aspect-oriented modeling and simulation is a new approach which uses the separation of concerns principle to enhance the quality of models and simulation tools. It adopts the separation of concerns (SOC) principle. Thus, crosscutting concerns such as processes synchronization, steady state detection, and graphical animation could be separated from simulation functional modules. The capture of crosscutting concerns in a modular way is carried out to cope with complexity and to achieve the required engineering quality factors such as robustness, modularity, adaptability, and reusability. This paper provides a summary of aspect-oriented paradigm with its usage in simulation by illustrating the main crosscutting concerns that may infect simulation systems. A practical example is given with the use of the Japrosim discrete event simulation library.

The term aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has come to describe the set of programming mechanisms developed specifically to express crosscutting concerns. Since crosscutting concerns cannot be properly modularized within object-oriented programming, they are expressed as aspects and are composed, or woven, with traditionally encapsulated functionality referred to as *** AOP models exist, but their implementations are typically coupled with a single language. To allow weaving of existing components with aspects written in the language of choice, AOP requires a language-independent tool.

aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is intended to ease situations that involve many kinds of code tangling. This paper reports on a study to investigate AOP's ability to ease tangling related to exception detection and handling. We took an existing framework written in Java™, the JWAM framework, and partially reengineered its exception detection and handling aspects using aspectJ™, an aspect-oriented programming extension to *** found that aspectJ supported implementations that drastically reduced the portion of the code related to exception detection and handling. In one scenario, we were able to reduce that code by a factor of 4. We also found that, with respect to the original implementation in plain Java, aspectJ provided better support for different configurations of exceptional behaviors, more tolerance for changes in the specifications of exceptional behaviors, better support for incremental development, better reuse, automatic enforcement of contracts in applications that use the framework, and cleaner program texts. We also found some weaknesses of aspectJ that should be addressed in the future.

In recent years, aspect oriented programming (AOP) has become an emerging technology due to its ability to support the separation of concerns in software development. In particular, AOP allows application requirements to be implemented in separated modules while weaving them together without code tangling. However, this feature also raises a concern about the quality and reliability of AOP programs. Most specifically, the AOP programming constructs, such as join point, pointcut, advice, and aspect, can change the dynamic behavior(1) of original base modules and need to be tested thoroughly to ensure the correctness of AOP programs. In this paper, we propose a state-based testing approach for AOP programs. The approach considers the state-based behavior(2) changes introduced by different advices in multiple aspects. A test model is presented to abstract the state-based behavior of AOP program with the consideration of the interactions between the base modules and aspects. Based on the model, test cases can be derived so as to uncover the potential state behavior errors in the AOP programs. In addition, an example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

We study AOP in the context of business programming with Cobol. We face the following questions: What are join points in Cobol programs? What is advice? Does classic Cobol provide any constructs that hint at AOP? (Yes!) What are typical crosscutting concerns in the Cobol world? How do otherwise typical crosscutting concerns make sense for Cobol? How does AOP for Cobol align with classic re-engineering transformations for Cobol? We deliver an AOP language design for Cobol. Codename: aspectCobol. While we adopt several ideas from aspectJ and friends, we also devise original techniques for joint-point identification and context capture. We briefly discuss a prototypical implementation of aspectCobol.

This paper describes research in applications of aspect-oriented programming (AOP) as captured in the aspectJ™ language. In particular, it compares object-oriented and aspect-oriented designs and implementations of role *** 1, 2, and 3 provide background information on role models, object-oriented role model implementations, and aspect-oriented programming, respectively. New aspect-oriented designs for role models are explored in sections 4, 5, and *** base reference for this exploration is the Role Object pattern. Although useful for role models, this pattern introduces some problems at the implementation level, namely object schizophrenia, significant interface maintenance, and no support for role composition. Our research has resulted in alternative aspect-oriented designs that alleviate some of these *** 7 discusses how an agent framework that implements role models has been partially reengineered with aspects. The reengineering addressed concerns that are orthogonal or cross cut both the core and the role behavior. The aspect oriented redesign significantly reduced code tangling, overall method and module count, and total lines of code. These results and other conclusions are presented in section 8.

Producer-Consumer problem is a classical and representative synchronization problem in the field of computer science, which can be implemented by object-oriented programming language. However, the implementation of objectoriented programming often leads to be tangled between functional codes and synchronization codes, which are easy to lead code-scattering and code-tangling. aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has been proposed as a technique for improving separation of concerns for the final software. This paper aims to resolve concrete aspect and implement the synchronization of producer-consumer based on AOP under two ways: single buffer and multiple buffers, and the execution result shows that AOP can resolve the producer-consumer problem effectively. Furthermore, the execution time of AOP program is shown to contrast with that of object-oriented programming, which shows that AOP can almost get the same execution time with object-oriented programming, while AOP can gain the modularization better than object-oriented programming.

The Advanced Teaching and Learning Academic Server (Atlas) is a software system that supports web-based learning. Students can register for courses, and can navigate through personalized views of course material. Atlas has been built according to Sun Microsystem's Java™ Servlet specification using Xerox PARC's aspect-oriented programming support called aspect™. Since aspect-oriented programming is still in its infancy, little experience with employing this paradigm is currently available. In this paper, we start filling this gap by describing the aspects we used in Atlas and by discussing the effect of aspects on our object-oriented development practices. We describe some rules and policies that we employed to achieve our goals of maintainability and modifiability, and introduce a straightforward notation to express the design of aspects. Although we faced some obstacles along the way, this combination of technology helped us build a fast, well-structured system in a reasonable amount of time.

This paper addresses the problem of functionalverification starting from a high level description ofthe system under test, specified in SystemC. Theverification method considered is based upon thesimulation of executable SystemC description. Testcoverage analysis is the main technique for checkingand showing that the testing has been thorough. UML2.0is used to model the dynamic behavior view ofSystemC description as a coverage metric modelInherently it is possible to automate the whole testcoverage analysis using our methodology.
