Traditional interference suppression approaches will enjoy the additional benefits when angle as well as polarization domain information are involved by polarization sensitive array (PSA). However, the information from range domain and its collaboration with other domains are rarely explored. In this paper, we present the polarization sensitive frequency diverse array (PSFDA) which combines frequency diverse array (FDA) and PSA for robust angle-range-polarization beamforming. To improve the angle-range-polarization resolution, the sparse reconstruction respective of compressive sensing is further applied. Theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm can provide the good range-polarization resolution not just the target direction.

This paper presents a new synthesis algorithm to produce flat-top main beams with arbitrary footprint for array elements placed in an arbitrary planar geometry. The general framework of the paper would encompass the patterns produced by circular aperture distribution. It is shown that for patterns generated by circular apertures some efficient simplifying facts based on properties of Bessel functions can be applied. The method shows a high performance in generating optimally flat-top patterns with detailed geometry footprints.

We propose a sensing-assisted dynamic beamforming method for robust vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication between neighboring vehicles. For the proposed method, the main beam is directly steered towards the intended receivers and searching steps are not required. To maximize transmission throughput and avoid connection interruption caused by sensing uncertainties, higher directional gain for the interested field-of-view and lower sidelobe are expected. The problem is formulated as an array pattern synthesis problem that can be solved efficiently with the widely used semi-definite relaxation (SDR) methods.

A method is presented for calibration of array weights against mutual coupling in uniform linear array (ULA) antennas. Based on actual antenna patterns under specified excitations and an adjusted approach to pattern synthesis, the method leads to a calibration matrix, which can he used to calibrate array weights obtained by real-time beamforming and reduce pattern distortion.

An efficient ULA pattern nulling approach in the presence of unknown interference

In this study, an adaptive pattern nulling approach of half-wave dipole uniform linear arrays (DULA), inspired by binary bat algorithm (BBA)-based beamformers and the phase-only control of array excitation weights, has been proposed. This helps suppress interference with unknown directions in the sidelobe region. Several scenarios have been conducted to investigate the performance of the proposal including operation speed and adaptive pattern nulling with or without the effect of mutual coupling. The simulation results show that the proposed approach is a potential solution to precisely place nulls at any direction of unknown interferences while maintaining the main lobe and suppressing the sidelobes. In addition, regarding the pattern nulling, the approach proposed in this study demonstrates greater efficiency and higher speed than those using binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO).

Equispaced linear arrays that have uniformly excited central elements and monotonically decreasing flanking segments have been shown to yield low-sidelobe patterns with specified constraints on the effective radiated voltage (ERV). An analytical method for generating these distributions using a constrained least-squares (CLS) method, with restrictions on both the peak amplitude of the elements and the ERV, has been discussed in a previous work. Simulated annealing (SA) is a versatile global-optimization technique that can be effectively used,for similar purposes, but can also provide additional control over some other design parameters. In this paper, we inspect both methods-indicating some of their advantages and drawbacks through some numerical results. (c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

In this study, we present a novel relaxed-intensified exploration algorithm (RIEA) to synthesize large-aperture sensor arrays producing good array sparsity and optimal weight vector of the sparse sensor arrays for sensing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in airspace. The proposed algorithm is based on the compressed-sensing framework integrated with a kind of relaxed-intensified optimization thought, which comprises two core stages: the relaxed optimization stage and the intensified reoptimization stage. The relaxed-intensified exploration algorithm (RIEA) is tailored to accelerate array synthesis efficiency and promote global optimization. For the proposed algorithm, the ability to approach the global convergence is embodied in two key stages. The first stage aims to generate an optimal sparse sensor array with arbitrary upper mask constraints, whose upper mask is slightly relaxed to expand the solution space for further enhancing the array sparsity. Meanwhile, direction dimension reduction is further conducted to relax the radiating direction matrix for reducing massive computational cost. For the intensified reoptimization stage, the "relaxed" upper mask is first readjusted back to the strictly constrained strength and the weight vector of the designed sparse sensor array in the previous stage is then further optimized to approach the global optimal solution. Finally, the presence of element pattern for an individual sensor and array beam-scanning capability are also considered and investigated in synthesizing the sparse sensor arrays for precise positioning and sensing of UAVs. Several representative examples of the small/large-aperture sparse sensor arrays are performed to demonstrate the superiority, effectiveness, and robustness of the proposed RIEA.

Real-Time Phase-Only Nulling Based on Deep Neural Network With Robustness

Phase-only nulling under sidelobe and mainlobe constraints is a problem of interest in array synthesis which is a nonlinear problem without analytical solution. To reduce the computational cost of phase-only array nulling on-line, this paper proposes a real-time phase-only array synthesis method based on the deep neural network. The on-line real-time prediction of element excitation phase is achieved by the trained neural network which can be done off-line. The performance of the trained neural network is related with the number of data. Firstly, in order to obtain a large enough database for the deep neural network efficiently, a multi-task phase-only array synthesis model with nulling operation and sidelobe control is relaxed to a convex problem and solved by direct iterative rank refinement. Then, the deep neural network is devised to emulate the phase array nulling behavior. This is carried out by the design of the structure of the network, the dataset structure and the loss function of the network. To validate the performance of the deep neural network, the phase-only nulling of 10-element and 16-element linear array based on the deep neural network is realized and tested. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed real-time array synthesis method not only satisfies the desired array pattern property but also shows robustness to the array imperfections. Robustness is validated with Monte Carlo test.
