Different programming paradigms have been introduced for enhancing the dynamic behavior of the programs. One among them is aspect-oriented programming (AOP) which is having the ability to modularize the crosscutting concerns. Patterns are reusable good-quality design practices that have proven useful in the design of software applications. In this paper we aims to validate how the AOP features can help us to reduce the need of using Object-oriented programming (OOP) design patterns. Decorator design pattern solution to OOP peer-to-peer software design is implicit in AOP based software. To show the proof for our proposed work, we explained the idea with the help of a case-study using JXTA peer-to-peer programming and implemented it. Here we used the amalgamation of worker-object aspect-oriented design pattern, Decorator design pattern, and AOP. For better understanding UML class diagram is presented. We have obtained comprehensive results proving that the design pattern in OOP is not a design pattern in AOP to provide functionality like decorator pattern. We think that our findings could be useful for the Peer-to-Peer computing programmers and software designers can exploit to drive their work.

Dealing with crosscutting and dynamic features in component software using aspect-orientation: requirements and experiences

Coping with crosscutting and dynamic features of software systems has significant impacts on software modularity, reusability, adaptability, and maintainability. However, dealing with such features is a tremendous challenge for different software paradigms, particularly component-based software development (CBSD) where components can be used as black box software units. Fortunately, dealing with crosscutting features is the main focus of aspect-orientation (AO). To compromise, a plethora of different AO and CBSD combinations are available. There is, however, little consensus on how AO and CBSD can be combined and what AO qualities need to be integrated for getting maximum benefits from the combination. In the aim to reach a consensus and increase the understanding of requirements for proper combinations that deal with crosscutting and dynamic features, the authors conduct a domain analysis study of existing combination endeavours;they first identify a set of requirements ought to be fulfilled for proper modelling of crosscutting and dynamic features in component software using AO;second, they group the identified requirements into an evaluation model;third, they check the capability of existing combinations to validate the evaluation model. The study highlighted mandatory requirements for proper combinations and revealed that none of the existing endeavours validates the evaluation model.

Reusable specification templates for defining dynamic semantics of DSLs

In the context of model-driven engineering, the dynamic (execution) semantics of domain-specific languages (DSLs) is usually not specified explicitly and stays (hard)coded in model transformations and code generation. This poses challenges such as learning, debugging, understanding, maintaining, and updating a DSL. Facing the lack of supporting tools for specifying the dynamic semantics of DSLs (or programming languages in general), we propose to specify the architecture and the detailed design of the software that implements the DSL, rather than requirements for the behavior expected from DSL programs. To compose such a specification, we use specification templates that capture software design solutions typical for the (application) domain of the DSL. As a result, on the one hand, our approach allows for an explicit and clear definition of the dynamic semantics of a DSL, supports separation of concerns and reuse of typical design solutions. On the other hand, we do not introduce (yet another) specification formalism, but we base our approach on an existing formalism and apply its extensive tool support for verification and validation to the dynamic semantics of a DSL.

Surface water treatment by UV/H2O2 with subsequent soil aquifer treatment: impact on micropollutants, dissolved organic matter and biological activity

Because organic micropollutants (MP) are frequently detected in river waters that are used as drinking water sources, combining a relatively cost-efficient natural treatment with upstream advanced oxidation processes (AOP) appears promising for their efficient abatement. Such a multi-barrier system can be integrated in drinking water production schemes to minimize risks from potentially hazardous MPs. This study investigates the impact of an UV/H2O2 AOP before soil aquifer treatment (SAT) on the abatement of selected MPs (EDTA, acesulfame, iopamidol, iomeprol, metformin, 1H-benzotriazole, iopromide), dissolved organic matter (DOM) (apparent molecular size distribution, specific UV absorbance at 254 nm - SUVA) and microbial parameters (intact cell count, cell-bound ATP). A pilot plant consisting of an AOP (0.5 m(3) h(-1), 4 mg L-1 H2O2, 6000 J m(-2)) and two parallel soil columns (filtration velocity: 1 m d(-1), column height: 1 m) was continuously operated over a period of 15 months with Rhine river water pre-treated with rapid sand filtration. The investigations revealed a shift towards longer retention times of the humic substances peak in LC analysis of DOM, lower SUVA and higher biodegradability of DOM after UV/H2O2 treatment. In addition, an overall higher abatement of all investigated MPs by the combined treatment was observed (AOP with subsequent SAT) compared to either process alone. This observation could be explained by an addition of the single treatment effects. The strong primary disinfection effect of the AOP was detectable along the first meter of infiltration, but did not lead to any change in the column performance (i.e., similar abatement of dissolved organic matter).

: Software product lines extraction driven by language server protocol

Software product lines (SPL) describe highly-variable software systems as a family of similar products that differ in terms of the features they provide. The promise of SPL engineering is to enable massive software reuse by allowing software features to be reused across a variety of different products made for several customers. However, there are some disadvantages in the extraction of SPLs from standard applications. Most notably, approaches to the development of SPLs are not supported by the base language and use a syntax and composition techniques that require a deep understanding of the tools being used. Therefore, the same features cannot be used in a different application and developers must face a steep learning curve when developing SPLs for the first time or when switching from one approach to a different one. Ultimately, this problem is due to a lack of standards in the area of SPL engineering and in the way SPLs are extracted from variability-unaware applications. In this work, we present a framework based on LSP and dubbed that aims at standardizing such a process by decoupling the refactoring operations made by the user from the effect they have on the source code. This way, the server for a specific SPL development approach can be used across several development environments that provide clients with customized refactoring options. Conversely, the developers can use the same client to refactor SPLs made according to different approaches without needing to learn the syntax of each approach. To showcase the applicability of the approach, we present an evaluation performed by refactoring four SPLs according to two different approaches: the results show that a minimal implementation of the client and server applications can be used to reduce the effort of extracting an SPL up to the 93% and that it can greatly reduce or even completely hide the implementation details from the developer, depending on the chosen approach.

A Reusable SQL Injection Detection Method for Java Web Applications

The fundamental reason why most SQL injection detection methods are difficult to use in practice is the low reusability of the implementation code. This paper presents a reusable SQL injection detection method for Java Web applications based on AOP (aspect-oriented programming) and dynamic taint analysis, which encapsulates the dynamic taint analysis processes into different aspects and establishes aspect library to realize the large-grained reuse of the code for detecting SQL injection attacks. A metamodel of aspect library is proposed, and a management tool for the aspect library is implemented. Experiments show that this method can effectively detect 7 known types of SQL injection attack such as tautologies, logically incorrect queries, union query, piggy-backed queries, stored procedures, inference query, alternate encodings and so on, and support the large-grained reuse of the code for detecting SQL injection attacks.

Metaprogramming is the process of writing computer programs that treat programs as data, enabling them to analyze or transform existing programs or generate new ones. While the concept of metaprogramming has existed for several decades, activities focusing on metaprogramming have been increasing rapidly over the past few years, with most languages offering some metaprogramming support and the amount of meta-code being developed growing exponentially. In this article, we introduce a taxonomy of metaprogramming languages and present a survey of metaprogramming languages and systems based on the taxonomy. Our classification is based on the metaprogramming model adopted by the language, the phase of the metaprogram evaluation, the metaprogram source location, and the relation between the metalanguage and the object language.

Over the past few years, blockchain technology has attracted much attention. The smart contract is a computer program that implements and executes transactions and business logic on the blockchain. Unlike traditional general-purpose programming languages, the modularization techniques of programming languages for the smart contracts are still immature. Specifically, a suitable modularization mechanism for cross-cutting concerns is still not available. From a software engineering perspective, the modularization of cross-cutting concerns is a fundamental issue that can dramatically affect the contracts' maintainability and readability. As a result, reducing the redundant cross-cutting logic is still a challenging task. This paper proposes a practically viable approach that supports aspect-oriented programming (AOP) for smart contract development on Ethereum-based blockchains. We suggest a set of extension to Solidity, a programming language that runs on the Ethereum-based blockchains, that facilitates AOP semantics and behaviors. As a proof of concept, we also realize the weaving module for the extension. The feasibility of the proposed approach is demonstrated by a case study.

With the availability of systems that contain large amounts of byte-addressable non-volatile memory (NVRAM), there is a growing need for data structures that can be mapped into a process's address space and be used without data (de-)serialization. While NVRAM is able to retain memory contents during system failure and power loss, data consistency has to be preserved by using transactional operations for data manipulation. This paper describes a lightweight and efficient transaction mechanism for small data structures in memory-mapped NVRAM. The size per data structure is limited to half a cache-line, so that the approach cannot serve as a general purpose mechanism for arbitrary applications, but could be used within an operating system as a low-level building block for more complex data structures. By using aspect-oriented programming with aspectC++, the mechanism can be used in an almost transparent manner, which helps to avoid many possible sources for bugs.

In an aspect-oriented program, the cross-cutting functionalities are defined in pieces of advice such that they apply to program-execution points for the core functionalities. Program changes can affect the application of pieces of advice. To that end, a source-code differencing tool, for two versions of an aspect-oriented program, needs to support the identification of changes in pieces of advice at locations of their applications. To alleviate this task, we introduce an extension of the existing differencing technique for object-oriented programs. We implemented a tool AjDiff and used it to evaluate our technique on the two examples of aspect-oriented programs: Tracing and Telecom. We manually verified that our tool can successfully identify changes in pieces of advice at locations of their application.
