Using bees algorithm and Artificial Neural Network to Forecast World Carbon Dioxide Emission

In this study, an integrated multi-layer perceptron neural network and bees algorithm is presented for analyzing world CO2 emissions. For this purpose, the following steps are done: STEP 1: In the first step, the bees algorithm is applied in order to determine the world's fossil fuels and primary energy demand equations based on socio-economic indicators. The world's population, gross domestic product, oil trade movement, and natural gas trade movement are used as socio-economic indicators in this study. The following scenarios are designed for forecasting each socio-economic indicator in a future time domain: Scenario I: For each socio-economic indicator, several polynomial trend lines are fitted to the observed data and the best fitted polynomial (highest correlation coefficient (R-2) value) for each socio-economic indicator is used for future forecasting. Scenario II: For each socio-economic indicator, several neural networks are trained and the best trained network for each socio-economic indicator is used for future forecasting. STEP 2: In the second step, world CO2 emission is projected based on the oil, natural gas, coal, and primary energy consumption using bees algorithm. The related data from 1980 to 2006 are used, partly for installing the models (1980-1999) and partly for testing the models (2000-2006). World CO2 emission is forecasted up to year 2040.

Multiple colony bees algorithm for continuous spaces

This paper represent a new multiple colony bees algorithm (MCBA) for functional optimization. The MCBA simulates the behaviours of honey bees in their own hive and realizes a communication strategy between the bees living in different hives. However, there is not much information about such a communication strategy between different hives of honey bees. Since information sharing is an essential issue from the optimization point of view, this relevant communication strategy has been based on the similarity between the waggle dance behaviours of real honey bees and the pheromone laying and following behaviours of ants. By the way the MCBA uses the positive feedback mechanism as distinct from the basic bees algorithm and other versions of the bee swarm optimization algorithms. The performance of the proposed MCBA is tested on a set of well-known test functions through a set of computational study, which contains comparison to some other standard meta-heuristics, cooperative approaches and ant-related approaches. The present study modifies the structural design of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger by considering two key parameters such as the maximization of the overall heat transfer coefficient and minimization of the total pressure drop. Five geometric design variables which include the tube inside diameter, tube outside diameter, pitch size, baffle spacing, and the tube length are investigated for optimization. The governing equations for design and optimization of the shell and-tube heat exchanger are evaluated and the optimum design parameters are obtained by bees algorithm. The selection of the important design parameters to achieve the proper design is evaluated by fixing each of these parameters, while the other the design parameters are selected as variable to optimize the effectiveness. Compared with the original shell-and-tube heat exchanger, the overall heat transfer coefficient is increased by 22.78% with the minimum increase in the total pressure drop by 1.8%.

Robotic disassembly re-planning using a two-pointer detection strategy and a super-fast bees algorithm

Automated disassembly of End-of-Life (EoL) products can be difficult to implement due to uncertainties in their conditions. An automatic re-planning function is required to enable flexible adjustments of disassembly plans and thus increase disassembly efficiency. The re-planning function is able to detect subassemblies and separable components, and adjust disassembly sequences and directions when components interlock and are irremovable. This paper presents a two-pointer detection strategy to find detachable subassemblies very quickly. A summation operator and a list with two pointers are used to check the interferences between components in a minimum number of steps. Then, a ternary bees algorithm is proposed to identify new disassembly sequences and directions. The algorithm combines the merits of a greedy search and meta-heuristic techniques by using only three collaborative potential solutions and three concurrent operations. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to perform a rapid subassembly detection and sequence optimisation for a robotic disassembly task, thus allowing real-time re-planning.

Hybrid intelligent technique for automatic communication signals recognition using bees algorithm and MLP neural networks based on the efficient features

Automatic communication signal recognition plays an important role for many novel computer and communication technologies. Most of the proposed techniques can only identify a few kinds of digital signal and/or low order of them. They usually require high levels of signal to noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we investigate twofold. First, we propose an efficient system that uses a combination set of spectral characteristics and higher order moments up to eighth and higher order cumulants up to eighth as the effective features. As the classifier we used a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network. In this stage we investigate different learning algorithms of MLP neural networks that some of them, such as quick prop (QP) learning algorithm, extended delta-bar-delta (EDBD), super self adaptive back propagation (SuperSAB) and conjugate gradient (CG) are proposed for the first time in the area of communication signals recognition. Experimental results show that proposed system discriminates a lot of digital communication signals with high accuracy even at very low SNRs. But a lot of features are used for this recognition. Then at the second fold, in order to reduce the complexity of the recognizer, we have proposed a novel hybrid intelligent technique. In this technique we have optimized the classifier design by bees algorithm (BA) for selection of the best features that are fed to the classifier. Simulation results show that the proposed technique has very high recognition accuracy with seven features selected by BA. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

BFO: a hybrid bees algorithm for the multi-level capacitated lot-sizing problem

This paper presents a hybrid heuristic based on the bees algorithm combined with the fix-and-optimize heuristic to solve the multi-level capacitated lot-sizing problem. The bees algorithm can be used as a new method to determine the sequence in which to apply the partition in the fix-and-optimize approach. This new manner of choosing the partition adds diversity to the solution pool and yields different local optima solutions after some iterations. The bees-and-fix-and-optimize (BFO) algorithm attempts to avoid these local optima by performing random search in accordance with the concept of bees algorithm. The BFO has yielded good results for instances from the literature and, in most cases, the results are superior to the best results provided by approaches presented in recent literature. They show that this construction concept is advantageous and illustrate the efficiency of hybrid methods composed of matheuristics and metaheuristics. Furthermore, the BFO approach is a general-purpose heuristic that can be applied to solve other types of production planning problems.

Total Energy Demand Estimation in Iran Using bees algorithm

Many studies are performed by researchers to estimate energy demand but the bees algorithm (BA) technique has never been used for such a study. This paper presents application of the BA technique to estimate total energy demand in Iran, based on socioeconomic indicators. The BA demand estimation models (BA-DEM) are first developed in two forms (exponential and linear) in order to estimate energy demand based on population, gross domestic product, import and export data. Then, two scenarios are designed for forecasting each socioeconomic indicator in the years 2006-2030. Finally, these two scenarios are used to forecast energy demand up to year 2030 using demand estimation models. Energy consumption in Iran from 1981-2005 is considered as the case of this study. The available data is partly used for finding the optimal, or near optimal, values of the weighting parameters (1981-1999) and partly for testing the models (2000-2005). In order to show the accuracy of the BA, obtained results of BA-DEM models are compared with particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm demand estimation models which are developed for the same problem.

New Technique for Estimating the Monthly Average Daily Global Solar Radiation Using bees algorithm and Empirical Equations

Measurement of solar radiance demands expensive devices to be used. Alternatively, estimator models are used instead. In this article, a new method based on the empirical equations is introduced to estimate the monthly average daily global solar radiation (GSR) on a horizontal surface. The proposed method uses bees algorithm as a heuristic and population-based search technique. The best coefficients of linear and nonlinear empirical models and GSR are calculated for seven different climate regions of Iran using proposed algorithm written in MATLAB software. The results of the proposed method are compared with other techniques. The result shows that the proposed method is more accurate in estimating the monthly average daily GSR. Novel bees algorithm: Stochastic self-adaptive neighborhood

Several algorithms inspired in recent years by the swarm behavior of honeybees have been developed for a variety of practical applications. The bees algorithm (BA) is one of these swarm-based algorithms that imitate the intelligent behaviors of honeybees. The present paper proposes a Novel bees algorithm (NBA) that uses a stochastic self-adaptive neighborhood (ssngh) search to improve the original BA. The ssngh automatically and dynamically reflects swarm convergence conditions and frees its settings. Additionally, this paper tests two additional designs for bee relocation as well as the effect on algorithm performance of using fewer recruited bees. Experimental results are compared using 23 benchmark functions. Results demonstrate that the proposed NBA not only frees the parameter settings of the neighborhood ranges of BA but also significantly improves upon the convergence performance of the original BA. Additionally, experimental results indicate that the NBA outperforms the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm on 12 benchmark functions, while the ABC outperforms the NBA on only 8 benchmark functions. Virtual Reconfiguration Method of Robotic Mixed-Model Assembly Line Using bees algorithm Based on Digital Twin

As an important part of intelligent manufacturing, robotic mixed-model assembly line needs to cost-effectively adjust its configuration to meet the dynamical manufacturing requirements. However, the existing reconfiguration method always considers the configurations of equipment in cyber space and ignores the interconnections between the physical and cyber spaces. Digital twin provides alternative ways to realize the interconnections between the physical and cyber spaces. In this paper, digital twin model of robotic mixed-model assembly line and the interconnections between physical and cyber spaces are realized by means of digital twin model. In addition, the mathematical model for minimizing the reconfiguration cost and load balancing is built, then the virtual reconfiguration problem is proposed. Afterwards, adaptive neighborhood search bees algorithm, of which the adaptive neighborhood search strategy is included, is utilized to solve the proposed problem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified and the results show adaptive neighborhood search bees algorithm generates better solutions compared with the other optimization algorithms.
