Ambulatory Health Monitoring System Using Wireless Sensors Node

In this paper, we propose an improvement of our previous work in this field by developing a heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure monitor system based on new arduino Mega micro-system device. It offers the advantage of portability over old embedded system (tape-based recording systems). The paper focus on: how we implemented algorithms to analyze heart beat rate signals in real-time, how to fusion data of different sensors mainly here temperature and blood pressure and to transmit the data via radio frequency (Xbee module). Then explain a web server application for healthcare givers to access the data. In addition, it allows doctors to get the heart beat rate file of the patient by email every twenty four hours. It can also be used to control patients or athletic person over a long period. The system reads, stores and analyses the heart beat rate signals, body temperature repetitively in real-time. The hardware and software design are oriented towards a single-chip microcontroller-based system, hence minimizing the size. The important features of this paper are the implementation of extremums and energy in the algorithm to compute patient heart rate and detect any anomaly within the P wav in ECG signal. The first tests were encouraging.

Design of a Portable and Reliable Fluorimeter with High Sensitivity for Molecule Trace Analysis

There is a growing need for portable, highly sensitive measuring equipment to analyze samples in situ and in real time. For these reasons, it is becoming increasingly important to research new experimental equipment to carry out this work with advanced, robust and low-cost devices. In this framework, a flexible, portable and low-cost fluorimeter (under EUR 500), based on a C12880 MA MEMS micro-spectrometer with an arduino compatible breakout board, has been developed for the trace analysis of biological substances. The proposed system can employ two selectable excitation sources for flexibility, one in the visible region at 405 nm (incorporated in the board) and an external LED at 365 nm in the UV region. This additional excitation source can be easily interchanged, varying the LED type for investigating any fluorophore compound of interest. The measurement process is micro-controlled, which allows the precise control of the spectrometer sensitivity by adjusting the integration time of each experiment separately. Data acquisition is easy, reliable and interfaced with a spreadsheet for fast spectra visualization and calculations. For testing the performance of the new device in fluorescence measurements, different fluorophore molecules which can be commonly found in biological samples, such as Fluorescein, Riboflavin, Quinine, Rhodamine b and Ru (II)-bipyridyl, have been employed. A high sensitivity and low quantitation limits (in the ppb range) have been found in all cases for the investigated chemicals. The portable device is also suitable for the study of other interesting phenomena, such as fluorescence quenching induced by chemical agents (such as halide anions or even auto-quenching). In this sense, an application for the quantification of chloride anions in aqueous solutions has been performed obtaining a LOD value of 18 ppm. Theoretical analysis and real time implementation of a classical controller with intelligent properties

This paper presents theoretical analysis and experimental implementation of a classical controller with intelligent properties. The controller has constant parameters, but it performs as an intelligent controller. The controller design mimics the fuzzy logic controller in a classical form and combines the advantages of classical controllers and properties of intelligent controllers. The designed controller parameters force the controlled variable to behave such as a first order system with a desired time constant. DC motor practical system is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented controller. Root locus and frequency response using Bode diagram are used to help the design of the controller parameters. Simulation and experimental results verify the high performance of the presented controller.

New Approach on Development a Dual Axis Solar Tracking Prototype

To track the sun in two directions that is elevation and azimuth, a dual-axis tracking prototype is developed to capture the maximum sun rays by tracking the movement of the sun in four different directions. One axis is azimuth which allows the solar panel to move left and right. The other axis is elevation and allows the panel to turn up and down. The result of this new development provides the solar panels with extensive freedom of movement. This new approach will make use of the Light Depending Resistor (LDR) which is important to detect the sun light by following the source of the sun light location. AutoCAD software is being used to design the draft in 2-dimension (2D) for the hardware dual axis solar tacker. Sketch Up software is being used to sketch the drawing to be more real in 3-dimension (3D). Proteus software is being used to design the circuit for the arduino UNO microcontrollers and H-BridgeIC chip. This implemented system can save more energy and probably offers more reduction in cost. The paper discusses the process of hardware development and the control process of tracking the sun, as well as the circuit design.

In this study, an internet of things (IoT)-enabled fuzzy intelligent system is introduced for the remote monitoring, diagnosis, and prescription of treatment for patients with COVID-19. The main objective of the present study is to develop an integrated tool that combines IoT and fuzzy logic to provide timely healthcare and diagnosis within a smart framework. This system tracks patients' health by utilizing an arduino microcontroller, a small and affordable computer that reads data from various sensors, to gather data. Once collected, the data are processed, analyzed, and transmitted to a web page for remote access via an IoT-compatible Wi-Fi module. In cases of emergencies, such as abnormal blood pressure, cardiac issues, glucose levels, or temperature, immediate action can be taken to monitor the health of critical COVID-19 patients in isolation. The system employs fuzzy logic to recommend medical treatments for patients. Sudden changes in these medical conditions are remotely reported through a web page to healthcare providers, relatives, or friends. This intelligent system assists healthcare professionals in making informed decisions based on the patient's condition.

A portable and low-cost solution for real-time manipulation of the vestibular sense

Background: The vestibular system encodes head motion in space which is naturally accompanied by other sensory cues. Electrical stimuli, applied across the mastoid processes, selectively activate primary vestibular afferents which has spurred clinical and biomedical applications of electrical vestibular stimulation (EVS). When properly matched to head motion, EVS may also manipulate the closed-loop relationship between actions and vestibular feedback to reveal the mechanisms of sensorimotor recalibration and learning. New method: We designed a portable, low-cost real-time EVS system using an arduino microcontroller programmed through Simulink that provides electrical currents based on head angular motion. We used well-characterized vestibular afferent physiological responses to head angular velocity and electrical current to compute head-motion equivalent of real-time modulatory EVS currents. We also examined if our system induced recalibration of the vestibular system during human balance control. Results: Our system operated at 199.997 Hz ( +/- 0.005 Hz) and delivered head-motion-equivalent electrical currents with similar to 10 ms delay. The output driving the current stimulator matched the implemented linear model for physiological vestibular afferent dynamics with minimal background noise (<0.2% of +/- 10 V range). Participants recalibrated to the modulated closed-loop vestibular feedback using visual cues during standing balance, replicating earlier findings. Comparison with existing methods: EVS is typically used to impose external perturbations that are independent of one's own movement. We provided a solution using open-source hardware to implement a real-time, physiology based, and task-relevant vestibular modulations using EVS. Conclusions: Our portable, low-cost vestibular modulation system will make physiological closed-loop vestibular manipulations more accessible thus encouraging novel investigations and biomedical applications of EVS.

Open-source Internet of Things remote aquatic environmental sensing

This paper details the physical and hardware design of a flexible open-source IoT (Internet of Things) platform for environmental sensing. The application is a remote water quality monitoring buoy that can be deployed in calm, shallow near-shore aquatic environments with fresh or brackish water. The system's development has been informed by experience through conducting multiple actual water quality studies over a prolonged period. The sys-tem runs an arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller using off-the-shelf Adafruit lux and tem-perature sensors. A light attenuation turbidity sensor is adapted and integrated into the design. A TinySine 3G GSM module transmits data to a server that is displayed via a ThingsBoard IoT dashboard. The system is stable over time, provides reliable remote sensor readings, has low energy consumption, and is powered by renewable energy (up-cycled batteries). The hardware aspires to be general-purpose so that future environmental mon-itoring applications can repurpose the electronics by adding new compatible sensors and modifying the physical design to match the requirements. EmerSense: A low-cost multiparameter logger to monitor occurrence and duration of emersion events within intertidal zones

The intertidal zone is a harsh environment for marine life as conditions are often both extreme and variable. A wide range of sessile organisms are partially or fully emersed (ex-posed above the water line) during low tide. In the tropics, when corals are emersed, high light and temperature can be detrimental to their survival. To date, there is no commercially-available logger that can detect periods of emersion, information that is use-ful for marine research and for coastal resource management. Here, we present a low-cost arduino-based multi-parameter logger called 'EmerSense' which can detect instances of emersion while simultaneously recording light and temperature profiles. We describe the different steps involved in fabricating EmerSense, including hardware construction and software design, and discuss the results of our field testing at an intertidal coral reef in Singapore.& COPY;2023 The Author(s). A very serious problem has been identified for past many years that paralyzed human beings became isolated from the society for not having a proper existence and due to their reluctances of doing normal life works. Therefore, we have researched on the Human Machine Interaction using Physical Human Body Gestures and came up to proposed solution of the said issue as Low Cost Retina Controlled Computer Using Head mount and Wrist Tilt for Persons who are Paralyzed and cannot be able to move their hands and even they can’t able to walk. Conventionally, we named it as simple as Retina Controlled Computer, is based on Google Glass vision using motion recognition, Zigbee Wireless Technology, Retina Controlled Device that allows human beings with paralysis resulting from Paralysis to do everything on computer even controlling the personal mobile phone using only their Eye and Head movements. This whole project will be based mainly on the new technology of Low Cost Wireless Zigbee Sensors, arduino microcontrollers, and motion and retina recognition using Accelerometer. arduino microcontroller consists of an open-source hardware board designed around an 8-bit Atmel AVR microcontroller, or a 32-bit Atmel ARM. Therefore, making an Intelligent Low Cost Eye Controlled Computer, based on new technologies will play a vital role in revolutionizing the field of Biomedical engineering and opening the new horizons of research.

Today, many industrial and domestic electronic appliances and equipment (devices) are exposed to power disturbances such as voltage variations of the AC mains supply which often lead to damage of the electronic devices. As these devices are quite sensitive to power disturbances, there is a need for a tripping system that can help avoid any damage to devices in use. The objective of this work is to build a system that monitors line voltage and protects appliances from unacceptable voltage variations. The system consists of a tripping mechanism that monitors the input voltage and trips according to the limits provided. An arduino Uno microcontroller is used to determine the voltage level through a voltage divider circuit. The system’s novelty and innovation lie in its flexibility. It offers the user the ability to define different overvoltage and undervoltage threshold values depending on the specific appliances used in the household. In operation, the system displays the voltage state (overvoltage, normal voltage, overvoltage) and alerts the user by sending an SMS via a GSM modem. The system is valuable for industrial and domestic applications, especially in developing economies such as those of Sub-Saharan Africa, where overvoltage and undervoltage are acute problems.
