and UV illumination to disinfect hands without physical contact. The proposed system uses an ultrasonic sensor to identify the user's hand and turn on the UV-C lights for disinfection. The system is made to be portable and is simple to set up in public locations like businesses, hospitals, and airports. The use of hand sanitiser can help us fight COVID-19 virus effectively and reduces the usage of water. Numerous pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and fungus, are successfully eliminated by the system's UV-C radiation. The device also has a special feature of automatic refilling of the sanitiser provided and alerting the user via messages with the help of sim 900 GSM module. The device offers a 95% disinfection rate in less than 10 seconds, making it a quick and effective hand hygiene solution. The system can be easily controlled and customized thanks to the use of arduino because of its cheap cost and simplicity of use. The proposed method could help people practice better hand hygiene and stop the transmission of infectious diseases, which makes it a valuable weapon in the war against COVID-19 and other viruses. © 2023 IEEE.

Half of the population was impacted by the coronavirus last year, and the number of cases is still rising daily. Direct and indirect contact with infected people is how COVID-19 spreads. This paper presents a novel strategy for reducing the spread of the disease: a clever social distancing technique that works in both indoor and outdoor environments. This system consists of a unique, affordable, and small wearable prototype that uses human sensing technology to determine the social distance between people and send out alerts when it drops below a certain safe level. It advises the individual to maintain their social distance. The apparatus uses ultrasonic sensors to function. The watch's thermal detector may be used to determine a person's body temperature and to send out a warning to stay away from them. The intelligent variable gadget alerts people to the need to protect themselves against COVID-19 contact. This clever and original idea may lower the number of COVID-19 instances. Additionally, this gadget may sometimes be useful in signaling to someone to maintain their distance. Our research showed that compared to the commonly used Bluetooth-based product, the purpose system is much more dependable. © 2023 IEEE.

In India, traffic problems are a major concern, especially for people residing in major cities and sub-urban areas where traffic must be monitored and cleared manually by traffic police due to the sheer population of the nation which can lead to people being stuck in traffic for hours on end. Addressing this problem, we have proposed a solution involving density-based traffic management which also includes a stolen vehicle detection system, identifying red light-violating vehicles, stolen vehicle detection, and emergency vehicle detection for free flow of traffic for emergency vehicles using arduino, GSM module and RFID. © 2023 IEEE.

arduino, a widely used tool for physical computing, is favored for its affordability and easy availability. However, a drawback for beginners is the requirement of prior knowledge of C programming language and circuit theory for effectively utilizing arduino. In this research, we address this issue by developing a Graphical arduino IDE system that allows users to control arduino without the need for prior knowledge of C language and circuit theory. Users can create node graph-based scripts in the Wiring Tab of the Graphical arduino IDE and develop flowchart-based scripts in the Algorithm Tab. The scripts created in the Wiring Tab serve as guidelines for wiring, thus preventing users from making wiring mistakes. Additionally, users without knowledge of C language can control arduino by creating flowchart-based scripts in the Algorithm Tab. The finalized scripts are converted into arduino code and uploaded to the arduino board using the built-in Code Upload feature. Finally, a paired t test was conducted between the Graphical arduino IDE and Scratch for arduino, confirming that the Graphical arduino IDE required fewer user inputs.

By using the idea of arduino to connect all the items in the grocery store, and automated smart shopping system is created. This work aims to create a trolley using an RFID reader for automatic supermarket. To make the transaction more comfortable, a trolley is equipped with an RFID reader and electrical hardware system. The RFID card, whose price is fixed into the reader, fixes those products that are about the specific quality. When an item is displayed to the reader, its description is added to the purchase bill and displayed on the LCD screen. The billing is made even faster and takes less time because all the data is updated to the webpage for billing updates through an arduino. © 2023 IEEE.

Low-Cost Approach to an Instream Water Depth Sensor Construction Using Differential Pressure Sensors and arduino Microcontrollers

Accurate hydrological data with high spatial resolution is important for flood risk and water resource management, particularly under the context of climate change. The cost of monitoring networks, as well as the characteristics of the hydrological environment itself, can be a barrier to meeting these data requirements, however. This study covers the design and testing of a low-cost, "build-it-yourself", instream water depth sensor providing an assessment of its potential in future hydrological monitoring projects. The low-cost sensor was built using an arduino microcontroller, a differential pressure sensor and a thermistor, a real-time clock, and an SD card module. The low-cost logger was deployed in tandem with a factory-calibrated Solinst (R) LevelLogger (R) 5 Junior for 6 months in the River Wissey, UK. We found the mean absolute error of the arduino-based logger relative to the commercial setup to be +/- 0.69 cm for water depth and +/- 0.415 degrees C for water temperature. Economically, the arduino-based logger offers an advantage, costing a total of 133.35 pound (USD 168.26 at time of publication) comparative to the industrial comparison's cost of 408 pound (USD 514.83 at time of publication). This study concludes that the low cost of the arduino-based logger gives a strong advantage to its incorporation in hydrological data collection, if the trade-offs (i.e., time investment and accuracy) are considered acceptable and appropriate for a project.

Hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) can enhance the authenticity and reliability of offline simulation at the design stage, and reduce the risk of equipment performance commissioning for complex systems. This paper focuses on the HILS of the control mechanism of a nuclear-powered engineering ship including a two-loop nuclear power system, an electric power system, and a mechanical system. In the software part, the mathematical model is implemented in Modelica language with OpenModelica. The nuclear power system is demonstrated in steady-state referring to the Japanese nuclear power merchant ship "NS Mutsu" and is debugged under transient conditions with the help of an operation control module. The electric power system and mechanical system were developed to have certain functions for marine engineering. In the hardware part, the system is built based on an arduino microcontroller, the Modelica open-source library, and a Bluetooth-based communication protocol between the computer and the microcontroller. The study proved that HILS is capable of simulating the multiphysical joint operation on the software level, establishing the real-time action response and data feedback between the software and hardware parts, and completing steady-state as well as various transient simulations.

Today, personal security has become a major issue for both men & women. Women have endured carnal harassment these days which is shocking every day. The circumstances are much worse in growing and less developed countries. Women's safety is an hour-long necessity these days. In India, there are many cases of violence against women. Important saftey measures for men & women should be there at home, outside or in their workplace. In this paper an attempt has been made to make a smart machine that can help women when they feel unsafe. Women can get faster support and higher security by pressing the device's emergency button. In the event of an incident, this device can trace the location of the user in actual time and send it to the nearest police station and volunteers [5]. The user can find a secure area nearby with this device as well. Additionally, this gadget works on both online and offline modes. Whether no internet is available, the user can still use the gadget to access the nearest police station and volunteer support. The device contains Raspberry pie, GSM, PIR sensors, Bluetooth, GPS, etc [2]. The sum of all these features together makes this gadget affordable and easy to navigate.

Algorithmic thinking development through physical computing activities with arduino in STEM education

The need to benefit from information technologies in the twenty-first century digital age is increasing in all economies to overcome problems and difficulties and to have desired solutions. So, developing algorithmic thinking has been important as a skill that requires the application of knowledge from different disciplines, especially science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and improves solving real life problems. Therefore, there is a need for practical studies on how to develop algorithmic thinking and what kind of activities and learning content can be used in classrooms. The effect of STEM-focused physical computing activities with arduino on algorithmic thinking skills and STEM awareness of teacher candidates was investigated by mixed-method research. In addition, student-teacher roles in the activities and the advantages-disadvantages of the activities were discussed by considering the views of the teacher candidates. The study group of the research consists of twenty-four volunteer students. They were selected by purposive sampling method, and they are studying in the last year of science teaching undergraduate program at twelve different universities in Turkey. The findings showed that STEM-focused physical computing activities developed teacher candidates' algorithmic thinking skills. Therefore, it can be said that the activities increased the awareness of teacher candidates about STEM. The effect size (Cohen d) of the STEM awareness scale was calculated as 0.98 according to the pre-test and post-test averages.

This work presents a low-cost transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) instrument for nucleic acid detection, employing an arduino Nano microcontroller. The cooling system includes customized printed circuit boards (PCBs) that serve as electrical resistors and incorporate fans. An aluminum block is designed to accommodate eight vials. The system also includes two PCB heaters-one for sample heating and the other for vial lid heating to prevent condensation. The color detection system comprises a TCS3200 color 8-sensor array coupled to one side of the aluminum heater body and a white 8-LED array coupled to the other side, controlled by two Multiplexer/Demultiplexer devices. LED light passes through the sample, reaching the color sensor and conveying color information crucial for detection. The top board is maintained at 110 +/- 2 degrees C, while the bottom board is held at 65 +/- 0.5 degrees C throughout the RT-LAMP assay. Validation tests successfully demonstrated the efficacy of the colorimetric RT-LAMP reactions using SARS-CoV-2 RNA amplification as a sample viability test, achieving 100% sensitivity and 97.3% specificity with 66 clinical samples. Our instrument offers a cost-effective (USD 100) solution with automated result interpretation and superior sensitivity compared to visual inspection. While the prototype was tested with SARS-CoV-2 RNA samples, its versatility extends to detecting other pathogens using alternative primers, showcasing its potential for broader applications in biosensing.
