Irrigation sector consumes more than 80% of the fresh water resources in India. The irrigation efficiencies of the major irrigation systems in India are around 40%, increasing of which could save large amounts of water. The irrigation efficiencies could be increased through the adoption of cost-effective and efficient irrigation technologies, which will reduce water demands, increase agricultural production, minimize soil and water pollution and reduce the cost of agricultural production. Drip/Trickle irrigation is a highly efficient irrigation method which could save tremendous amounts of water when adopted in the place of the wild flooding irrigation. Pulse drip irrigation technology enables lower application rates - that will permit sufficient aeration in the root zone and alleviate plant stress due to inadequate root respiration– from an emitter with a higher application rate by intermittent water applications. This study attempted to develop and evaluate a sensor based automated pulse drip irrigation system which is affordable to the lowincome farmers of the nation. The soil properties of the experimental field were used to estimate the parameters of several soil water characteristics curve (SWCC) models. Among the models; van Genuchten (1980) model of SWCC, was found to be the best in representing the soil moisture retention characteristics of the soil used in the study. An open-source electronics platform, the arduino was used for the development of the automation system using moisture content sensors and solenoid irrigation valves controlled through relays, by writing program coding in the arduino programming language. The sensors were calibrated to read the moisture content, which was compared to the management allowed deficit (MAD) and field capacity (FC) soil moisture content values to control the start and stop of irrigation water application. In the paper, the background radiation monitoring system has been developed. It has been built on the arduino uno microcontroller board, Geiger-Mueller counters, alphanumeric LCD module and high-voltage power supply module for counters. The system measures power of the equivalent radiation dose and accumulated dose and outputs the information via the serial port to PC, and also sends warning signals when the equivalent dose rate is exceeded.

The presented fire suppression mechanism is a self-monitoring system that detects the existence of fire between a specific range of wavelength and suppresses the fire by spreading water flowing via multiple sprinkler-heads. The controlling unit used to manipulate the fire suppression mechanism is an arduino uno. The major advantage of this system is its capability to detect fire fast and run water through dedicated pipes using solenoid valve. Fire is an undesirable event that could cause a great loss of social wealth, human life, and confidential amenities. To prevent these losses, various extinguishing systems have already been developed, such as sprinkler heads with temperature sensitive valve and temperature sensor based systems. These systems come with a high chance of delayed sensing and human error that can mislead the sensing and hence the whole system in general. Our fire suppression system, on the other hand, is extremely well thought out;it has no chance of human error as it is fully self-sufficient. The room or the area will have dedicated overhead sprinklers connected to the water supply through its dedicated solenoid valve which controls the flow of water in the pipelines. The triggering devices of this system are the flame sensors, when they detect fire an alarm will go off. The Algorithm set in the arduino will come into work and an optimal voltage will be provided to the solenoid valve through a relay, hence water will rush out the sprinklers to extinguish the fire in no time. The sensors used are highly sensitive[ 5], thus it will detect fire even before it reaches a point of concern. Unlike other systems, the components we used are readily available and reasonable in price. Also, the system has been tested to extinguish fire in real-world scale. Our automated fire suppression system can be used both for commercial and residential purposes.

This paper presents the design and construction of a small obstacle avoiding robot based on arduino uno, a Bluetooth module and programming tools. The robot is a small mobile machine that avoids obstacles and it does so through an ultrasonic sensor that will detect the distance of the objects in front of it and make decision about its trajectory. When approaching a certain distance, the arduino uno will send a signal and with the help of a bridge H will cause the engines to turn the car and therefore avoid the obstacle. The bridge H helps the controller to turn the car whatever direction required. The evasion of obstacles is a fundamental characteristic for robot operation. With this characteristic taken care of, future robots with more complex functionality can perform its work without getting stuck in the middle due to some obstacle they have encountered along the way. Throughout the document different requirements of both hardware and software for the robot operation are explained, the proposed design is presented and finally results and conclusions are shown.

Development of a low-cost PV system using an improved INC algorithm and a PV panel Proteus model

This paper proposes a photovoltaic (PV) model for the design of PV systems with a simple MPPT to achieve high efficiency, faster response and low cost. First, a PV panel model is developed using SPICE code in Proteus tool. The verification and the validation are performed via an experimental test bench. Afterwards, a new modified Incremental Conductance (INC) algorithm is introduced. The proposed algorithm avoids the high number of the mathematical divisions used in the conventional INC. Both methods are implemented in the low-cost arduino uno board using the simulated PV panel model. The results show that the modified method presents good performances regarding response time (0.1 s), steady-state oscillation, and efficiency (98.5%). To validate the proposed system, a hardware testbench is implemented using the low-cost ATMega328 microcontroller in the arduino uno board. Substantial cost reduction has been attained proving the financial competitiveness of the proposed controller. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New innovation in technology has led to a lot of improvement in medical devices and system. A traditional method used in healthcare has a lot of concerns which need to be eliminated to make human life more comfortable and hassle free. With the advent of internet world has been changing rapidly. Internet of Things is said to be next big thing in technology. The combination of raspberry pi which is a small Linux computer with Internet of Things has a great potential to be used in design and construction of a healthcare system which would completely change the way healthcare is provided nowadays. A system which consists of sensors to take health parameters like temperature and heart beat as input has been designed and proposed. Input taken from sensor are processed in raspberry pi and displayed on LCD. The processed data are sent on internet on a server by creating a gateway on raspberry pi so that doctors can continuously monitor the health status of patient. A camera on the patient side is put so that patient live monitoring can be done on internet by doctor. An android application and a web application have been designed to access the sensor data whenever they wish so. The proposed model is compared with arduino uno board for validation.

A desktop customised 3D printer with dual extruders to produce electronic circuitry

3D printing has opened new horizons for the manufacturing industry in general, and 3D printers have become the tools for technological advancements. There is a huge divide between the pricing of industrial and desktop 3D printers with the former being on the expensive side capable of producing excellent quality products and latter being on the low-cost side with moderate quality results. However, there is a larger room for improvements and enhancements for the desktop systems as compared to the industrial ones. In this paper, a desktop 3D printer called Prusa Mendel i2 has been modified and integrated with an additional extruder so that the system can work with dual extruders and produce bespoke electronic circuits. The communication between the two extruders has been established by making use of the In-Chip Serial Program- ming port on the arduino uno controlling the printer. The biggest challenge is to control the flow of electric paint （to be dispensed by the new extruder） and CFD （Computa- tional Fluid Dynamics） analysis has been carried out to ascertain the optimal conditions for proper dispensing. The final product is a customised electronic circuit with the base of plastic （from the 3D printer＇s extruder） and electronic paint （from the additional extruder） properly dispensed to create a live circuit on a plastic platform. This low-cost enhancement to a desktop 3D printer can provide a new prospect to produce multiple material parts where the additional extruder can be filled with any material that can be properly dispensed from its nozzle.

Experimental assessment of LNC-based cooperative communication schemes using commercial off-the-shelf wireless sensor network nodes

The use of wireless sensor network nodes to support reliable communication exposes some challenging issues. For instance, the reduced available bandwidth combined with an error-prone communication medium impairs the provision of reliable communication services. Network coding techniques can be useful to mitigate some of these issues, where multiple message groups can be combined into single messages and retransmitted to their destinations, improving the network reliability and reducing the bandwidth consumption. However, an effective use of network coding requires the availability of wireless sensor network nodes able to encode/decode messages within the required timing constraints. This paper reports an experimental assessment of commercial off-the-shelf wireless sensor network nodes, running a set of network coding encoding/decoding tasks. The assessed nodes range from the high-performance ARM Cortex-M7 to the low capability arduino uno platforms, including some of the most popular ARM Cortex and ATMEL AVR processors. The performed experimental assessment demonstrates that highly complex network coding techniques (with fields as large as F28) can be efficiently implemented on a wide range of wireless sensor network nodes, including ARM Cortex, ATMEL AVR, and arduino uno platforms, smoothing some relevant reliable communication implementation issues.

针对目前课堂签到的效率还不是很高效的问题,我们设计了一款新型的防逃课识别装置。整个系统以arduino uno控制核心,通过AS608光学指纹识别模块将输入的指纹信息进行分析处理。arduino uno核心控制器结合程序发布的规定时间内的签到任务,通过蜂鸣器提醒学生将手指放在AS608模块上进行签到,超过规定时间系统关闭且不再记录指纹。老师则可以通过1602液晶显示模块,查看已签到人数和未签到人数,并且未签到人名单可以通过物联网导出相关表格。
