One of the increasing public concerns is human health. It is very important to maintain good health. Some things will get upset if one gets sick and for this reason people are ready to spend money. This paper proposes an integrated, portable & convenient solution to monitor vital health parameters like body temperature & heart rate on a regular day to day basis. The device is designed using sensors to measure these parameters non-invasively. These sensors are connected to microcontroller board arduino uno which transmits data wirelessly via Bluetooth on user's android enabled smartphone. The results obtained are stored in the designed app, over a period of time. The patient details with the readings of the different parameters is transferred to the cloud. After each measurement, the results are compared with the threshold for each parameter. If the results are not as desired, then a summary with confirmed symptoms is displayed in the app. This summary can be uploaded on the cloud for consulting a remote doctor.

The aim of this thesis is to propose and produce prototype of active hand prosthesis. Prototype is based on myoelectric prosthesis principle, therefore it is meant to be controlled by EMG signals. In this specific case signals will be scanned from healthy arm. arduino uno development kit was chosen as the main controller. For measuring EMG muscle activity Shield EKG/EMG Olimax was selected.

Limited storage capacity of battery constricts the usefulness of most high technology devices such as cell phones, computers, and sensors. In the future, these limitations will become more pronounced as the demand for wireless power outpaces battery development which is already at its best. Thus, we need to come up with new power generation techniques which will be used as an energy source for the next generation of wearable computers, wireless sensors, and autonomous systems. Piezoelectric materials nowadays play a major role in the so called smart materials because of their ability to couple mechanical and electrical properties. The direct piezoelectric effect is that these materials, when subjected to mechanical stress, generate an electric charge proportional to that stress. The inverse piezoelectric effect is that these materials become strained when an electric field is applied, the strain again being proportional to the applied field. Piezoelectric materials are generally used as sensors and actuators. Piezoelectric energy generation at the sub-micron-scale have infinite scope for research and application in upcoming technologies. This paper presents a theoretical and experimental analysis to generate non-conventional energy using piezoelectric crystals to power wearable devices.

In this paper, the Dead Cell Extracted-Urine Powered Battery (DCE-UPB) Energy Harvesting system has been proposed. In DCE-UPB, energy is extracted by utilising trash primary cell and human liquid waste-urine. The DCE-UPB design consists of series-parallel combination of dead cell extracted- urine power single chambers. The single chamber cell consists of manganese as substrate along with the urine as electrolyte. The single cell of the proposed system also consists of two electrodes anode and cathode. The single cell of the proposed system has been tested and verified with various electrodes. The two suitable pair of electrodes have been selected i.e. copper/zinc and carbon rod/zinc. Each row consists of 12 cells connected in series and each cell produces an output of 0.85V and 1.2V corresponding to Cu-Zn and C-Zn electrodes respectively. The total output of the system is 10.61V for 145 hours and maximum current spike observed is 42mA. The power output is well enough to drive low power applications. In this proposed system, a LED has been used as low power load and driven by DCE-UPB.

Experimental Study on Temperature Measurement in Turning Operation of Hardened Steel (EN36)

In metal cutting, the temperature measurement of cutting tool is being influenced by cutting factors, especially in continuous cutting operation. Since the life of the cutting tool material strongly depends upon cutting temperature, it is important to predict heat generation in tool with reliable techniques. In this study, cutting tool's average temperature was investigated by placing analog K-type thermocouple sensor in cutting tool. CNMG4325 Grade TN2000 Coated carbide insert with shim has been taken as cutting tool and round bar of EN36 hardened steel as work piece. The Data acquisition has been done with bridging of Amplifier and LabVIEW software through arduino uno R3 controller board. According to the mathematical model and equations, generated by CCD based RSM, experiments were performed and cutting temperature was obtained. Results have been analyzed and optimization has been carried out for selecting cutting parameters.

Timing is critical when trying to engage students in various engineering career paths. While many "National Engineers Week" programs exist for primary and middle school students, there is a lack of hands on activities for students in the 9th-12th grades. It is often difficult to devise experiments for this age group that are interesting and not juvenile. Yet, it is during these crucial years that most students are lost to science, math and engineering. Engaging students and presenting opportunities for invention and excitement is important in the teen years, when peer pressure and the distractions of friends, social events, and activities are particularly high.(1). There are a number of open source programming and affordable hardware platforms that can be used to implement low cost and interactive programs to promote innovation with various age groups. In this paper we share our work, as well as our learnings on how to make the workshops more effective. We have created various arduino projects that can be customized to grade levels ranging from grades 7-12, and even college undergraduate students. The various projects we describe in this paper have been used to interact with students of different grade levels to engage in basic elements of engineering and computer programming. The classes should be set up to work in groups to promote shared innovation, teamwork and collaboration with peers. The open source and hardware experimenting exposed the students to various career paths ranging from software engineer, to electronic engineers and basic elements of various other engineering paths. This paper is designed to demonstrate the promotion of the engineering profession in schools through the use of arduino uno, Raspberry Pi Gemma kits, and Flora kits. The programs are also designed to accommodate classroom setting, workshops, or as an in-class field trip.

A healthcare monitoring system is designed which can be used in the hospitals to monitor people who need to an intensive care. This system can be implemented on many biological signals. ECG signal is selected for put in practice in this work. Since ECG signal is measured in mille volt, it needs to be amplified. Also it is a noisy signal, so it needs to be filtered. ECG acquisition part contains AD620 Instrumentation Amplifier due to its low current noise. The network of patients nodes are require to be available in the intensive care room for measurement. A base node collects these many signals to be monitored in the nursing room. For wireless transmitreceive, nRF24L01+ wireless module is used. ATmega328 MCU in the arduino uno board is used in all node. LabVIEW software is programmed to display ECG signals as a waveform chart. For transferring ECG signals to the remote doctor, a Web Pager tool in the LabVIEW program is employed. So the remote doctor could be check his patients condition through internet. The system was implemented for three nodes.

Many smart house systems have been presented, but there are still some limitations in terms of the high cost, less functionality, difficulty of use that are not satisfactorily reliable and cannot be developed. Therefore, the aim of this research project was to design and develop a prototype for a smart house system that is low cost, has a user-friendly interface, and is scalable and reliable by using an integrated system of hardware and software. The hardware, such as arduino uno, servo motors, a temperature sensor, a motion sensor and a battery, was utilized to develop the prototype of a smart house system. The software included arduino integrated development environment (IDE) to compile the code in hardware and using MIT App Inventor for Android mobile phones to interfacing a mobile handset with hardware. Moreover, In order to make the design of prototype more professional, Sweet Home 3D software was used. The system has been evaluated with the previous works and it was demonstrated to six experts to obtain some feedback on the prototype. The testing of the prototype demonstrated that the system was an integrated, practical and easy to use, and any new device could easily be installed into the system. The aim of this research project has been achieved successfully. However, the prototype requires further developments, which include the power supply reliability, use other wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and ZigBee, and cross-platform apps to work with differently operated systems such as iOS for people use Apple devices by using MIT App Inventor.

Mosquitoes and other insects are harmful for humans as they can cause many diseases which are harmful for human health. In order to avoid the mosquitoes, people use chemical repellents which affect the environment adversely or mosquito repeller skin creams can create skin problems. This paper proposes the smart ultrasonic insect repelling system driven by harvesting energy from solar panels. The ultrasonic waves have frequencies more than 20,000 Hz which are inaudible to humans but when insects come in the contact with ultrasonic waves, they sense the waves from special hair or sensilla present on the antennae of mosquitoes which will create stress on the nervous system and jam their own ultrasonic frequency and force them to leave that area. The frequency ranges of 38-44 kHz can be used effectively to repel the mosquitoes and flies. The system employs solar panel as energy source to charge the rechargeable 12V battery which is used to drive the arduino uno to turn on and turn off the mosquito repeller system. The proposed smart mosquito repeller system can be used to repel mosquitos from within the area of 125 square meters.

In this research paper we propose embedded system based wireless pole climbing robot for multipurpose applications. This can be a great boon for electrical technicians who has to climb the pole in order to carry our repair works related to power transmission lines, for climbing trees etc., in countries developing nations like India, Bangladesh, Srilanka etc. Initially we pair smart phone with Bluetooth module connected to embedded system which is part of the robot. Then using the graphical interface in android app we can give instructions to move up or down or to stop moving. These commands are received by Bluetooth module and give corresponding instructions to arduino of the embedded system board, which, depending on the code in it drives the motor driver accordingly. In this work we explain in detail about the working of wireless control of motors, how the app developed using MIT appinventor, model of the pole climbing robot.
