A smart home/house is an advanced, automated home. In other words it is a home that constitutes advanced automation systems to provide the occupants with sophisticated monitoring and controlling over the different functions of the building. By applying smart home technology we can enjoy comfort, can save energy and can make better security. In this paper a study on different types of home automation control has done and then less expensive and better efficient system has been proposed. The proposed smart home system which we are going to discuss consists of arduino uno micro-controller. The controllers are capable of monitoring and controlling different appliances in the home automatically in response to the signals comes from the related sensors. The proposed system is able to monitor and control lights, room temperature, alarms and other household appliances. A hardware implementation with MATLAB-GUI platform for the proposed system is carried out to support the usefulness of the proposed technique and the reliability of the system is introduced. The proposed system is a cost effective, flexible and simple model.

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is a label-free method of molecular detection of particular interest for biomedical applications. We aim to create a hand-held, easy to use EIS measurement device, for biomolecular detection. Electrochemical cyclic voltammetry systems help millions of diabetics monitor their blood glucose levels 2-8 times per day, but their use is very limited due to the poor lower limit of detection. The EIS technique can be used to detect a much larger array of biomolecules at very low concentration. Our EIS system generates the magnitude and phase of the impedance from test samples via MATLAB, which provides the real and imaginary components of the impedance. The circuit was integrated on a single chip and fabricated in a standard 0.5 mu m CMOS technology. A hand-held EIS measurement system was built using the chip and an arduino uno to measure a Randles circuit equivalent over the frequency range from 1 Hz to 2 kHz, the measurement and simulation results show excellent agreement.

This paper deals with various challenges faced by the visually impaired people in their daily life routines. Hence, it is strongly required to mitigate these challenges to increase their quality of life. A latest advancement in various areas of research and development give new hope to the visually impaired people. Many devices is available in the market which can detect obstacles and assist human but unfortunately the cost is too high, and training of these devices prevent them from taking the advantages of these available devices. This project aims to design and implement various units which are of low cost as well as user friendly and robust. The combination of ultrasonic sensor, water sensor and buzzer on arduino board result into a perfect portable hardware that can be mounted on gloves, shoes and cane. This can detect obstacles and water before it comes in contact with the user.

A number of situations exist where it is not possible for a human operator to do an activity on his/her own, due to a level of danger or difficulty involved. They may involve taking readings from an active volcano, entering a building on fire, diffusing a bomb, or collecting a radioactive sample. Rather than compromising on human lives, it is better to employ robotic systems for performing difficult tasks. Robotic systems are far superior in ensuring the accuracy of the system under adverse circumstances wherein a human operator may lose his/her composure and focus. Here we propose to build a robotic arm controlled by natural human arm movements whose data is acquired through the use of potentiometers mounted at the joints on a human arm. The development of this arm is based on arduino platform.

This paper proposes a method to design an Electronic Hand Glove which would help deaf and blind people to communicate easily. There are around 285 million visually impaired people in the world and 900,000 deaf and mutes. They use sign language to communicate with others. But it's very difficult to use and understand this sign language as it contains approximately 6000 gestures. The model uses 26 gestures of hand to communicate alphabets and 10 more gestures to communicate numbers. This would help the deaf person to communicate with others by typing text on LCD screen through hand gestures. The text is converted into speech so that the blind person could hear and communicate.

Communication is the major problem during catastrophe. To address this problem the technology called amateur radio is used. During calamities and natural disaster times, amateur radio is recurrently used as an emergency communication system when wired line, cell phones and other contemporary means of communications goes down. This paper shows the design and implementation of wireless transceiver based on amateur radio. It also describes the concept of ham radio station. The blocks in transceiver can be exchanged to any other frequency band, so it is like a universal block design. The design of transceiver is made to work within 14 to 14.35 MHz high frequency spectrum of amateur radio. It outlines specially the transceiver and antenna used in ham station.

Home automation or known as smart home is a home which is equipped by a system for controlling and integrating electronic devices, such as lighting, home theather, CCTV (closed-circuit television), HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), motion sensor, security lock sensor for gates or doors, and etc. Its main purpose is to provide the improved simplicity, energy efficiency, higher security, and better feelings at home for the user benefits. Smart phone could be integrated as part of ring tone sensor for security door lock automation system. Therefore in this work, locking automation system using smart phone polyphonic tone sensor has been designed and implemented. A simple unlocking mechanism is explained as follows. The DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) module which has simply been programmed with arduino was used to receive the polyphonic tone signal which is embedded in smart phone system. Then that signal will be processed by arduino uno, so the solenoid will automatically unlock the door. But, after three seconds delay, it will lock again (protection system). However, this system still has some drawbacks, such as low security system, short working-range of sensitivity, and limited amount of password digits. Moreover, those limitations could be improved/solved in the near future.

This paper presents the design and performance analysis of an efficient solar energy harvesting single axis sun tracking system employing dynamic offset parabolic mirrored reflector dish to increase the efficiency of solar energy harvesting system. The performance of proposed solar energy harvesting system has been analyzed by comparing the output of proposed system with static solar panel and solar panel with static mirrored reflector system. It has been observed that proposed system is capable of harvesting more energy than static solar panel system and solar panel with static offset mirrored parabolic dish. The parabolic mirrored reflector dish is capable of reflecting the light radiations and focusing the reflected light at its focal point where solar panel has been placed to harvest the light energy efficiently. The clocked tracking system has been used to rotate the dish in the direction of motion of sun. The arduino uno controller has been employed to rotate the dish by step angle of 6.25 degree at periodic interval of 30 minutes during daytime between 6 AM to 6 PM. The energy harvesting system is autonomously operating the motor driven dish by harnessing a portion of harvested solar energy which is stored in rechargeable lead acid battery. The proposed solar energy harvesting system is capable of generating average output voltage of 7.822 volts and 6.144 mA. The proposed system is 81 percent more efficient than static solar panel system and 48.26 percent more efficient than solar panel with static reflector system. The proposed energy harvesting system can be efficiently employed for various applications like water heating, etc.

Over the past 5 years, there has been a tremendous rise in designing various prototypes for a 3D printer. While most of them concentrate on accuracy and speed, the cost has always been a concerning factor. In this paper, we present a novel cost effective setup which could be used for both the X and Y axis motion, which is required for either a 3D printer or a cutting machine which is widely used in any industry. The paper also concentrates on creating a CAD tool independent interface with inputs to the setup being given purely based on images drawn. This simplifies the process with the user not needing to have any computer knowledge at all. All image processing algorithms were designed and developed using Simulink - a part of MATLAB 2011b and controls to the setup were given using an arduino uno (ATmega328) Rev. 3 board, in turn creating a perfect embedded system setup.
