Today people need to control many disparate devices. The frustration of learning many different device interfaces has also become a substantial challenge. Even learning to master a universal remote for a specific device is troublesome. Individually programming universal remote interfaces for all of these devices is also very costly. This paper presents a generator to create common interfaces for a universal remote to control numerous devices with a single controller. A full implementation will not only save money, but will also save in the time needed to learn how to use different controllers.

In this paper we propose an automatic updating system for urban vector maps that is able to detect changes between the old dataset (consisting of both vector and raster maps) and the present time situation represented in a raster map. In order to automatically detect as much changes as possible and to extract vector data for new buildings we present a system composed of three main parts: the first part detects changes between the input, vector map and the new raster map (based on edge matching), the second part locates new objects (based on color segmentation), and the third part extracts new objects boundaries to be used for updating the vector map (based on edge detection, color segmentation and adaptive edge linking). Experiments on real datasets illustrate the approach.

Before implementation into hardware signal processing algorithms are tested in simulation mode. LabVIEW provides highly convenient environment for simulation development and also tools for generation of simulation environment that can include simulation itself and collection of simulation data. Despite the fact these tools use LabVIEW for code generation, it is not easy to understand the principles of code generation and effectively develop simulation generators. This paper presents toolbox for improved LabVIEW code generation. The developed toolbox is based on standard LabVIEW code generation functions maximally simplifying the application and minimizing the necessary amount of tools for code generation. This paper consists of theoretical part about LabVIEW code generation methods, practical part about principles of LabVIEW code generation using scripting and a graphical presentation of improved LabVIEW code generation advantages. The presented graphical results show that the improved LabVIEW code generation is simpler (thus better) and more understandable for practical realization and the code generator is clearer and more comprehensible than the original one.

This paper describes conversion of a surface valency lexicon of Czech verbs to a surface valency lexicon of adjectives that can be derived from these verbs and that use their (possibly modified) valency frames. After preparing the necessary data by hand, the conversion can be fully automatic and every change of the source lexicon can be automatically reflected in the destination lexicon. We have successfully converted the verb valency lexicon "Brief" with about 15,000 verbs to a valency lexicon of about 27,000 deverbal adjectives. The paper also describes some interesting peculiarities in the process of creating passive adjectives and their valency frames.

We present an approach for the automatic classification of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy data of biofluids with respect to drug induced organ toxicities. Classification is realized by an Ensemble of Support Vector Machines, trained on different subspaces according to a modified version of Random Subspace Sampling. Features most likely leading to an improved classification accuracy are favored by the determination of subspaces, resulting in an improved classification accuracy of base classifiers within the Ensemble. An experimental evaluation based on a challenging, real task from pharmacology proves the increased classification accuracy of the proposed Ensemble creation approach compared to single SVM classification and classical Random Subspace Sampling.

Because of their complexity, modem microprocessors need new tools that generate tests for micro-architectural events. Piparazzi is a test generator, developed at IBM, that generates (architectural) test programs for micro-architectural events. Piparazzi uses a declarative model of the micro-architecture and the user's definition of the required event to create an instance of a Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP). It then uses a dedicated CSP solver to generate a test program that covers the specific event. We show how Piparazzi yields significant improvements in covering micro-architectural events, by describing its technology and by exhibiting experimental results. Piparazzi has already been successful in finding both functional and performance bugs that could only be discovered using an exact micro-architectural model of the processor.
