CONSTRAINED MINIMUM-TIME PATH PLANNING FOR RObOT MANIPULATORS VIA VIRTUAL KNOTS OF THE CUbIC b-spline functions

The b-spline functions are used to generate the constrained minimum-time path for a robot manipulator. The interpolated path via b-spline functions is determined via a unique set of virtual knots so that the robot path can pass every intermediate knot and satisfy the boundary conditions. The local control property of the b-spline functions can also be utilized to simplify the involved computational complexities. The flexible polyhedron search algorithm is used to generate the near minimum-time path with velocity, acceleration, and jerk constraints on every intermediate point. This approach can simplify the formulation and procedures for generating the near minimum-time cubic b-spline path. The use of this method to generate the constrained minimum-time joint trajectories for a PUMA 560 robot is discussed as an example.

Entropy-based estimation of bubble size distributions in froth flotation using b-spline functions

bubble size distribution is an important feature in froth flotation processes and the b-spline estimation is a common way to approximate the bubble size distribution by using the least square algorithm. However, it is difficult to determine the number of basis functions of b-spline. In this study, the analysis based on the unbiased cross entropy is proposed to evaluate the estimated models. Experimental results have shown the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2016

The Frequency Monitoring Network (FNET) has provided a low-cost and easy way to collect wide-area frequencies with high dynamic accuracy in North American power grids. In practice, frequency measurements collected by the Frequency Disturbance Recorders (FDRs) contain outliers such as missing segments or spikes due to hardware and/or network failure, and 1-D median filtering is commonly used to eliminate these outliers. However, this filtering removes the spikes as well as the detailed information of frequency variation, and is incapable of replacing the missing data. In this paper, robust statistics is incorporated with b-spline function to handle outliers in the FDR raw data. The spikes are first identified by a preset threshold of robust statistics, then the spikes and the missing data are replaced using b-spline smoothing, which reconstructs the FDR data by a linear combination of a family of b-spline basis functions defined by the de boor recurrent formula. Roughness of the constructed curves is controlled to avoid the over-fitting problem of this technique. The proposed method is only used for outliers and keeps the rest of the FDR raw data intact. Test examples validate this method, and its application may be easily extended to time series data in other fields.

The purpose of this paper is to simplify the treatment of the major issues of Model Predictive Control (MPC): stability, feasibility and complexity of the on line optimization procedure. To this purpose a new MPC policy is developed using a two Degrees of Freedom (2DoF) control scheme where the output r(k) of the feedforward Input Estimator (IE) is used as input forcing the closed-loop system Σ_f. This latter is the feedback connection of an LTI plant Σ_p with an LTI feedback controller Σ_g. The task of Σ_g is to guarantee the stability of Σ_f, as well as the fulfillment of hard constraints on some physical variables for any input r(k) satisfying an "a priori" determined admissibility condition. The input r(k) is computed by the feedforward IE through the on-line minimization of a suitably definite finite-horizon quadratic cost functional and is applied to σ_F according to the usual receding horizon strategy. To simplify the constrained optimization problem, r(k) is assumed to be given by a b-spline function. This greatly decreases the number of decision variables of the on-line optimization procedure. It is shown that stability and recursive feasibility of the adopted MPC strategy are guaranteed in advance, regardless the chosen prediction horizon.

Lyapunov-based controller design for bounded dynamic stochastic distribution control

Following recent development in the modelling and control of the output probability density function of dynamic stochastic systems, a new approach for the controller design is presented using square root approximation, where a set of b-spline functions are used to approximate the square root of the measured output probability density function to guarantee its positiveness. a performance function is defined which measures the tracking error of the output probability density function with respect to a given distribution. Instead of finding an optimal control which minimises this performance function and then analysing the stability of the closed-loop system, the new approach directly uses the performance function as a Lyapunov function to design the required controller. As a result, the controller obtained not only guarantees the decreasing of the performance function with respect to time, but also stabilises the closed-loop system, realising an asymptotically tracking performance of the output probability density function with respect to its target distribution. The algorithm described has been tested on a simulated example and desired results have been achieved.

Reagent Predictive Control Using Joint Froth Image Feature for Antimony Flotation Process

The prerequisite for achieving automatic control and optimal operation in flotation process is to extract distinctive froth image features. With the fluctuation of flotation conditions, the morphological features of surface bubbles will change. It is not reliable to impose bubble size distribution as the decisive character to represent the complex flotation conditions. Therefore, a novel joint froth image feature was proposed via analysing bubble size and shape simultaneously. To consist with the observation process of operators in plant and overcome the deficiency of bubble samples, splicing froth images from sequential frames were segmented to obtain the joint distribution and a nonparametric estimation using b-spline functions was introduced to depict the shape of distribution. Then a multi-output least square support vector regressor (MLS-SVR) was implemented to construct the relationship between the weights of the b-spline functions and the reagent dosage. Finally, a joint feature based reagent predictive controller was constructed to validate the proposed method. Actual industrial data experiment results have shown its effectiveness and feasibility. © 2018

The new method of feature extraction based on nonlinear partial orthogonal analysis with b-spline function for signal of vibrational sensors is proposed in the paper, Firstly, the nonlinear signal is mapped into linear space;then, the signal is analyzed in the linear space;finally, a set of eigenvalue vectors are obtained with nonlinear partial orthogonal analysis. The vectors reflect a pattern of the signal steadily. The experiment for vibrational signals of normal and abnormal rolling bearings shows that the pattern of every signal is extracted with the method steadily and effectively.
