Commercial intelligent syringe infusion pumps nowadays have many advanced features such as drug libraries, wireless communication, and a barcode scanner. However, such intelligent devices lack the capability of measuring an infusion rate (flow) directly. The rate is a variation of volume divided by a variation of time. Thus, commercial syringe pumps measure the diameter of disposable syringe through a linear potentiometer. Together with a distance information provided via a stepper motor's drive, a volume can be calculated. Lastly, a flow will be calculated by a division of this volume via spent time. In this paper, a direct measurement of an infused flow will be made via an LD20 (SF04) flow sensor manufactured by Sensiron company. This will improve the safety of a delivery of high risk medications through a direct flow measurement, an air-bubble detection, an occlusion detection, a temperature reading of infused drug and other features provided via the usage of LD20 flow sensor.

We proposed a scheme for smart road-lights and auto traffic-signal controller with emergency override, based on an arduino microcontroller. It estimates the extent of the existing vehicular concentration using ultrasonic sensors, providing different time slots to each road based on traffic density. The proposed system attempts to reduce the probability of traffic jams caused by the unmanaged traffic lights. Another aim is to provide a hassle-free, pre-eminent clearance for the emergency vehicles. In order to do so, we designed a portable remote that uses Bluetooth modules to communicate with the signal controller. The controller responds to the arrival of any such vehicle and acts accordingly. The objective is to reduce the delay of emergency vehicles for reaching the scenes of disaster with minimum possible interruption to regular traffic flow. Moreover, this article aims to incorporate the design of the intelligent street lighting system to endorse the idea of "energy on demand". Conventional street lights in areas with a low frequency of passers-by remain active most of the night without purpose, which is wasting power, consequently. To curb this problem, we advocate the use of Ultrasonic sensors to detect the motion of the automobiles or pedestrians, hence, activating lights when required with optimal energy consumption.

The electrical signals that are emerging from our body enables us to connect to countless applications in the field of Human-machine interface and rehabilitation. In this paper, a low-cost human-machine interface (HMI) is implemented which could be of great help for people who have lost their voluntary movements while retaining the cognitive capacity. Hence the only way to assist them is by recording the bio-signals generated from the body and use them to control special medical assisting equipment. Here, a prototype of a wheelchair has been developed using LABVIEW and an arduino microcontroller that can be actuated by the muscle signals (EMG). The processed signal from the Myoware EMG sensor is given as input to the microcontroller, which depending on the type of signal generated, decides which direction to move on. An attempt has also been made to detect stationary and non-stationary obstacles in the path using an ultrasonic transducer enabled with a smart collision avoidance algorithm, which has been fixed on the wheelchair. Additionally, an anti-theft mode, emergency braking with gyroscope control and a GPS tracking facility has also been incorporated. This single channel EMG controlled wheelchair can also be used to assist and help people affected by partial paralysis or even Quadriplegia with slight modifications.

Liquid helium (LHe) is used as a cryogen in a variety of applications involving superconductivity and is routinely monitored for conducting low-temperature experiments. Thermoacoustic oscillations, which are inevitably present inside closed LHe containers, are utilized for level detection by sensing the vibrations at the warm end of a thin capillary tube inserted into the Dewar. The position of the capillary tube at which a sudden change occurs in these oscillations is manually sensed to identify the liquid level. The present work proposes a novel hardware design to identify the thermoacoustic oscillations in a reliable way using an accelerometer driven by an arduino microcontroller. Further, an automated approach has been devised to quantify the rate of change of these helium oscillations to measure the LHe level. The proposed method has been tested during several trials on a 120 L and 100 L capacity Dewar using the proposed hardware, and the mean error in measuring the LHe level was calculated to be less than 1 cm in comparison with the gold standard niobium-titanium level sensor. The results encourage the use of the proposed method to evolve as a cost-effective alternative to the widely used superconducting level sensors in measuring LHe level.

A multi-functional BCI system for exigency assistance and environment control based on ML and IoT

Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is a modality to create an interface which sustains bidirectional communication between the brain and computers. Major disadvantages in implementing such systems are the bulky design and system cost. This study implements a simple multifunction BCI system for the environment control and exigency assistance by just using single channel Electroencephalogram (EEG). In the proposed model, the environment is controlled through Internet of Things (IoT) as per individual's cognitive state while for exigency assistance served as per Event Related Potential (ERP) observed during oddball paradigm. arduino microcontroller (AMC) hardware is designed for controlling environment. Different Machine Learning (ML) algorithms observed for training the classifiers. Weighted k-Nearest Neighbour (Wk-NN) algorithm trained classifier delivers the best result, with accuracy of 98.3% to detect ERP and 95% accuracy for cognitive state detection. The simple, low cost prototype system was tested for environment control and assistance.

A sector of physically challenged people finds it very difficult to use traditional wheelchairs. Researchers have been working on computer-controlled chairs which utilize sensors and quick control algorithms to minimize the level of human intervention. This paper is based on a design that aids the voice activation system for physically disabled people by incorporating manual operation. arduino microcontroller and voice recognition have been used to support the movement of the wheelchair. The wheelchair does not respond to an incorrect speech command. Depending on the direction given through voice and gesture, the arduino controls the wheelchair directions. Ultrasonic sensors are used to detect obstacles. The prototype is designed in such a way that it can be used independently and efficiently with less effort. It saves time, reduces cost and energy of the users.

This paper outlines the methodology of designing and developing a smart control system for controlling light, air conditioning and ceiling fans in a room. This system considers the requirements of the users appropriately and makes a comfort zone for the users. An android application with a user friendly Graphical Interface, which is easy to communicate with the smart control system, has been developed. The application is connected with the control system through Wi-Fi across a cloud network and it can respond quickly. RGB LED panel light system that controls the color, color temperature and luminance was designed by considering the requirements of the instances and lighting conditions. Although there are RGB LED panel lights available, there are no systems defined for the activity based color modes. An IR Remote module controller system was built for controlling inverter type air conditioners by giving commands from a smart phone application. This system considers the mean value of the preferences of many users to control the air conditioning system. The running mode of the air conditioner is chosen from the data given through the application by many users in a same place. Although the inverter type air conditioners continuously regulate the temperatures, the fan does not do it. Because of this problem, a ceiling fan controlling system with two modes, automatic and manual, was designed. Automatic mode utilizes the users skin moisture related hybrid system to set the room temperature. Manual mode works according to the suggestions given by the crowd just as the air conditioning system. This air conditioning and ceiling fan control system that works according to the suggestions of crowd is better than the individual preference system using a conventional remote controller.

This paper examines an early, proof of concept solution for the design of a three - phase power inverter. The need for an inverter design is required for the drivetrain component (Linear Induction Motor) of a magnetic levitation / Hyperloop transportation system. The design revolves around a typical inverter topology driven by an open-loop controller design. The design proposed in this paper is the integration of an arduino microcontroller and an inverter circuit. The proposed inverter circuit consists of the main components which includes a three phase gate driver and Insulated Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) rated for 600V and a PWM controller. The controller used provides the required pulse width modulation (PWM) signals to drive the inverter circuit. The validity of the proposed design is proven through the comparison of the simulations performed in PSIM and the experimental results.

This research was to study the design and construction of the electrical energy meter leading to an automatic evaluation of the preliminary electrical energy expenses. The design of the electrical energy meter and the standard energy meter were used to record the data of the electrical power (W) and electrical energy consumption (kWh). The measurement of the data were done from the 5 electrical instruments. There are the refrigerator, compact fluorescent, fan, television and notebook. Then, the data were automatically calculated to the energy price (THB). It was observed that the percentage of the error data of electrical power (W) was in the range of 1.6 +/- 0.7 to 4.5 +/- 0.0 %. Furthermore, the data recording of the electrical energy consumption (kWh) and the error of each instrument were observed. It was found that the value of the percentage of the error was the maximum value of 5%. The energy price from the electrical energy consumption of each instruments were observed. The minimum value of the energy price was 0.05 THB from the compact fluorescent. The result of the maximum value of the energy price was 0.27 THB from the refrigerator.

In the Philippines, Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 is one of the most used public mass rapid transports by Filipino commuters in going to their respective destinations in Metro Manila. However, conditions of the trains have been deteriorating over the past years resulting to insufficient numbers of trains to meet the commuter demands during peak hours causing irate passengers, delays in train arrival and uncomfortably crowded stations and trains. Currently, LRT1 implements Passenger Limit Per Platform (PLPP) to regulate load capacity at the station platforms, prevent overloading of trains and congestion at the paid area. But the said scheme is being done manually which is tedious to staff and is prone to error. Thus, this study presents the integration of embedded system and different software applications to manage the crowd of all LRT1 stations platforms and trains intelligently. A Simulation software was developed to populate data to different stations that are relevant during operations in the absence of the station prototype. Integration and acceptance tests showed that all components of the system are functioning accurately according to the predetermined design specifications. The developed system proves to be functionally acceptable in terms of suitability and accuracy, and highly functional in terms of security. Thus, the overall system is functionally acceptable as perceived by the respondents as manifested by the mean rating of 3.28.
