Weather alteration in most part of the world especially in some African countries has affected rural farming communities adversely. The persistent droughts and unpredictable rain patterns in Ghana have rendered many rural communities with little or no water for daily needs. Hydroponic technology has been the toast of few peasants in Ghana very recently, however, drawing water from deep wells to irrigate their plants also poses challenges for them. We propose a design and construct PV powered water pumping system using arduino yun microcontroller technology for providing electricity at an affordable rate to the hydroponic system for the peasants in the rural communities. Farmers can use hydroponic and use a workable and practically oriented designs with moisture sensor which will determine as and when the water pumping motor starts or stops the irrigation process. We demonstrated PV water pumping system is no longer at experimental and prototype stage but an implementation stage. We will further set onward plans that the system is undoubtedly developed at a cheaper rate. Presently, Ghana is faced with an energy deficiency and not only erratic electricity cuts but we also see an astronomical increase and intolerable tariffs. To make it more convenient and affordable to the rural communities, the hydroponic design we propose has made simpler the rural farming using mechanisms obtainable in Ghana.

Smart boards are triggering the IoT revolution, allowing to make common objects and things smart through their network, storage and processing capabilities. arduino boards have a prominent role in this revolution, due to their customizability and programming freedom. From a different perspective, another strategic development for the IoT is towards Cloud, allowing to properly manage things and data ubiquitously, on demand, as services. Pushing in this direction, we can pave the way to the Cloud of Things, where real things, rather than the data they produce, can be provided to third parties, by adopting a "device-centric" approach. To this purpose, virtualization of physical resources becomes an essential step and core mechanism. In this paper we focus on smart board virtualization, implementing a flexible solution for arduino boards based on Stack4Things, allowing to create, multiplex, migrate and deploy virtual boards in IoT-Cloud contexts. The results obtained by a preliminary implementation and experiments on the #SmartME testbed are shown in the paper to demonstrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

In recent years, many internet of things (IoT) platforms based on cloud computing have been proposed for general purpose applications. Though many similar platforms or schemes particular for smart home applications have been proposed, many issues such as multiple connectivity due to diversity of smart home applications and supporting for real-time operations have not been solved properly. We propose a smart home foundation scheme adopting open source hardware devices and cloud computing technology to explore these issues. In this scheme, arduino yun-based smart hardware devices can connect to the cloud server through multiply network connectivity. By utilising Spacebrew technology, a bidirectional real-time communication can be implemented which provides a solid foundation for real-time operations of smart home. The core functions of the scheme are exposed through RESTful web services in a SaaS (short for software as a service) manner and can be called by various clients and other applications. Demonstrative applications show that the proposed smart home foundation scheme provides adequate support for creating smart home applications based on wireless open source hardware devices.

The aim of this article is the design and implementation of intelligent irrigation devices using the arduino microcontroller. The control interface of the irrigation system was created as a mobile application. The currently existing various similar solutions are all from the perspective of money unprofitable. The present solution is very cheap and effective especially for home usage. Following the extension it can also be applied on a larger scale e.g. for buildings greenhouse, intelligent garden and others. We used these hardware components for realization: the microcontroller arduino yun, real-time clock DS1302, two humidity sensors, relays and solenoid valves. The application for controlling irrigation device using mobile technology was created in the programming language Java. This easy smart irrigation system can be controlled by smart-phone or tablet with operating systems Android 4 and above. Reactions and all functions of proposed intelligent system were verified with statistical surveyes. The results were evaluated by using technics of explorating analysis and non parametric Levene's test. By analysis we can determine the reliability of the irrigation equipment and so clarify the behavior of the system for the existence of systematic and random errors.

A portable, real-time, wireless indoor air monitoring system is designed using the arduino yun platform. Because of the importance of a clean indoor environment on human health, the proposed prototype is designed to monitor the temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and miniature dust particles. The arduino yun platform incorporates an MCU that acquires and sends the data to a Wi-Fi chipset, serving as the communication bridge between the server and clients. Experimental results shows that temperature, humidity, concentration of VOCs and dust particle density can be detected in household with acceptable sensitivities, up to 50m away wirelessly, and charted in real-time with a HTML-5.0 enabled web browser. At the same time, all the historical data are stored in cloud.

Data acquisition systems (DAQs) have a significant role in acquiring data for convenient analysis. With the spread of the Internet of Things, DAQs with remote access are in high demand in industry. The massive usage of free cloud storage provides an opportunity to build a remote DAQ that provides accessible data around the world. In this paper, a remote setting and DAQ for a fuel cell stack are presented. A prototype was made using arduino yun, sensors, and actuators. A data server from Flask Python was built using the Linux side processor of arduino yun. Then, the acquired data were sent to Google Drive and saved as Spreadsheets files. A user interface (UI) based on HTML was provided in Google Sites. The UI was used to display the data in table and graph form as well as to set the timing values of the purge valve. Google Apps Script was used to manage data communication with arduino yun and also manage the data stored on Google Drive. The proposed system takes 3 s to send data from arduino to Google Drive, while the time taken to update the purge valve time values is 6 s.

The Growth in computer technology in all the facets of the world, and life are growing to the point that everyone needs a computer to carry out their work in everyday life. While using the computer for long hours, little is cared about posture, resulting in body ache and some harmful everlasting effects on the body. Computer users can protect themselves from those health risks by implementing proper workplace design and good posture. Ergonomics is the science of designing the workplace, with respect to the capabilities and limitations of the worker. Computer vision syndrome is a term used specifically to describe vision related problems and the other symptoms caused by continuous computer use. Work stress also results in an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Remotely monitoring a patient's health condition is now easily possible with the use of sensors, actuators and mobile communication devices, combined together called as Internet of Things for Medical Devices. The arduino yun is a Microcontroller board having built-in Ethernet and Wi-Fi support and can be connected to a vast array of web-based Resource and services with the use of Temboo, a cloud-based platform with processes for APIs, databases, and more. The parameters considered under Ergonomic workspace like distance between user and computer, angle with which the computer screen should be positioned can be analysed using Ultrasonic and Accelerometer sensors;while pulse sensor to analyse heart rate under work pressure. The Microcontroller board processes the received sensor data and can alert the user through an SMS or mail to take certain precautionary measures if the desired threshold limit is not satisfied.

Internet of Things(IoT) is a widely emerging technology making our lives smarter with smart applications. One of its applications is smart home where any device or object at home can be made smart and can be controlled via internet or in a local network. All recent projects in smart home are using IPv4 for addressing, as we know IPv4 addresses are getting depleted at faster rate as there is increase in connected devices. This problem of IPv4 depletion can be solved by using IPv6 protocol for addressing. IPv6 protocol stack can't be embedded directly into the microcontroller as microcontroller has limited hardware capability to run existing IPv6 protocol stack. This paper proposes a solution to build a smart control centre with arduino yun to facilitate IPv6 addressing then using this smart control centre to control devices over wifi interface through web browser on laptops, desktops and smart phones.
