Olfaction, according to modern research, has not yet been classified based on its known properties. Unlike the sense of taste and sight, the sense of smell does not have any known dimensions of category. Modern technologies of Electronic nose (E-nose) systems were used in analyzing smells. This study aimed to categorize different clusters of smell and differentiate their levels of reaction to an E-nose system comprising of different sensors. MQ-Metal-Oxide semiconductor gas sensors were used coupled with artificial neural network (ANN) using MATLAB to evaluate the systems capability of discrimination. Interfacing was done using arduino microcontroller for communication. MQ5 Gas sensor gave the most variance. This result confirmed that the system's ability to be used in future applications was suggested.

The biochemical assays in a microfluidic centrifugal method uses specially designed disks for the miniaturization of typical laboratory processes. This paper describes the development of a low-cost and portable point-of-care device capable of performing blood tests based on microfluidic disk. The device is capable of performing blood cholesterol test in its automatic mode. In manual mode other test routines can be tested according to user's needs. The arduino microcontroller is employed to be the core of this system. It controls the rotational speed, direction, the duration of rotation of the disk and the user interface.

This paper presents the application of certain intelligent techniques to control an industrial mixer. Control design is based on Hebbian modification of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps learning. This research study develops a Dynamic Fuzzy Cognitive Map (DFCM) based on Hebbian Learning algorithms. It was used Fuzzy Classic Controller to help validate simulation results of an industrial mixer of DFCM. Experimental analysis of simulations in this control problem was conducted. Additionally, the results were embedded using efficient algorithms into the arduino platform in order to acknowledge the performance of the codes reported in this paper.

A method of construction for a multirobot exploration system is proposed here. The system consists of three main parts: a master controller, a communications layer, and multiple robots. The multirobot system searches for signal sources, which can be crucial in real-world applications, such as rescue missions. An experiment was conducted as a proof of concept for the validity of the multirobot system.

This paper describes the design of a self-sufficient system for lighting street lights using piezoelectric renewable energy source. In modern times, renewable energy sources are more desirable because of the lack of more direct sources of energy. In this project, we make use of piezoelectric materials to generate practically usable electricity from wasted mechanical energy. Piezoelectric harvesters are becoming increasingly popular because the produced piezoelectricity now can supply up to 10-100's of W of available power. In this paper, we describe the use of full-wave bridge rectifiers to improve the power extraction capability from piezoelectric harvesters and the further steps required to provide sufficient energy to light up smart street lights.

Halal certification is very crucial these days. In Malaysia, JAKIM plays very important role to certify halal product. Products with halal certification become highest priority in users' demands in Muslim country, particularly in Malaysia. However, due to the rapid development of advanced technology, irresponsible manufactures resort to produce fake halal to attract Muslim consumers and overshadow their decision. Therefore this project is to develop a halal kit identifier to help consumer to identify the halal status of the product. The main focus of this project is to validate the Halal status for products by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to improve the existing systems available nowadays. Using this approach, the Halal status of the product can be easily validated, because every tag that will be embedded into food packages has its unique identification number. From various tests conducted, the portable Halal kit identifier using RFID technology developed in this research is able to help consumers to validate Halal status of products wirelessly in very efficient way.

Malaysia has invested on public transport over the years to improve quality of leaving. Transportation has been identified as the key area in Malaysia's government transformation programme. In Malaysia, many people still choose to use their own transport compared to public transport to travel. For efficient public transport service such as bus, real-time tracking/monitoring must be available apart from their fixed schedule. The objective of this project is to develop a low cost real-time IIUM bus on campus monitoring system. IIUM shuttle bus monitoring has been chosen as a pilot study which reflects the bigger picture of Malaysia's bus system. In IIUM, students need to wait for the bus without any clue and this is such a waste of time. Thus, IIUM bus tracking system is proposed in this project where waiting time can be improved. Users can track the exact location of the bus therefore they can have better plan for their journey. Global positioning system technology has been used to send and receive the coordinate data to the server. A web server application has been developed to integrate the Global positioning system data to be presented on the map. At the end of the project, a website of real-time IIUM bus on campus monitoring system has been developed where users can monitor the exact location of the IIUM bus conveniently.

The heavy traffic congestion problem in major cities and towns is mainly attributed to the time spend across crowded traffic junctions especially during peak hours. The traffic across junctions is controlled by signaling patterns, where the signal duration is invariably static in nature. The traffic density across either sides of the road does not affect the duration of signal. For reducing the time taken in waiting across traffic junction, the proposed work aims at simulating a dynamic traffic signal using fuzzy logic which would change the timing of the green signal with respect to the intensity of traffic and feed this to an arduino microcontroller based fuzzy inference system which decides the duration of the green signal. The intensity of traffic is computed using two methods, feature detection and image subtraction methods. The feature detection method takes lot of processing time and image subtraction method along with fuzzy logic was found more suitable in dynamically controlling the duration of traffic signals.

New Approach on Development a Dual Axis Solar Tracking Prototype

To track the sun in two directions that is elevation and azimuth, a dual-axis tracking prototype is developed to capture the maximum sun rays by tracking the movement of the sun in four different directions. One axis is azimuth which allows the solar panel to move left and right. The other axis is elevation and allows the panel to turn up and down. The result of this new development provides the solar panels with extensive freedom of movement. This new approach will make use of the Light Depending Resistor (LDR) which is important to detect the sun light by following the source of the sun light location. AutoCAD software is being used to design the draft in 2-dimension (2D) for the hardware dual axis solar tacker. Sketch Up software is being used to sketch the drawing to be more real in 3-dimension (3D). Proteus software is being used to design the circuit for the arduino UNO microcontrollers and H-BridgeIC chip. This implemented system can save more energy and probably offers more reduction in cost. The paper discusses the process of hardware development and the control process of tracking the sun, as well as the circuit design.

Mobile robot navigation in unknown static environments using ANFIS controller

Navigation and obstacle avoidance are the most important task for any mobile robots. This article presents the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) controller for mobile robot navigation and obstacle avoidance in the unknown static environments. The different sensors such as ultrasonic range finder sensor and sharp infrared range sensor are used to detect the forward obstacles in the environments. The inputs of the ANFIS controller are obstacle distances obtained from the sensors, and the controller output is a robot steering angle. The primary objective of the present work is to use ANFIS controller to guide the mobile robot in the given environments. Computer simulations are conducted through MATLAB software and implemented in real time by using C/C++ language running arduino microcontroller based mobile robot. Moreover, the successful experimental results on the actual mobile robot demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed controller.
