Frequency response analysis of microcontroller-based discrete-time lead-lag compensators

With the rapid advancement of digital processors, filters have been commonly implemented using microcomputers. In this study, a low-cost and compact arduino uno development board was used to realize digital lead and lag compensators. arduino boards are very affordable. Consequently, they were investigated to see if they were capable of preserving the frequency response of continuous-time compensators. The experiments required a set of equipment including a function generator, an arduino uno development board, a PC-based oscilloscope, and a laptop. The signal frequency was varied from 0 to 500 Hz. Two discretization methods were employed, namely bilinear transformation and matched pole-zero mapping. The results showed that an arduino uno board can be utilized to implement lead and lag compensators to some extent. The discrete-time compensator preserved the capability of filtering out certain frequencies. The change in DC gain was negligible, however, there was a significant difference in the cut-off frequency and transient slope. For both discretization methods, the frequency responses at high frequency experienced a rippling profile.

In today's contemporary, fast-paced and dangerous world, knowing safety precautions is a fundamental necessity when operating a motor vehicle. Furthermore, there is proof of a concerning rise in the quantity of traffic accidents. Many data points to driver fatigue or intoxication as the primary cause of most accidents. When developing the system, the most crucial things to consider are the locations of the cars, the actions of the drivers and the real-time monitoring of every event. In essence, a driver monitoring system uses sensors and cameras to keep an eye on the driver and notify users of any suspicious behaviour, like speeding too much, drinking, staying alert when it's not needed, etc. This is an important way to determine the driver's driving habits so that decisions can be made later. Heartbeat, temperature and eye blink sensors are used in the construction of this system, which monitors the driver's condition and sounds an alert when the monitored values rise above the preset threshold value while the DC motor is set to slowly cease. Developing this system with all available sensors and analytical capabilities is essential to accurately monitor the driving behaviour of the driver. © 2024. Carbon Magics Ltd.

An Integrated Hardware Prototype for Monitoring Gas Leaks, Fires, and Remote Control via Mobile Application

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is used in a wide range of applications such as home and industrial appliances, vehicles, and refrigerators. However, leakage of gas can have a dangerous and toxic effect on humans and other living organisms. In this paper, an IoT based system is employed for this purpose to monitor gas leakage, detect flames, and alert users. The MQ-5 gas sensor was used to understand the concentration level of a closed volume of gas, while the infrared flame sensor was used to detect the spread of fire in this study. The proposed system has the capacity to detect fire and gas leaks as well as take additional action to lower gas concentration by air ventilation with exhausted fan and put out fires with fire extinguisher. The suggested approach will contribute to increasing safety, lowering the mortality toll, and minimizing harm to the environment. Overall system is implemented with IOT cloud-based remote controls to prevent gas leakage by using android application in response to individual feedback or feed-forward commands. The controller used here is arduino uno Rev3 SMD. This study provides design approaches to both software and hardware.

Recently, security systems are one of the most important research problems. Among these systems is the gas and flame leak detection system. Here we propose a system to monitor the presence of fire and the gas concentration in real time in the atmosphere. This system is based on an arduino board which allows to process and transfer data from two sensors (gas and flame sensor) to a smart phone. An alert has been triggered if a gas or flame leak is detected. Indeed, a message has been sent to the person concerned. This, we made a wireless connection between the application that already installed on the smart phone and the arduino board through a Bluetooth module.

Automated Photovoltaic (PV) Panels are accessible and reliable engines for harnessing energy delivered from the Sun rays. In this paper, we design an efficient solar tracking device composed of an arduino uno board, two stepper motors, a pair of specialized L298N circuits and an optocoupler. We also present a novel approach for orienting the solar panel towards the Sun based on the cast-shadow effect as well as a low-cost and sensorless solution for providing an automated variant of the PV panel. The implementation of a dedicated blocking mechanism for the stepper motors managed to reduce the overall power consumption of the system by 86.93% and thus eliminated the device's dependability from the AC network. The experimental results show a 45.21% voltage, 49.71% current and 58.82% power increase over the static PV panel by using monocrystalline solar cells.

Microcontroller based sample Space Vector Modulation for two-level three-phase voltage source inverter is discussed here. The system is designed in ATmega64, which is an 8-bit low cost microcontroller. A fixed number of sample is used to produce a full wave. Here, Timer overflow interrupt is used to generate every new sample. All the calculation is done in interrupt subroutine. With simple modification, the system can be integrated to a variable frequency drive (VFD) of induction motor. Simulations are performed in Matlab/Simulink and Proteus Design Suite. Similar results are found in both simulation tools. The simulation results show that the proposed modified method results in reduction of calculation cycle numbers in interrupt routine.

Aquariums are often functioned as room decoration and hobby distribution and become a place for living and breeding ornamental fish. Still, people who have a fairly busy schedule in terms of work will have difficulty maintaining ornamental fish, especially when leaving the house in a short time. The purpose of this study is to design a tool that can help the community in terms of scheduling feeding times and automatic water changes in the aquarium and being able to monitor the condition of the aquarium in real-time via an Android smartphone by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. arduino IDE as a tool for creating systems using the C/C++ programming language. The result of this research is that the turbidity sensor and pH sensor can work according to a predetermined scale, which can read the highest water turbidity of 2989.6 NTU for fish feed samples mixed with coffee and the lowest for mineral water samples of 10 NTU. As for the pH sensor can read the lowest pH of 3.3 in 15 ml vinegar samples and the highest pH 7 in mineral water samples which means neutral. Likewise, with the solenoid valve, which can provide feed according to the amount of feed for carp that is 4-5 grams and according to a schedule determined by the user via a smartphone so that this tool can be an alternative solution for the public in monitoring the condition of the aquarium in real-time via a smartphone.

The uncollected waste material when the waste bin is full is a common problem nowadays. Thus, an efficient waste management for the waste material is essential in ensuring a clean and green surrounding environment. This paper presents an Internet of Things (IoT) based Smart Waste Collection Monitoring and Alert System to monitor the waste material at the selected site of garbage collection area. The system is implemented using an ultrasonic sensor which is connected to arduino uno as to monitor waste bin garbage level. In this system, waste bin depth level will be sent via arduino Ethernet Shield with an Internet connection to the Ubidots IoT Cloud. The Ubidots store the collected waste bin level data into IoT database and display the waste bin depth level on online dashboard for real-time visualization. The Ubidots Event manager invoke a notification alert to garbage collector mobile phone via a SMS when the waste bin is nearly filled for immediate waste collection. Therefore, the waste collection became more effective and systematic.

In Singapore, most of the pipelines are made of ductile iron, which develops leaks over time that leads to water ingress. Water ingress in low-pressure gas pipelines is a serious problem that can lead to catastrophic consequences. Hence, timely detection of water ingress is important to avert danger. A vibration sensor based detection technique is employed to detect three kinds of anomalies in this paper, which are, individual knock, multiple knocks and water ingress. The paper outlines the development of a wireless pipeline monitoring system at a fraction of the cost of conventional systems to detect water ingress in the gas distribution network. Various IoT technologies such as Bluetooth 5.0, XBee and Sigfox are compared to find the optimal solution in terms of ease of use, device specification and cost of setup.
