Runtime Verification is a software testing technique based on extracting and analyzing information from a system while it is running. The objective is to use this information to find faults or problems in the system under test. To achieve this, it is necessary that the insertion of testing logic does not modify the code being tested and that it does not affect the performance of the system. In this article, we present a runtime testing framework for JavaScript, which utilizes aspect-oriented programming and regular expressions. This framework encapsulates the idea of Message Sequence Specification applied to Runtime Verification. Our work is freely available and open source.

Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) allows developers to build product family software that comes from the same platform. The advantage of this technique is to reduce construction time, effort, costs, and difficulties. So, to build variations of software products, developers do not need to build entirely from scratch and can take advantage of general models that have been prepared previously. The software product line consists of common features and variability features. Common features are found on all product lines produced. While the variability features are determined by the requirements of each user. There are several approaches to implement these variability features, including using patterns, framework, polymorphism or configuration and build tools with compile-time variables. In this study, variability features implementation is carried out using the aspect-oriented programming approach that allows explicit expression and modularization of the variability on a model, code, and generator levels. The proposed approach was implemented in an online store website. Based on the implementation that has been done, an online store website can be built with different features according to user requirements. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper proposes integrating aspect-oriented programming (AOP) into Julia, a language widely used in scientific and High-Performance Computing (HPC). AOP enhances software modularity by encapsulating cross-cutting concerns, such as logging, caching, and parallelizing, into separate, reusable aspects. Leveraging Julia’s powerful metaprogramming and abstract syntax tree (AST) manipulation capabilities, we introduce aspectJulia, an AOP framework designed to operate within Julia’s runtime environment as a package. aspectJulia enables developers to define and apply aspects seamlessly, leading to more modular, maintainable, and adaptable code. We detail the implementation of aspectJulia and present diverse use cases, ranging from HPC and scientific computing to business applications, demonstrating its effectiveness in managing cross-cutting concerns. This integration simplifies application development and improves the adaptability of existing Julia modules and packages, paving the way for more efficient and maintainable software systems. aspect-oriented programming is an emerging programming paradigm that stretches during the development phases in different domains. Many researchers have focused on the use of this paradigm in web service composition in different research axis. However, none of them use together aspect-oriented programming and design by contract to deal with the adaptation of the parameters in the web service composition process. This paper proposes a web service composition algorithm based on the planning graph using both aspect-oriented programming and design by contract concept. The aspect-oriented programming approach provides explicit support for separation of crosscutting concerns in web services composition whereas the design by contract approach allows the processing of parameters execution in pre-condition and post-condition mode by using contracts in order to ensure correct service execution with adaptation to external parameters without touching in properties which can be dealt with re-construction of the composite service. Future development of this planning graph will include the introduction of the dynamic way of aspect oriented programming and add comparison results.

The world of HPC systems is changing to a more complicated system because the performance improvement of processors has been slowed down. One of the promising approaches is Domain-Specific Language (DSL), which provides a productive environment to create a high-efficient program without pain. However, existing DSL platforms themselves often lack portability and cost DSL developers great effort. To solve this issue, we propose an aspect-oriented programming (AOP) based DSL constructing platform, enabling developers to build a DSL platform by combining aspect modules. aspect modules manage abstracted application flow, data structure, and memory access on our platform. Therefore, developers can create any DSL platform whose target application has the attributes which HPC applications usually have, the abstraction assumes. This study implemented a prototype platform that can handle MPI and OpenMP layers. The prototype supports three types of applications (Structured-Grid, Unstructured-Grid, and Particle Simulation). Then, we evaluated the overheads caused by achieving flexibility and productivity of the platform. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Clickjacking is a highly deceiving technique to make users click on some UI element either surreptitiously or by enticing them with offers. Clickjacking is disguised and it cannot be easily detected because it makes use of some statutory features in a web application like iframes. This paper aims at Clickjacking prevention by incorporating Content Security Policy directives at development stage of a web application to white list loaded resources and applying these headers to each web page by making use of aspect oriented programming features in J2EE which offers some utilitarian features to enhance the security functionalities in a web application. By combining Content Security Policy with aspect oriented programming we have tried to demonstrate a proactive approach for averting Clickjacking with minimum programming effort. First, we have discussed how an aspect can be included in a web application without modifying source codes. Then, the experimental results demonstrate minimum to maximum levels of protection that can be achieved using Content Security Policy. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

aspect oriented programming (AOP) is a paradigm ideal for defining cross-cutting concerns within an existing application. Although several AOP frameworks exist for more renowned languages such as Java and C#, little to no frameworks have been developed for actor oriented languages such as Erlang. We thus present eAOP, a new AOP framework specifically designed to instrument actor-oriented constructs in Erlang such as message sends and receives, along with other traditional constructs such as function calls.

Software testing is a process to determine that a software product satisfies the specified requirements. Software testing spans over all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle namely, requirement specification, analysis, designing, development, deployment and maintenance of a software. Software testing is important to point out the defects in the software and to ensure that the developed software works fine in the real environment with different operating systems, devices, browsers and concurrent users. Further software testing can be classified into various types based on the objective of testing, level at which the testing is performed, knowledge of the system or the degree of automation. In this paper, we examine the suitability of aspect oriented programming (AOP) for the purpose of performing various types of software testing. AOP is a programming paradigm which modularizes the crosscutting concerns into units called aspects and separates them from the modules implementing the primary business logic. This leads to a system that is easier to understand and simpler to maintain. The basis of the idea behind using AOP for software testing is that aspects in AOP can be used to capture execution points within the program's modules and thus we can test components where we suspect bugs without even modifying the source code.

Usually, aspect-oriented programming (AOP) languages are an extension of a specific target language (e.g., aspectJ for Java and aspectC++ for C++). This coupling can impose drawbacks such as arbitrary limitations to the aspect language. LARA is a DSL for source-to-source transformations inspired by AOP concepts, and has been designed to be independent of the target language. In this paper we propose techniques to overcome some of the challenges presented by a language-independent approach to source code transformations, and present and discuss possible solutions and their impact. Additionally, we present some of the benefits and opportunities of this approach. We present an evaluation of our approach, show that we can significantly reduce the effort to develop weavers for new target languages and that the proposed techniques contribute to more concise LARA aspects and safer semantics.
