This article designs a lung cancer odor detection system with preconcentration function, which can be used to collect exhaled gas and predict lung cancer. Combining the adsorption characteristics of the preconcentration system, we analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the multiple phases of the experiment. An unsupervised cross-domain category difference maximization model is proposed to address the common drift problem in sensors for drift compensation. The proposed model considers the consistency of both marginal distribution and conditional distribution, improving the compensation performance of sensor drift by combining domain adaptation (DA) and Bayesian probability to maximize category information. For the information redundancy existing in sensor array, a new evaluation criterion based on mutual information (MI) is proposed, which reduces the amount of features and optimizes the sensor array by vectorizing them. The derived scheme solves the problem of both sensor drift and redundancy of array information simultaneously. The final experimental data indicate the effectiveness of the proposed design. The final experimental results show that the proposed modified class difference allotrope adaptation algorithm can achieve the recognition accuracy of 0.8644, which is the highest performance among the comparison algorithms, while the unmigrated data can only achieve the recognition accuracy of 0.5254. In terms of sensor optimization, the accuracy of the proposed array optimization method can reach 0.8983 on the data of two features from four sensors, and the optimal results can be achieved in the comparison of array optimization algorithms.

This paper describes the application of array optimization techniques in the near-field of a microphone array. It is shown that the optimum weights obtained for microphone spacing equal to a half wavelength are real, aside from the propagation delay, and inversely proportional to the distance from each microphone to the focal point, When the microphone spacing is less than half wavelength, the optimum weights are super-directive requiring both an amplitude and phase adjustment in addition to delay-and-sum beamforming, In the super-directive regime, the maximum array gain increases as the distance to the focal points decreases. The technique is suitable for applications where the source of interest is located in the near-field region but interfering sources are located farther from the array.

Wave energy converter array optimization: A genetic algorithm approach and minimum separation distance study

With the need to integrate renewable energy sources into the current energy portfolio and the proximity of power consumers to ocean coastlines, it is important to evaluate marine energy systems, specifically wave energy converters (WECs), as potential solutions for meeting electricity needs. The ability to model these systems computationally is vital to their eventual deployment. The power development, economics, grid integration requirements, operations and maintenance requirements, and ecological impacts must be understood before these devices are physically installed. However, the research area of WEC array optimization is young, and the few available results of previously implemented optimization methods are preliminary. The purpose of this work is to introduce a new WEC array optimization framework to explore systems-level concerns, specifically WEC layout and device spacing. A genetic algorithm approach that utilizes an analytical hydrodynamic model and includes an array cost model is presented, and the resulting optimal layouts for a preliminary test case are discussed. This initial work is integral in providing an understanding of device layout and spacing and is a foundational starting point for subsequent and more advanced WEC array optimization research.

Proposal of a novel analytical wake model and array optimization of oscillating wave surge converter using differential evolution algorithm

Oscillating wave surge converters (OWSCs) have been extensively used to exploit wave energy. To maximize the energy output from an OWSC array, layout optimizations must be conducted;therefore, an analytical wake model of OWSC is needed for fast optimization iterations. However, no wake model of OWSC and no wakemodel-based array optimization approach have been developed. To this end, this study proposed a novel analytical wake model of OWSC. Based on the proposed wake model and differential evolution algorithm, layout optimizations of OWSCs in wave energy farms were performed. To establish a database for deriving the analytical wake model, OWSCs were numerically simulated using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, where the incoming wave height, damping of the power take-off system, and flap width were varied. The attained analytical wake model could predict the wave height changes in wake regions of OWSCs with an accuracy of 90.0% compared with the numerical SPH results. The optimized OWSC layouts demonstrated that staggered layouts with narrow and wide OWSCs placed in the front and back of wave energy farms, respectively, were economical and appropriate. Furthermore, a simplified guideline was proposed to determine OWSC layouts. Finally, all the codes implemented in this study were open-sourced.

In this article, a novel multisensor detection system framework for the rapid screening of bacterial infection is proposed. To capture the dynamic information of sensor response curves, eight features, such as time- and frequency-domain features, are extracted for each sensor. In addition, a novel feature selection algorithm based on adaptive similarity and latent semantics (ASLSFS) is employed to eliminate irrelevant features in the initial feature set. Due to the redundant information and noise introduced by the sensors' broad-spectrum response characteristics and hardware circuit interference, a dynamical information change weighted array optimization (DICWAO) is developed, which leverages the impact of adding candidate sensor features on the shared information among previously selected sensor features, candidate sensor features, and class label. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the designed system. Comparative analysis with existing algorithms verifies the effectiveness of the developed feature selection algorithm and array optimization framework.

Proposal of novel analytical wake model and GPU-accelerated array optimization method for oscillating wave surge energy converter

Oscillating wave surge converter (OWSC) is widely utilized to exploit energy from waves. Due to the wake effects, the layout of OWSCs will significantly affect the energy output of an OWSC farm. However, up to now the layout of OWSC farm was only determined empirically, and there was no quantitative layout optimization method for OWSC farm. The quantitative layout optimization needs analytical wake model for OWSC to conduct fast optimization iterations. However, there was still no analytical wake model for OWSC. Therefore, in this study, we proposed an analytical wake model regarding regular waves, based on which a quantitative method for optimizing the layout of OWSC farm was also proposed. It was found that the total energy outputs of the optimized layouts using the proposed method are significantly larger than those of the empirical ones, and increasing the spacing between the OWSCs in the bi-direction of wave propagation can greatly increase the total energy output. The proposed OWSC analytical wake model can predict the wave height changes with an accuracy of 94.73%. Innovatively, GPU-acceleration technology was utilized, and the GPU-based codes can run at least 1479 times faster than the CPU-based ones. Those implemented codes are opened for other researchers. In this brief, a novel low-cost odor detection scheme for tea grade identification is proposed, including a negative pressure odor information acquisition module with a low-cost sensor array and the corresponding conditioning circuits. To solve the redundant information brought by the broad-spectrum response characteristics of the sensors and the mutual interference of the hardware circuits and further reduce the manufacturing cost, a new array optimization algorithm based on independent classification information with low class-related redundancy (ICLCR) is developed, which further clarifies the independent classification information and the redundant information contained in the features. To verify the effectiveness of the designed system and the array optimization scheme, the typical odor detection system, i.e., PEN3, and the existing array optimization algorithms are exploited for comparison. The classification results demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed system and the superior performance of the designed array optimization algorithm compared to existing array optimization algorithms.

The selection of the sensor array represents a pivotal aspect of the system design for the electronic nose (E-nose). In practical applications, achieving an optimal balance between array size and system performance is often challenging. Therefore, realizing a high-performance E-nose with a minimum number of sensors is necessary, particularly for portable E-noses with limited size and power. This letter proposes a cost-effectiveness ratio (CER) as an array optimization criterion to address these issues. The CER is defined for quantifying costs and benefits as a basis for array optimization. Applying the designed array optimization criterion to the portable E-nose system, which comprises eight MEMS sensors, achieves an 80% prediction accuracy while reducing the number of sensors by nearly 40%. In addition, the concept of extreme sensor number is proposed to illustrate the existence of limit values for the number of sensors in the process of array optimization. This study offers a foundation for quantitative metrics for sensor array optimization, which serves as a crucial reference for the design of size- and power-sensitive portable E-nose systems.

Several outlet glaciers in Greenland are retreating and speeding up, and Greenland ice sheet's contribution to sea level is increasing over the last decade. Information on ice thickness and bed conditions is needed in order to understand why these outlet glaciers are retreating and speeding up, and to develop both diagnostic and prognostic models. These outlet glaciers contain very lossy ice and have a very-rough crevassed surface. Airborne sounding of these fast-moving outlet glaciers is very difficult because extremely weak bed echoes are often buried in off-nadir clutter - off-nadir scattered signals from the rough surface. We processed data from each element of the antenna-array with a multilook time-domain back-projection (MLTDBP) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) processor and used these data in an adaptive array processing algorithm we developed to extract weak bed echoes buried in clutter and noise. The algorithm is based on the gradient descent method. It estimates and minimizes phase and amplitude errors introduced by aircraft roll, the radar system, and aircraft wing flexure. We will show a few examples of recovered bed echoes from data collected over glaciers near Nuuk, Greenland during the 2009 field season to demonstrate the performance of the MLTDBP processor and array optimization algorithm. We also included an example from data collected on the interior ice during 2006.

Aiming at the low efficiency of single-vehicle submarine search and high complexity of cluster submarine search of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), a newmodel for distributed antisubmarine of non-clusterUSVis proposed by making full use of the long-endurance and long-distance submarine search capabilities of USV. This model uses a small number of USV carrying sonar detection equipment and distributes them relatively according to the designated position to form a multistatic sonar detection system, based on which anti-submarine operations are carried out. Around this model, a multistatic sonar system detection performance evaluation model is established based on maximizing the coverage of submarine search to study the influence of the deployment of the system platform on the detection coverage ability. The swarm intelligent algorithm optimizes the array information of the multistatic sonar system to achieve better detection effect. The simulation results show that using the swarm intelligence algorithm to reasonably optimize the array deployment of the model can greatly improve its regional coverage.
