In this work, the 3D printed silicone microfluidic systems with simultaneous laser-scattering detection for turbidimetric and nephelometric measurements are presented. As a model reaction, the Exton method for total protein determination has been chosen as the well-known analytical protocol. Presented research is a development of recently presented idea of Silicone Optical Technology (SOT). It can be considered as the next step for all-in-one 3D printed analytical system concept, which means that microfluidic platform as well as detection system parts can be constructed during one-step manufacturing process. During the investigations, three microfluidic platforms with different flow-mixing patterns were designed and optimized for flow rate and sample injection volume. The most promising system with so-called 3D mixing (mixing channel along three axes) was characterized by analytical parameters sufficient for total protein analysis: limit of detection of 3 mg/L, linearity in the range of 16 - 400 mg/L and 50 mu L sample consumption. The analytical usefulness of developed microfluidic platform was proved by analysis of urine samples. Furthermore, the design and setting up of double detection system based on arduino microcontroller have been discussed.

Application of a frequency inverter in irrigated perimeters: A case study for irrigation automation

The wide variation in water demand and pressure means that most irrigated perimeter pumping systems are oversized. The objective of this study was to control a pressurized irrigation system using a frequency inverter, aiming at automation and energy savings in irrigated perimeters. First, a prototype was assembled using drawer valves to simulate head losses in the system. Second, a frequency inverter was used to control the speed of the rotation of the motor pump, improving its performance. Finally, a microcontroller was used to manage the number of plots under irrigation in the perimeter. The frequency inverter reduced the consumed power by 40, 30 and 19% and the electric power consumption per hour by 46, 38 and 23% for one, two and three plots under irrigation, respectively. The use of the inverter frequency led to a reduction in operating points for all irrigation plot scenarios evaluated. The use of the frequency inverter is justified when the full power of the pump is not always required and adjustment of the rotation speed is necessary. In addition, the proposed automation system proved to be efficient in managing the rotation control of the frequency inverter.

The development of an automatic headlight beam control system is a significant leap in automotive safety and efficiency. This system aims to automatically regulate headlight beams, addressing issues of driver visibility and nocturnal traffic accidents caused by improperly controlled high beams. Machine learning-based approaches have gained traction in addressing these concerns, but their high-cost limits accessibility, especially in developing nations with prevalent nocturnal driving accidents. To bridge this accessibility gap, our study proposes a cost-effective sensor-based arduino controlled headlight beam luminance intensity control system applicable to a wide range of vehicles. Key features include a beam transition alert and the integration of a radar sensor to detect moving objects triggering a headlight beam switch. Field trials confirm the feasibility of this adapted sensor-based approach, although limitations related to the range of the light-dependent resistor (LDR) sensor are acknowledged. Future research should explore the integration of long-range LDR sensors for enhanced functionality. As technology evolves, we anticipate more sophisticated iterations, promising transformative changes in nighttime driving for the benefit of all road users.

Increasing the efficiency of water supply networks is essential in arid and semi-arid regions to ensure the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants. The cost of renovating these systems is high. However, customized management models can facilitate the maintenance and rehabilitation of hydraulic infrastructures by optimizing the use of resources. The implementation of current Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring systems allows decisions to be based on objective data. In water supply systems, IoT helps to monitor the key elements to improve system efficiency. To implement IoT in a water distribution system requires sensors that are suitable for measuring the main hydraulic variables, a communication system that is adaptable to the water service companies and a friendly system for data analysis and visualization. A smart pressure monitoring and alert system was developed using low-cost hardware and open-source software. An arduino family microcontroller transfers pressure gauge signals using Sigfox communication, a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN). The IoT ThingSpeak platform is used for data analysis and visualization. Additionally, the system can send alarms via SMS/email in real time using the If This, Then That (IFTTT) web service when anomalous pressure data are detected. The pressure monitoring system was successfully implemented in a real water distribution network in Spain. It was able to detect both breakdowns and leaks in real time.

This article presents the results of a pedagogical experiment when teaching microcontroller programming. The pedagogical experiment was conducted at the Faculty of Information Technology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in the form of project-based seminars on the arduino platform (2017-2020). The experiment was attended by 88 first-year IT students. Our goal in this study is to verify the proposed hypothesis on the use of the project-based learning method in teaching microcontroller programming. In the process of conducting a pedagogical experiment, we divided our students into 2 groups: control and experimental. The training of both groups was carried out according to one curriculum, but using different methods. In the control group, traditional teaching methods and learning tools were used, and in the experimental group, we used the technology of project-based learning. As assessment criteria, we took the test tasks "pre-test" and "post-test" that we developed and conducted a survey for the control and experimental groups. We used statistical methods to confirm or refute the proposed hypothesis of our research, that is, at the end of the pedagogical experiment to get an informed decision about the difference and coincidence of the obtained data.

This paper presents the design and the implementation of a smart meter for prepaid electricity using an arduino microcontroller, a global system for mobile communication (GSM) module, and a liquid crystal display (LCD). The smart meter allows users to remotely recharge their meter after purchasing prepaid electricity using a mobile phone. It also allows the meter owner to receive notifications about the level of prepaid credit available in the meter, the meter status, and a threshold for recharge notifications. This paper also discusses the advantages of the proposed system to customers, and the utility company, as well as some of the challenges encountered, and provides recommendations to various stakeholders.

A quick, cheap, and portable system for measuring accurately basic electrical characteristics of electronic devices is presented-using common off-the-shelf components linked through a simple breadboard. The system is controlled using a MATLAB app that communicates to an arduino Nano that, in turn, controls two AD5761 16-bit, 20-V, digital-to-analog converters and an INA219 high-side shunt sensor for driving the voltage and measuring the current through a device under test (DUT). The raw data from the system are plotted in real time in MATLAB and are automatically saved to *** file based on the current date and time. For higher current devices (above 10 mA), a simple direct-wired connection between the DUT and the measurement circuit effectively eliminates the breadboard parasitic resistance. With these techniques, the system introduced here shows a negligible difference to the data measured using a Keithley 2410 sourcemeter and a B1500 semiconductor parameter analyzer, thereby presenting a cheap and reproducible alternative to high-end instruments for measuring two- and three-terminal devices.

Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects where data is collected through sensors from the physical world, transferred and handled through the Internet and scientific reactions are put back to real-world finally. As an important application area of IoT, smart home device leads a hot trend to facilitate our daily life and operate with more scientific and rational decisions than the human being. However, targets of the existing smart home devices are rarely animals or pets that involve significantly in modern life, and even less attention is given to uncommon pet varieties such as aquatic animals, amphibians and reptiles. To tackle this issue, this paper proposed a tortoise smart home device as an IoT application example to let pet tortoises enjoy a better living environment and make owners less worried about tortoises' life even if they are away from their pets. Considering habits of tortoises, the tortoise smart home device combines five main functions - temperature, land-water swap, water filtration, feeding and lighting, together with a website for owners' remote control and monitor. Design strategies and implementation details (including versions of arduino microcontroller and different kinds of sensors and actuators) are demonstrated in the paper. Moreover, further ideas about how to easily extend the device and functions applicable for other pet varieties are also brought out.

Virtual Reality (VR) has stolen the technology spotlight in the new era of innovation. It provides excitement and a thrilling sense of presence. VR headsets have emerged from being a concept into a reality people look forward to experience. While gaming is one of the primary uses for VR technology, other forms of entertainment exist. Theater audiences will be able to watch movies on a large virtual screen that is more like their own theater. VR also serves as a cost-effective and attractive tool for rehabilitation. Virtual exercises help in motivating patients to practice everyday activities. Beside the health care industry, developers have turned to the fitness industry as well, where they promote exercising with VR. Combining VR and exercising will attain remarkable results. In this paper we introduce the VR-Bike;a system that combines the fun of VR gaming with the fitness of exercising on a bicycle. This is achieved by connecting a microcontroller with sensors on an exercise bike to a VR game developed in Unreal Engine.

With its new avenues, Internet of Things is bringing immense value and potential to the life style of masses. One of the important applications is managing and tracking large fleet which falls under domain of effective transportation and logistics. In this paper a framework has been proposed for real time fleet tracking system. This framework is composed of GPS, GSM and microcontroller technologies. The key features of the system are real-time location tracking, an open-source GIS platform, flexibility and a web-based user interface provided at the base station. A prototype of the proposed system is implemented. Our system prototype is experimentally tested for many trips in Delhi NCR region of North India. The system has been found stable and robust. Targeted fleet has been accurately tracked and its location has been transmitted to the server in real time. Further, with the capabilities of geofencing, functionality of traccar server, its user friendly interface the system is serving the purpose of ubiquitious fleet tracking system providing maximum accessibility for user anytime and anywhere.
