In this paper advanced neural networks (NNs) based techniques are presented to detect and classify changes in multi-temporal SAR COSMO-SkyMed images. The core and more innovative algorithm of the methodology is based on PCNNs (Pulse Couple Neural Networks), which perform the change detection task, while a standard Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) topology is considered to identify the type of changes occurred. The paper aims at providing a complete automatic processing chain usable also for extended areas. In fact, the PCNNs, being unsupervised networks, are inherently automatic. On the other hand, MLPs, which are supervised networks, are assumed to be learned off-line and plugged into the workflow without further training. The experimental results, which have been obtained over various urban areas in the city of Rome, are encouraging and confirm the validity of the considered approach.

Realistic 3D city modeling using Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) technique experienced a remarkable revolution in aiding urban planning, regulation design, city management, navigation, and emergency responses. This paper focuses on thoroughly examining the advance of automated MLS object extraction techniques over the last five years. Categorized as either on-road or off-road, mainly six objects are included in this paper (road curbs, road markings, pavement cracks, building facades, pole-like objects and trees). MLS extraction techniques applied on typical objects is evaluated according to their method design, degree of automation, precision, and computational efficiency. Recent researches mostly focus on developing accurate object extraction algorithms and most of the reviewed methods can achieve high precision;however, optimizing the trade-off between computational cost and accuracy remains a big challenge. In addition, there is still no general standardized approach to deal with MLS objects extractions to date;most algorithms reviewed in this paper still need some artificial interference to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Detecting varieties of cheating: How do people navigate between different cheating ploys?

What kinds of cheating-protection devices should individuals implement to avoid being victims of fraud? Using the Wason selection task as a cheating detection paradigm, we define three types of cheating: Cheating 1 (cost proves to be insufficient for obtaining the benefit), Cheating 2 (cost proves to be unnecessary for obtaining the benefit), and Ambiguous Cheating (type of cheating unclear). In Study 1 participants relied on world knowledge and showed equal sensitivity to both Cheating 1 and 2 by correctly selecting the most relevant threats in these versions. However, no dominant pattern appeared in the Ambiguous Cheating version. In Study 2 participants relied on contextual cues to detect the most relevant threat of cheating (either Cheating 1 or Cheating 2) and the efficacy of their detections increased in versions that included a syntactic manipulation that emphasised the cost-benefit relationship. We argue that efficient cheating detection requires flexibility, world knowledge, expertise, and a thorough understanding of the causal relationship between the cost and the benefit. All of these are essential cognitive tools that can assist people in navigating between different cheating ploys which may be embedded in the same social contract.

Improving fuzzy clustering algorithm for probability density functions and applying in image recognition

This study introduces a measure called coefficient of within-cluster proximity (CWP) to evaluate the similarity of probability density functions (DFs) within clusters. After surveying the under and upper, and the computational problems of CWP, a fuzzy clustering algorithm for DFs is proposed. This algorithm can determine the suitable number of clusters and find the probability for each DF to belong to specific cluster. The convergence of the algorithm is considered in theory and illustrated by the numerical examples. The algorithm is applied to image recognition. The results show strong advantages of it in comparison to other algorithms. They also indicate the potential of the proposed approach in application to the data of different types. © 2020 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

An automatic Program for Linear Fredholm Integral Equations of the Second Kind

Two automatic programs for solving linear Fredholm integral equations of the second kind are described and illustrated. It is assumed that the kernel function and solution are smooth and that they are given analytically, not as discrete data. The numerical method is based on the Nystr6m method, with an lteratlve technique to solve the resulting linear systems. The main discussion centers on Simpson's method as the numerical integration rule. A powerful variant based on Gaussian quadrature m also discussed, and tests for ill-conditioned problems have been incorporated into the program. Modifiability of the Simpson program is also discussed. © 1976, ACM. All rights reserved.

In this study, we developed an automatic algorithm for sleep-wake detection based on Electrooculography (EOG) in healthy and non-healthy patients. Several features were extracted in time and frequency domains from the EOG signal. The artificial neural network (ANN) was used as a classifier. This pilot study consisted of three aims;the first aim was to utilise only the EOG signal for automatic sleep-wake stage detection. The second objective was to investigate which features were the most effective in detecting the sleep-wake phases in healthy and non-healthy individuals. The third important aim is to investigate which suitable and effective channel can be utilized for detecting the sleep-wake stages. The database was built up using 7 healthy subjects and 9 patients with mixed sleep apnoea, sleep apnoea hypopnea syndrome (SAHS), dyssomnia and periodic limb movements of sleep (PLMS). The inter-rater reliability was 91.3%. The sensitivity and specificity were 84.5% and 91.5%, respectively. Cohen's kappa between visual and automatic algorithm in detection of the sleep-wake stages was 0.74.

The right panel drawing direction is an important prerequisite for generating qualified parts, an important step before the panel forming simulation is to determine the reasonable direction of the drawing. Manually adjust parts in order to overcome rely on experience, the drawbacks to the drawing direction, the direction of the drawing punch and forming the contact area of the sheet as the goal of automatic determination algorithm. Objective function of the direction of the drawing for the variable contact area in the drawing direction of the feasible region, the use of heritage algorithms to optimize the objective function of the contact area and, ultimately feasible within the contact area corresponding to the drawing direction, that is the best drawing direction. The measured results show that the direction of the drawing based on genetic algorithm, the automatic algorithm can fast and accurate to obtain the optimal direction of drawing.

An automatic Uni- or Multi-modal Inteligent Seizure Acquisition (UISA/MISA) system is highly applicable for onset detection of epileptic seizures based on motion data. The modalities used are surface electromyography (sEMG), acceleration (ACC) and angular velocity (ANG). The new proposed automatic algorithm on motion data is extracting features as "log-sum" measures of discrete wavelet components. Classification into the two groups "seizure" versus "non-seizure" is made based on the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. The algorithm performs with a sensitivity of 91-100%, a median latency of 1 second and a specificity of 100% on multi-modal data from five healthy subjects simulating seizures. The uni-modal algorithm based on sEMG data from the subjects and patients performs satisfactorily in some cases. As expected, our results clearly show superiority of the multi-modal approach, as compared with the uni-modal one.

Epilepsy is one of the leading neurological disorders characterized by recurrent seizures. These epileptic seizures are often associated with sleep stages. The longitudinal EEG studies in animal model of epilepsy have voluminous data, which is difficult to mark sleep stages manually. This demands an automated way to detect sleep and active states. We used continuous video-EEG recordings as the gold standard to characterize sleep-wake states in animals. We implemented frequency band power-based thresholding approach to detect sleep stages in 600 hours of 5 epileptic and naïve animal data. We observed that the conventional delta and theta band powers were prominently higher than the other frequency bands in the sleep-wake states however not efficient enough to detect sleep. We considered a set of novel frequency bands for their ability to robustly differentiate individual sleep states by using EEG only. We implemented k-nearest neighbor, logistic regression and brute force threshold approach. The KNN was the best predictor of sleep and wake states with 94% accuracy where the brute force was significantly similar accuracy (92%). We further characterized the sleep in epileptic animals and found that the epileptic animals sleep longer compared to naïve animals and also individual sleep durations are significantly longer than the naive animals. Such efficient algorithms can improvise and expedite sleep studies and understanding relationship between and epilepsy.

The 3D laser scanning has increasingly been applied in the field of monitoring roadway deformation. Different from a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS), a mobile laser scanner (MLS) is more flexible in on-site operations, but its scanning range accuracy is only precise to the centimeter level. still remains in centimeters. In addition, extracting deformation information from point cloud data of roadway is a complex process. In order to improve the accuracy of deformation monitoring and the efficiency of point cloud processing, with the aid of the identification plate for measurement (IPM) and the statistical analysis methods, an MLS-based high-accuracy measurement and automatic analysis method of roadway deformation is proposed. In this approach, the center point of the identification plate for measurement (IPM-CP) is taken as the control point for deformation monitoring (CPDM). The IPMs in the point cloud are positioned based on the locations of the seed points. The K-radius search algorithm and the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm are introduced to extract and segment the point cloud of the target area (PCTA). The calculation methods for the key parameters of the algorithms are developed. The judgement index for identifying the IPM point cloud and the methods for target point extraction are presented. The convergence features of the surrounding rocks is analyzed by comparing the lengths of measuring lines of monitoring sections at different stages. The method was applied and validated in the Sanshandao Gold Mine for roadway deformation monitoring. The results show that this method is able to automatically obtain a highly precise data on roadway deformation.
