bigdata has become a significant research area due to the birth of enormous data generated from various sources like social media, internet of things and multimedia applications. bigdata has played critical role in many decision makings and forecasting domains such as recommendation systems, business analysis, healthcare, web display advertising, clinicians, transportation, fraud detection and tourism marketing. The rapid development of various bigdata tools such as Hadoop, Storm, Spark, Flink, Kafka and Pig in research and industrial communities has allowed the huge number of data to be distributed, communicated and processed. bigdata applications use big data analytics techniques to efficiently analyze large amounts of data. However, choosing the suitable bigdata tools based on batch and stream data processing and analyticstechniques for development a bigdata system are difficult due to the challenges in processing and applying bigdata. Practitioners and researchers who are developing bigdata systems have inadequate information about the current technology and requirement concerning the bigdata platform. Hence, the strengths and weaknesses of bigdata technologies and effective solutions for bigdata challenges are needed to be discussed. Hence, due to that, this paper presents a review of the literature that analyzes the use of bigdata tools and big data analytics techniques in areas like health and medical care, social networking and internet, government and public sector, natural resource management, economic and business sector. The goals of this paper are to (1) understand the trend of bigdata-related research and current frames of bigdata technologies;(2) identify trends in the use or research of bigdata tools based on batch and stream processing and big data analytics techniques;(3) assist and provide new researchers and practitioners to place new research activity in this domain appropriately. Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), an infectious disease that spreads when people live in close proximity has greatly impacted healthcare systems worldwide. The pandemic has so disrupted human life economically and socially that the scientific community has been impelled to devise a solution that assists in the diagnosis, prevention and outbreak prediction of COVID-19. This has generated an enormous quantum of unstructured data that cannot be processed by traditional methods. To alleviate COVID-19 threat and to process these unstructured data, bigdataanalytics can be used. The main objective of this paper is to present a multidimensional survey on open source datasets, techniques and tools in bigdata to fight COVID-19. To this end, state-of-the-art articles have been analyzed, qualitatively and quantitatively, to put together a body of work in the prediction of COVID-19. The findings of this review show that machine learning classification algorithms in bigdataanalytics helps design a predictive model for COVID-19 using the open source datasets. This survey may serve as a starting point to enhance the research in COVID-19.
