Changes in the recreational physical activity (RPA) behaviours caused by COVID-19 lockdown - a case study of Poland

This article aims to describe, explain and compare the changes in Poles' recreational physical activity (RPA) behaviours that emerged in response to the restrictions introduced by the Covid-19 pandemic. The literature review revealed gaps regarding this subject. Of particular interest is taking into account the comparison of both the national and international context and the comprehensive approach to explaining the mechanism of change. Based on the literature, the theoretical framework was developed, which was then used to design an online questionnaire. The questionnaire was conducted from 20 May to 31 October 2020 and included 533 respondents. To analyse the data, a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis methods was used (descriptive statistics and grounded theory techniques). Research has shown that RPA behaviours changed temporally or permanently. The behaviours were partially differentiated by gender and age. In comparison to other countries, it seems to be a result of the range and strictness of the introduced restrictions and national culture. The novelty of the work consists of the combined data analysis methods, which allow for an explanation of the mechanism of changes and a comparison of results with other countries.

Analyzing ethnographic interviews: Three studies on terrorism and nonviolent resistance

This article describes three analyses of ethnographic interviews conducted with violent and nonviolent political activists. The findings show that the deliberations of violent and nonviolent activists focus on state violence and rational choice calculations (Studies I and II), while nonviolent activists moreover consider perceptions of themselves and state actors, among other factors (Study II). In a highly repressive setting, nonviolent activists choose individual over collective resistance (Study III). By revealing how violent and nonviolent activists reason about their behaviour, the findings complement statistical analyses of datasets on external factors, such as economic conditions, political institutions, social networks or political events. Such datasets are typically readily available or can be constructed from publicly available data, while interview transcripts are more time-consuming to assemble. Furthermore, replicable quantitative methods are not straightforwardly applied to qualitative interviews. This article instead applies Spradley's ethnographic analysis (Study I) and Corbin and Strauss's grounded theory (Studies II and III) to examine interview transcripts. In addition to the substantive findings, the analyses make a methodological contribution to qualitative studies of interviews by systematically identifying each factor addressed by an interview transcript.

A Design Framework for Novice Using Grounded Theory Methodology and coding in Qualitative Research: Organisational Absorptive Capacity and Knowledge Management

Grounded theory methodology (GTM) is an extensive research methodology that is immensely active in numerous social science research fields. It is by far one of the most popular techniques applied in qualitative research. The challenge in using such methods might appear in their complexity. Several steps of coding and analysis in GTM can be fuzzy and multifaceted for novice researchers specialised in Information Systems (IS) fields, knowledge management, and broad applications of IS. The current study suggests a design framework for novices in qualitative research that presents GTM as a set of techniques characterised graphically, allowing the extraction of grounded results and a set of pragmatic analysed data classifications rather than only concentrating on implementing a grounded "theory". Hence, the research stresses using the term "grounded techniques", permitting the creation of grounded categories to strengthen qualitative research results' rigour. The proposed framework meticulously exemplifies how an organised set of phases in a research design can enlighten the novice researcher while conducting a study in knowledge absorptive capacity using a comprehensive GTM process to enforce the understanding of GTM techniques.

Critical Success Factors for Data Governance: A Theory Building Approach

The objective of this research study is to present the critical success factors (CSFs) for data governance (DG). This paper reports on a single case study where data are gathered through semi-structured interviews following the CSF approach and analyzed by applying open, axial, and selective coding techniques. The findings are presented as seven CSFs, which are ranked in order of importance. Furthermore, we highlight the need to better understand the relationships (interconnectedness) between the CSFs.

Previous research has not focused sufficiently on the activities that are required to introduce an effective data governance programme. This is coupled with the fact that the strategic importance of data governance is growing. As result, this research study aims to identify the critical success factors (CSF) for data governance and the associated recommended actions that would enable organisations to introduce an effective data governance programme. This paper reports on a single case study in a large telecommunications service provider in Saudi Arabia. The data are (1) gathered through semi-structured interviews that follow the CSF approach and (2) analysed by applying open, axial, and selective coding techniques. The findings of this research are presented as nine CSFs, which are ranked in order of importance, and include actions recommended for each CSF. Based on our case analysis, having 'business-driven data integration strategies' was the most important factor for data governance.

The thesis Framing of Me Too Campaign in Selected Czech Media examines how selected Czech newspapers and magazines represented the Me Too movement. This movement is considered to be an example of hashtag activism which relates to sexual harassment and gender based violence. This thesis draws both from theoretical and analytical concept of media framing. Using qualitative analysis based on grounded theory approach - more specifically open and axial coding - the research aims at identification and description of news frames that appears in analysed articles. The sample is composed of selected articles published at newspapers and magazines, including Hospodářské noviny Lidové noviny, Právo, Blesk, Reflex, Blesk pro ženy and Respekt. axial coding stage revealed ten news frames which were integrated into three major categories: (1) Social consequences of the Me Too movement (2) Me Too in the context of Czech Republic and (3) Film festivals (and awards) in the light of the Me Too movement.

Barriers, challenges, conflicts, and facilitators in environmental decision-making: A case of An'Yang Stream restoration

In this article, we discuss the An'Yang Stream restoration case in South Korea from the time frame of 1999-2015. This restoration has been judged as a successful stream management endeavour led by public-private partnership governance. However, this study found that integration of all interests was not properly achieved. The An'Yang Stream restoration process was designed by stakeholders who valued scientific information rather than non-scientific factors such as culture, social learning (education), social integrity, and waterfront beautification based on a participatory process. The An'Yang Stream restoration project is important because it is one of the main streams in the metropolitan Seoul and serves as the focal point for the nation culturally, politically, and economically. The researchers conducted semistructured interviews with the 33 key stakeholders who actively participated in the stream restoration project. The axial coding based on Grounded Theory provided a clear way of adopting various codes and coding processes, which reflect the interview transcripts of the specific social phenomenon and power dynamics. This research describes the pros and cons of the An'Yang Stream restoration governance process and participatory decision-making by applying a qualitative axial coding analysis. Also, this research addresses the contribution of media and professional conflict resolution for potentially participatory governance building.

New Dynamic of China National Governance since the 18th National Congress-Based on the Inspecting Spots of the Politburo's Standing Committee

Based on the axial coding from the inspecting spots and themes of the members of the Political Bureau in 2013-2016, this article is intended to explore the recent trends of national governance after 18th CPC National Congress. The Chinese politburo's standing committee members have been to all provinces in China, however, the visiting spots and themes are unbalanced. In order to achieve governance objectives, they have to think about the national policy and the particularity of each province. All the politburo's standing committee members have been paid more attention on decentralization and innovation. As we can see, the decentralization of authority between government and market has constituted strategic consensus. We found that the reform and innovation are the main policy and dynamic. The power of Chinese government and the activity of market have formed. They are willing to make a difference. Politburo's standing committee members are the third energy of Chinese reform or economy. Based on inspections of all the provinces of China, they can change any policy if they think it is not appropriate for the local development.

Classroom research in religious education: The potential of grounded theory

Grounded theory is one of the most common qualitative research strategies in social sciences. Currently, many applications of this theory are being developed for religious education. In the article it is argued that grounded theory deserves special attention for classroom research in religious education. For this reason, the basic features (fundamental openness and concurrence of data collection and analysis;constant comparison and asking analytical questions) as well as the coding strategies (open, axial, and selective) of grounded theory will be explained and concretised. An analysis of one example sequence demonstrates how grounded theory may be used to emphasise the communicative and substantive aspects (as well as the interaction between the two) of classroom interaction, therefore lending itself to data analysis. In this manner, grounded theory can also be used for an intensive analysis of a student's learning process, as the authors have done in one student profile analysis, as well as for a comparative analysis of teaching practice in an actual class or even a variety of classes.

An Emergent Model of End-users' Acceptance of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems: A Grounded Theory Approach

The success of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation depends, to a large extent, on end-users' acceptance of ERP systems, which in turn affects the intensity and nature of system use. To understand the phenomenon underlying end-users' acceptance of ERP systems, the authors conducted a grounded theory research in a large institution that implemented an ERP system. Through systematic coding and content analysis, the authors inductively derived a theoretical model to explain end-users' acceptance of ERP systems. Three categories-beliefs about the system, changes in job scope, and social influence - emerged from the data as direct antecedents of user acceptance. The data also suggest that "beliefs about the system" mediates the influence of "training and support" and "personal characteristics" on user acceptance, whereas "personal characteristics" moderate the influence of "changes in job scope" on user acceptance. The theoretical model that emerged from this qualitative study extends existing models of user acceptance by providing a more complete understanding of end-users' acceptance of ERP systems.
