We introduce the design and preliminary implementation of low-cost brain-computer interface (BCI) to enable movement of a rolling robot. This system will accept and execute basic commands that are generated from three brain condition normal, relax, or happy. The brain condition is determined by brainwaves known as alpha, beta, and gamma waves. The brainwaves are detected using Mindflex, connected with arduino uno, and sent data transmission to computer via USB connection. Algorithm is developed using Matlab to analyze the data and send three simple commands to a rolling robot through WiFi connection. We conducted experiment for fifty times using 100 data for training and 50 data for testing, and obtained 62% of accuracy. This result shows that brainwave commands can be processed successfully for forward, turn left, and turn right movements. We have concluded that the system can be developed further to assist disabilities performing motions using their minds.

Electrical energy generation by using Photovoltaic system is becoming popular day by day. This paper presents a control topology for multilevel inverters used in standalone PV system. A hybrid technique is used to optimize the switching angles of thirteen levels single-phase cascaded multilevel inverter for selective harmonics elimination. The nonlinear transcendental equations problem is solved by dividing the whole system into two stages. In stage-I: it will find the convergence angles region by using Fmincon optimization technique and then in stage II it will find the accurate convergence point by using most common technique which is Newton Raphson (NR) method. This approach is fast, low cost, efficient and it produces very low total harmonics distortion. The ability of the proposed technique is simulated by using MATLAB and implemented on cascaded h-bridge circuits, opto-isolators and arduino uno microcontroller. The simulation and hardware results verify the capability of proposed technique.

This paper presents a holistic view of the concept of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) generally used and implemented for solar applications, so as to maximize the output for a conventional solar panel. This paper comprises of detailed study in the field of MPPT in a simulative environment using MATLAB and the same results are reproduced in hardware using Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm. Improvement in the performance of a conventional solar panel is seen through the simulation in terms of output voltage of the boost converter connected as the main DC-DC converter device. This is performed by changing the irradiance to the solar panel. The waveforms of current, voltage and thus the output power show its maximized value. The hardware results include the change in duty cycle with change in irradiance and thus signify the change in output voltage and current for a flyback converter controlled by the MPPT algorithm.

Many smart house systems have been presented, but there are still some limitations in terms of the high cost, less functionality, difficulty of use that are not satisfactorily reliable and cannot be developed. Therefore, the aim of this research project was to design and develop a prototype for a smart house system that is low cost, has a user-friendly interface, and is scalable and reliable by using an integrated system of hardware and software. The hardware, such as arduino uno, servo motors, a temperature sensor, a motion sensor and a battery, was utilized to develop the prototype of a smart house system. The software included arduino integrated development environment (IDE) to compile the code in hardware and using MIT App Inventor for Android mobile phones to interfacing a mobile handset with hardware. Moreover, In order to make the design of prototype more professional, Sweet Home 3D software was used. The system has been evaluated with the previous works and it was demonstrated to six experts to obtain some feedback on the prototype. The testing of the prototype demonstrated that the system was an integrated, practical and easy to use, and any new device could easily be installed into the system. The aim of this research project has been achieved successfully. However, the prototype requires further developments, which include the power supply reliability, use other wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and ZigBee, and cross-platform apps to work with differently operated systems such as iOS for people use Apple devices by using MIT App Inventor.
