The different variants of slicing techniques of aspect-oriented programs (AOPs) are used in software maintenance, reuse, debugging, testing, program evolution, etc. In this paper, we propose a conditioned slicing algorithm for slicing AOPs, which computes more precise slice in comparison with dynamic slice. First, we have constructed an intermediate representation named conditioned aspect-oriented dependence graph (CAODG) to represent the aspect-oriented programs. The construction of CAODG is based on execution of aspect-oriented program with respect to pre-/post-condition rule, which is defined in aspect code. Then, we have proposed a conditioned slicing algorithm for AOP using the proposed CAODG.

On the adaptive instantiation of type-specific collections

After an age of almost unlimited computing resources, the advent of resource-constrained computing devices such as cell phones, brought questions of performance back into the spotlight. programming languages usually provide a set of general-purpose col- lections. Albeit highly optimized, they fall short of type-specific implementations in both processing time and memory usage. We describe a method for automatically deciding which implementation to use in runtime. Two complementary strategies for deter- mining whether a type-specific collection should be employed are described. To measure their gains, we conducted an experiment composed of eleven benchmarks, ranging from databased to compilers. Results show improvements of 13% in processing and of 3.5% in memory usage. As an unexpected side-effect, our technique reduced instantiations of collection in runtime.

Assessing Organizational Effectiveness of Cooperative Agents

This paper investigates the effect of agents coalitional strategy on their effectiveness using an evaluation approach that causes no alteration of the global system’s performance. Cooperation process is thus considered during the execution of a Multiagent System (MAS) in order to collect all necessary data for the evaluation phase. A structural analysis is then led to set instant and global assessments of the agents management and output. The observation and evaluation tools are implemented using aspect-oriented programming. We prove through experiments that they do not alter the global performance of the system regarding execution time and reached scores. The approach could then be validated as an objective evaluator of the system by judging real organizational capabilities of its agents in achieving their goals.

Assessing Idioms for a Flexible Feature Binding Time

In software product lines development, it is sometimes important to provide a flexible binding time for features such that developers can choose between static or dynamic feature activation. For example, software products designed for devices with constrained resources may use a static binding time to avoid the performance overhead introduced by dynamic binding time activation. However, other devices can exploit binding time flexibility to support products with a dynamic binding time for some of their features. To implement this kind of flexibility in a modular way, we can define aspectJ-based idioms. Researchers have proposed Edicts, an idiom based on aspectJ and design patterns. In this article, we argue that this idiom leads to an increase in code duplication, scattering, tangling and size, which can hamper code reuse, maintenance and understanding. To mitigate such issues, this paper proposes three idioms based on aspect-oriented programming to implement flexible feature binding. We apply our three idioms, along with Edicts, to implement a flexible binding time for features in four different applications. By doing so, we were able to assess the resulting implementations by using software metrics that judge code-quality factors. Our evaluation suggests that our idioms reduce the above-mentioned problems when implementing flexible feature binding for the selected features.

Bytecode instrumentation is a widely used technique to implement aspect weaving and dynamic analyses in virtual machines such as the Java virtual machine. aspect weavers and other instrumentations are usually developed independently and combining them often requires significant engineering effort, if at all possible. In this article, we present polymorphic bytecode instrumentation(PBI), a simple but effective technique that allows dynamic dispatch amongst several, possibly independent instrumentations. PBI enables complete bytecode coverage, that is, any method with a bytecode representation can be instrumented. We illustrate further benefits of PBI with three case studies. First, we describe how PBI can be used to implement a comprehensive profiler of inter-procedural and intra-procedural control flow. Second, we provide an implementation of execution levels for aspectJ, which avoids infinite regression and unwanted interference between aspects. Third, we present a framework for adaptive dynamic analysis, where the analysis to be performed can be changed at runtime by the user. We assess the overhead introduced by PBI and provide thorough performance evaluations of PBI in all three case studies. We show that pure Java profilers like JP2 can, thanks to PBI, produce accurate execution profiles by covering all code, including the core Java libraries. We then demonstrate that PBI-based execution levels are much faster than control flow pointcuts to avoid interference between aspects and that their efficient integration in a practical aspect language is possible. Finally, we report that PBI enables adaptive dynamic analysis tools that are more reactive to user inputs than existing tools that rely on dynamic aspect-oriented programming with runtime weaving. These experiments position PBI as a widely applicable and practical approach for combining bytecode instrumentations. Copyright (c) 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

An approach for deploying and monitoring dynamic security policies

Security policies are enforced through the deployment of certain security functionalities within the applications. When the security policies dynamically change, the associated security functionalities currently deployed within the applications must be adapted at runtime in order to enforce the new security policies. INTER-TRUST is a framework for the specification, negotiation, deployment and dynamic adaptation of interoperable security policies, in the context of pervasive systems where devices are constantly exchanging critical information through the network. The dynamic adaptation of the security policies at runtime is addressed using aspect-oriented programming (AOP) that allows enforcing security requirements by dynamically weaving security aspects into the applications. However, a mechanism to guarantee the correct adaptation of the functionality that enforces the changing security policies is needed. In this paper, we present an approach based on the combination of monitoring and detection techniques in order to maintain the correlation between the security policies and the associated functionality deployed using AOP, allowing the INTER TRUST framework to automatically react when needed. Mining static and dynamic crosscutting concerns: a role-based approach

The implementation of crosscutting concerns in object-oriented (OO) systems entails scattering and tangling of code across several components increasing code duplication and making the system harder to comprehend, maintain, evolve and reuse. Therefore, identification of crosscutting concerns drives the re-engineering or refactoring tasks in order to improve modularization of an existing system and increasing its overall internal quality. This paper proposes an approach to identify and analyse the components implementing the static and dynamic crosscutting in OO systems. The approach defines a meta-model representing the structure of an OO system in terms of its components. A static analysis of an OO software system is performed to create an instance of this meta-model. Such meta-model is finally analysed to find static and dynamic crosscutting among concerns. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach have been validated in an empirical assessment where it was applied to some OO java systems. The obtained results show a good level of effectiveness for the crosscutting analysis. Copyright (C) 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Optimization Extraction of Crassostrea gigas Polysaccharides and its Antioxidant Activity and Hepatoprotective Against BCG-LPS-Induced Hepatic Injury in Mice

A active oyster polysaccharide (AOP) was extracted from oyster tissues by ultrasonic assisted extraction. The optimal extraction conditions were 20 min at pH 8, 60C with 40 W and water to solid ratio of 10, and with this method 42.732.34 (mg/g) of AOP yield was obtained. Additionally, the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activities of AOP were investigated. The results showed that AOP exhibited strong antioxidant effects, which included scavenging activities against DPPH radicals and hydrogen oxide with IC50 values of 3.08 and 11.18 mg/mL, respectively. For hepatoprotective activities against BCG-LPS-induced hepatic injury in mice, AOP was shown to effectively improved the liver index, spleen index and thymus index, reduced the serum levels of ALT and AST. Treatment with AOP significantly increased hepatic SOD and GSH-Px activity, GSH. The levels of TNF- and IL-1 in BCG/LPS-induced mice liver homogenates were decreased markedly by treatment with AOP. Practical ApplicationsThis work provides an alternative way for aquatic products processing enterprises to evaluate oyster polysaccharide quality and bioactivity. AOP have been shown to have potential for nutritional or pharmaceutical applications. AOP may have hepatoprotective effects against BCG-LPS -induced liver injury, which was related to its antioxidative and immunomodulatory effects.

Rewriting rule-based model for aspect-oriented software evolution

Software is evolutionary in nature. From the time a software product is defined until it is no longer used, it changes. We focus in this paper on the aspect-oriented (AO) software evolution. Although AO software engineering is the subject of ongoing research, AO software evolution has received less attention. AO programming is a mature technology that modularises the crosscutting concerns. Unfortunately, it produces new dependencies between them;restricts the evolvability of the software system. In order to cope with all types of AO program's dependencies, we converge toward a new evolution modelling approach. In our proposal, the AO source code is modelled in a more abstract and formal format as an attributed coloured graph, where the different dependencies in the software system are well defined. Then, the change requests are presented as rewritten rules on this coloured graph. We give here the details of our approach as well as its implementation. And, we provide an empirical evaluation to prove the efficiency of our proposal.

Development of a Fragment-Based in Silico Profiler for Michael Addition Thiol Reactivity

The Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) paradigm details the existing knowledge that links the initial interaction between a chemical and a biological system, termed the molecular initiating event (MIE), through a series of intermediate events, to an adverse effect. An important example of a well-defined MIE is the formation of a covalent bond between a biological nucleophile and an electrophilic compound. This particular MIE has been associated with various toxicological end points such as acute aquatic toxicity, skin sensitization, and respiratory sensitization. This study has investigated the calculated parameters that are required to predict the rate of chemical bond formation (reactivity) of a dataset of Michael acceptors. Reactivity of these compounds toward glutathione was predicted using a combination of a calculated activation energy value (Ea calculated using density functional theory (DFT) calculation at the B3YLP/6-31G+(d) level of theory, and solvent-accessible surface area values (SAS) at the a carbon. To further develop the method, a fragment-based algorithm was developed enabling the reactivity to be predicted for Michael acceptors without the need to perform the time-consuming DFT calculations. Results showed the developed fragment method was successful in predicting the reactivity of the Michael acceptors excluding two sets of chemicals: volatile esters with an extended substituent at the beta-carbon and chemicals containing a conjugated benzene ring as part of the polarizing group. Additionally the study also demonstrated the ease with which the approach can be extended to other chemical classes by the calculation of additional fragments and their associated Ea, and SAS values. The resulting method is likely to be of use in regulatory toxicology tools where an understanding of covalent bond formation as a potential MIE is important within the AOP paradigm.
